Such Anger In Los Angeles

Quite the show in Los Angeles last night between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. And you're not going to believe this, but Zach Greinke was involved in another brawl. It started with Greinke plunking Cody Ross. Ian Kennedy then plunked Puig in the nose. Greinke plunked Montero. Kennedy plunked Greinke and that's when all hell broke loose and Vin Scully was there to narrate the whole thing.



A few observations:
- I like how Giants heroes of the 2010 NLCS (Cody Ross and Juan Uribe) pushing and shoving each other.
- Mark McGwire wanting to fight Kirk Gibson and Matt Williams. That would be one hell of a wrestling match.
- Don Mattingly shoving Alan Trammell to the ground.
- Dodgers relievers coming out of the bullpen and delivering haymakers and trying to push one of the Diamondback coaches over the dugout rail.
- And finally Greinke morphing into someone who had to take time off for anxiety into a wrestling heel. And he does have a face that is very punchable.

Donnie Baseball Trying To Do The MLB Network A Favor

I know a lot of people don't pay attention to baseball this time of the year. Colleges are playing bowl games, the NFL is winding up their season, the NHL & NBA is in full swing. No one pays attention to baseball unless their team makes a trade or signs a player.

Well I've found a reason to pay attention to baseball. During the winter meetings in Nashville this week the MLB Network has been all over these meetings with live shows. Unfortunately that also means Chris Rose and ultimate Broheam Kevin Millar are also at the winter meetings spewing "Got Heem's" and nonsense. Thankfully though Don Mattingly came to the rescue and tried to get these idiots fired by saying this.



Atta boy Mattingly. Not only have you given the Giants victories (walking Pagan to get to Scutaro last year and making two trips to the mound with Broxton pitching meaning he had to pull Broxton in favor of stone cold George Sherrill) but now you're trying to get Rose and Millar fired and do a favor for the MLB Network. You're my favorite Yankees/Dodgers crossover ever. /pukes

McCourt Sells Dodgers, Sticks Around Just Enough To Torture Dodger Fans

Technically the Dodgers were sold in auction for $2.15 billion to a group lead by Magic Johnson (yes, that Magic Johnson), Peter Guber, and Mark Walter. Now obviously this group overpaid for the Dodgers, but once again they were sold in auction. Have ever seen the animals biding at an auction? It's a complete money-ego trip where someone will always grossly overpay for the prize. Luckily for the new Dodgers owners, the TV rights even out the overpay.

The real kicker though in this deal is that Frank McCourt isn't going anywhere. Yes, Frank McCourt still owns the parking lots around Dodger Stadium and Magic Johnson's investor group is now his partner. Just the thought of Frank McCourt owning the parking lots makes me giddy like a school boy. Then I remembered that the owner of the Dodgers before McCourt who Dodgers fans also despised, News Corp, airs Dodger games on their network and I fell of my couch in glee. Just tremendous!

Let's get back to McCourt for a second. Folks do you want to know to become a billionaire? Follow these easy steps called the McCourt plan:
1. Buy the Dodgers through debt.
2. Spend 8 years stealing money from the team's coffers to finance your own lifestyle.
3. Set up about 20 subsidiaries, then loot them.
4. Get into an ugly divorce with your wife
5. Sell the team on auction.
6. Sell the team for $2 Billion dollars
7. Pay off all the debt you have.
8. POCKET $1BILLION DOLLARS! 

Follow those steps and you'll become a billionaire. According to Forbes if this sell holds up, McCourt will become the most financially successful owner in baseball history. Unbelievable. And with McCourt holding onto the parking lots, he will continue to haunt Dodger fans. This could not have happened to a better fanbase. 

This is Becoming Sad

Anything bad that happens to the Dodgers makes me feel good. It's a part of being a Giants fan. The last four years have been spectacular for me. The Dodgers played in two straight NLCS only to be beaten by the Phillies twice. Then the Giants faced the Phillies in the NLCS the very next year, beat them, and won the world series while the Dodgers keep free falling into the abyss.

Then the McCourt divorce fell into our laps. Giants fans got to sit back and enjoy two phony's from Boston bleed the Dodgers dry of money to fund their own lifestyle while the baseball team fell apart. It was glorious.

Recently though the Dodgers are just pathetic. The fans despise the McCourts so much they completely quit going to Dodger Stadium rendering the old ballpark into Joe Robbie Stadium Sun Life Stadium. And now the ultimate indignity for the once proud franchise, bankruptcy protection.

"A mere three days before the payroll comes due — payroll that Frank McCourt can’t meet — the Dodgers have filed for bankruptcy, reports Richard Sandomir. With that, the legal game begins."

I used to enjoy the downfall of the Dodgers, but now this is just becoming sad. Damn you Frank McCourt for not allowing me to enjoy this! Hardball Talk has more on this could mean for the Dodgers and McCourt.

