Vick Can Leave Prison

Michael Vick has been approved to leave prison for home confinement.

He was going to a halfway house, but there was no more room so he will serve the rest of his prison time at his own house. He will where an electric monitoring devise and will not be allowed to leave his house unless it's approved by his probation officer.

The speculation will really start to fly now Vick will be released from prison. There has already been talks about the 49ers being interested in Vick. But there should be other teams also.

The real dark horse is the Detroit Lions. Detroit has the number one overall draft pick this year and there really isn't a strong enough quarterback to take with that pick. Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez are good quarterbacks, but they are not worthy of the number one choice.

Detroit would be smart to trade for Vick and take an offensive lineman or a defensive lineman with that pick. Then they can secure their line and have a veteran quarterback behind it.

Also Detroit would be a better fit for Vick. San Fransisco people would go crazy if Vick showed up there. There is just too many dog-loving liberals there who don't want to see Vick anywhere near their town. And trust me, they don't care he served a 23-month prison sentence.

This should be an interesting case to look at during the NFL off season.

Vick to San Fransisco?

No the headline isn't a joke. The 49ers are considering trading for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Micheal Vick.

“I’m not going to say I’m open or closed,” Singletary said after the 49ers’ state-of-the-franchise event for season-ticket holders. “I’d say it has to be something (general manager) Scot (McCloughan) and I talk about and feel good about one way or the other. But we have not talked about it at this point in great detail. We’re trying to focus on what we have.”

The 49ers still have two quarterbacks on their roster. Shawn Hill and Alex Smith are expected to battle for the quarterback spot. The 49ers have to reduce Smith's huge salary that he will be receiving in 2009.

“I think right now we really need to look at the two guys we have,” Singletary added. “If everything works out with Alex and he’s back, we need to look at that and go as far as we can go with that. The whole Michael Vick thing, we have to sit down and talk about that. But for right now, we have enough on our plates.”

There has also been talks of bringing back former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia.

“You’re always interested in a guy who can win football games and Garcia is that kind of guy,” Singletary said. “But I think the most important thing is to look at what makes sense for us. When I look at Shaun Hill, I think he did a great job last year.

I am not too crazy about either Vick or Garcia. Garcia is going to be 39 at the start of the season and injuries have plague his career recently. Vick is someone I was never crazy about when he was in Atlanta. Put the dog charges away and look at Vick's on-field performance.

His QB rating is 75.7 and he has thrown 52 interceptions to only 71 touchdowns. Also his aggressive running style can get him into trouble. He broke his leg once and missed the first 11 games of the 2003.

While Shawn Hill isn't the sexiest quarterback around he is very efficient. He won't throw a lot of interceptions and he is proven winner when the game is on the line. During the St. Louis game this year Hill was lousy. He looked terrible for the 1st three quarters of the game and the 49ers were down 17-3. Hill lead a comeback in the 4th quarter and the 49ers won the game.

The guy is a winner. I mean come on, he lead Maryland to the Orange Bowl. If the 49ers had him in for the entire season they probably could have made the playoffs. Or at least they wouldn't have lost the Philadelphia or New England games.

While I am for all the options I wouldn't give up on Hill. Former coach Mike Nolan gave up on Hill and went with J.T. O'Sullivan. And now Nolan is taking orders from a 32-year old kid in Denver. If Mike Singletary wants to be a head coach for a long time with San Fransisco, he should stick to Hill.

Atlanta's Love Affair

With the Atlanta Falcons inching ever closer to a playoff spot, both ESPN and CBS sports columnist Mike Freeman looked at why Atlanta fans still love Mike Vick.

Let's be honest, we love a player that looks like us. 55% of Atlanta is black. They are rooting for Vick because he looks like them.

They don't care that he killed dogs, or allegedly gave a women an STD. They care about him because he was a black quarterback playing in a largely black city.

Here is the funny part, Vick never cared about them. Whenever he had free time, he never spent it in Atlanta. Instead he took off for Virginia. Instead of helping his team win, he would make a back breaking decision that would put Atlanta in the hole.

Vick never loved Atlanta fans, as much as they loved him. They bought his jersey's, defended him when it was obvious he was guilty of electrocuting Lassie. If Vick loved the Atlanta fans he would have never ran afoul of the law. He left the Falcons high and dry, and he left the fans high and dry. He never cared.

This doesn't matter to them though. He is their hero, and no one can replace him. Matt Ryan could win 5 Super Bowls, but he will never be Vick.

They have only one hero, and his name is Michael Vick.