"Obviously the situation is fluid, and more details will stream in as the morning and day progresses, but for the time being, this could buy McCourt some time. Why? because a bankruptcy filing puts a halt on all legal action with respect to the bankruptcy estate (i.e. the Dodgers).  McCourt will certainly argue that this will prevent a takeover from Major League Baseball, though the court may decide differently when it gets a chance to weigh in, likely in the next few days."

Just sell the team Frank. You're broke. Your scheme has been figured out and nobody is feeling sorry for you anymore. Everything has been destroyed by your Tsunami effect. Your marriage, the Dodgers, Vin Scully's soul, and most importantly my hatred for the Dodgers. I hate that you made it for I actually feel sorry for the Dodgers and their fans. So do baseball and the Dodgers a favor and go back to selling parking lots in Boston.

Ouch! Matt Holliday better find a wig and hope no one is in the St. Louis airport tonight to greet the Cardinals as they come home. Holliday dropped a two-out line drive in the ninth inning that lead to the Dodgers tieing the game. Oh that line drive happened to hit Holliday dead square in the junk. Then Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin pulled a Brad Lidge and gave up the game-winning hit with the bases loaded to Mark Loretta to give the Dodgers the 3-2 victory and a 2-0 lead in the series.

I'm waiting for someone to post the video of that line drive hitting Holliday in the junk. Once someone posts it, I will update this thread.

Game 1, Twins vs. Yankees:
The Phillies took game 1 against the Rockies, 5-1. Cliff Lee pitched a complete game, only giving up one run in the ninth inning. The Twins/Yankees game will start in about a half an hour.

2-0 Twins in the 3rd inning. C.C. Sabathia gave up three straight two out hits that lead to the Twins scoring a run. Then Jorge Posada gave up a passed ball which allowed Joe Mauer to score. Could the Yankees already be applying their hands around their throats?

"Minnesota scores first...and they score second, and lead by two" -Chip (AL)

Derek Jeter blasted a 2-run shot off of Duesning in the bottom of the 3rd to even the game at 2.

6-2 Yankees after 5. The latest 2 came from a deep 2-run shot by Hideki Matsui. Duensing is out of the game already and after starting out good, it appears as if the Twins have slowed down a bit.

A-Rod just singled in Derek Jeter to make the score 7-2 in the seventh inning. A-Rod actually has two RBI's in the game.

Mercifully it's over in the Bronx. The Yankees won 7-2 and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Hopefully we can get more exciting games in this series.

Game 1, Cardinals @ Dodgers:
Even though Randy Wolf loaded the bases in the first inning, he was able to get out of the inning by only allowing one run. Yadier Molina took after his big brother Bengie and grounded into a double play. 1-0 Cardinals in the first inning.

A Matt Kemp 2-run home run gives the Dodgers the 2-1 lead. Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter is lucky he only gave up two runs in that inning. The Dodgers were pounding every pitch they saw in that inning.

The Dodgers scored on a horrible throwing error by Mark De Rosa. The Dodgers are currently leading 3-1 in the fourth inning.

This game is still in the 5th inning and it's almost nine o'clock on the West Coast. I feel sorry for the East Coast baseball fans. I'm sure they don't want to stay up this late to watch a baseball game on a weeknight.

Carpenter somehow escapes another inning, but he did give up another run. 4-2 Dodgers going into the sixth inning.

After six innings, the Dodgers lead 5-2. Russell Martin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

After eight innings, the Dodgers still lead it 5-2.

Broxton strikes out Ankiel and this game's finally over! 5-3 Dodgers over the Cards.

Casey Blake Better Watch Out!

The Los Angeles Dodgers-San Francisco Giants rivalry is one of the most intense rivalries in all of sports. I remember a couple of years ago, when a Giants fan stabbed and killed a Dodgers fan outside of AT&T Park. Yeah, it's that intense.

Well Dodgers 3rd baseman Casey Blake has added some fuel to the fire. Via LA Times:

San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson said he wouldn't forget that Casey Blake mocked the cross-armed gesture he makes after every save as a tribute to his faith and deceased father.

Blake was shown on television cameras Sunday appearing to mimic Wilson's signature pose at the end of the 12th inning.

Stay classy, Casey.


Look Wilson doesn't go Frankie Rodriquez or Joba Chamberlain with his post-game celebration. He always turns away from home plate and simply crosses his arms and points to the sky. There is nothing about Wilson's celebration that should be mocked or seen as disrespect towards the opposition.


When asked about if this incident would intensify the rivalry, Wilson had this to say.

"It could be a catalyst if you want to look at it that way," he said. "There's always something to fuel the fire. You're always looking for some excuse to get riled up."

I can't wait for these teams to meet up in August. Also I want to see either Lincecum or The Big Unit drill Manny, Blake, or whoever else when they meet up again.
