Sorry folks, but today is Tiger Woods day. I've never really posted anything about Tiger Woods and his multiple affairs on this blog because that is tabloid fodder and I try to stay away from that type of stuff. But because this is huge news that Tiger Woods is finally speaking after months of disappearance I thought I should give you my instant reaction from his press conference.
- People on Twitter were surprised at how robotic Woods was when speaking. My question is, where have these people been? Woods has always been very robotic when talking to the press. Hell that has been a running joke on the Jim Rome Show for at least five years that Tiger is a robot. So that part of the speech never surprised.
- I was also not surprised that Tiger blamed the media about reports that Elin attacked him and that they should stay out of his family business. It was also not surprising that Tiger was very angry and defiant during this part of the speech.
- I am though surprised that people are mad that Tiger used notes for this speech. Why are you surprised? The President of the United States takes his teleprompter everywhere. Tiger isn't a public speaker. Leave this part of the speech alone. I thought Tiger did do a good job at just looking at his notes and then looking forward while speaking.
- If you believe Tiger wrote that speech himself, then your a fool. Once again, the President of the United States never writes his speech himself and neither did Tiger. Sorry, but I'm not believing that Tiger wrote that speech himself.
- I was happy to see Tiger apologize to his family and wife for his behavior.
"Every one of you has good reason to be critical of me," Woods said to the gathering of his personal friends -- but few reporters -- in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. "I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in. I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife, Elin, and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.
"Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss. However, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us."
Once again I'm not surprised that Tiger wants to keep this discussion to himself and his wife. And really, would you want to discuss your faults in front of millions of people?
- I was definitely surprised that Tiger mentioned that he was taught to be a Buddhist while he was younger and that he fell out of the faith and now has returned. For some reason I can't see a person like Tiger following Buddhism. "I was raised a Buddhist and I actively practiced my faith in childhood before I drifted away in recent years." Maybe he should have never drifted away from Buddhism?
- Tiger did mention that he is seeking help for an addiction, but did not clarify what he is seeking help for. It's been speculated that he was seeking help for Sex Addiction. Tiger did say he was going back for "more treatment and more therapy" ahead.
- Tiger did say he was going to return to play golf, but did not specifically say when he would return. "I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don't know when that day will be. I don't rule out that it will be this year." - At the end of the speech, Tiger hugged his mother and every other person in the room. Weird ending to a weird episode.
In the end he was heavily coached and scripted so the speech felt very rigid and business like, instead of a heart felt apology. In my own opinion, I never thought Tiger owed fans/sponsors/writers an public apology, but if your going to apologize please sound sorry and sincere. Of course Woods lackey's in the press Mike Tirico and Rick Reilly thought that his speech was "heartfelt." I respectfully disagree. Nothing about that speech felt heartfelt.
You know how I know that didn't feel heartfelt? When anyone apologizes or shows emotion, I become uncomfortable(I admit to being a robot myself when it comes to this.) I never felt uncomfortable during Woods' speech, so I never felt like it was heartfelt.

I was just writing about Ron Artest a couple of weeks ago. I talked about him drinking Hennessy during halftime of his basketball games. The main part of the story though, I talked about Ron-Ron's honesty. He always speaks his mind and never holds anything back.
Dear Tiger, In reading the statements you have made, I can tell you are a stand up guy. Please remember only Jesus is perfect. You made a mistake and you admitted your infidelity. I have made the same mistakes. Before I got married to my wife, I had a baby with another young lady, after I already had two by my girlfriend who is now my wife. We also had another baby which makes three for us and four for me. Two boys and two girls. My wife is a much better wife than I am a husband. We still argue and disagree after being together 16 years. and I still cope with the fact that there are so many women out there and I choose to stay loyal to my wife. I want to be home every night, but with traveling I can’t, and sometimes I might want to go to a bar or club and be one of the fellas. Most of the time I stay in, because I have my kids and wife. I cannot sit here and say the thought to have many women has never crossed my mind. If I were Jesus I could. I have known my wife for 16 years– since I was 14 years old. She was my first. On the way to 2010 we had many ups and downs on the way, mostly my fault. But I really choose to work hard and play ball to support her and my kids. The same reason you are building your legacy. I have been disturbed by this because there are many people who are happy that this bad news has come out. There are a lot of sports announcers and regular reporters who are not perfect in their own homes, yet they want to bring you down. You have done so much for people, the sport of golf, and your family and you gave your wife a life that people can’t even dream of. I thought you were 36 or 37 until I read the news today. A 33-year-old man who has been a model citizen with so much at stake. This is your first publicly known issue since you started your career, compared to my 50 or more publicly known issues and mistakes. You have been the perfect role model for me and my sons for longer than anyone I have known. With the exception of a few legends. As your fan, I can’t wait to see you golf again. And us athletes know how much you personally love your family.

Anyways you have to love Ron Artest posting an open fan letter to Tiger Woods. That Tiger is one of Ron-Ron's mentor's. Only Ron-Ron would do this sort of thing. He's the only athlete to post an open letter to Tiger Woods. Just another reason why I love him so much. He's one of a kind and I hope he never changes.
I have to admit folks. I'm still riding high from Saturday night. First my Sacramento State Hornets scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, including a game-winning touchdown drive, to beat their rival UC Davis. And if that wasn't good enough, my favorite college Cal beat their rival Stanfurd, even though furd was a heavy favorite.
But if all that wasn't good enough, you should have seen the halftime during the furd-Cal game. Tiger Woods was elected to the Stanfurd hall of shame. During his halftime speech during the Big Game, Tiger was booed lustily by the Cal students.
I love it! Tiger was so stunned by the booing by the Cal fans at the game, he actually stopped his speech. Just goes to show, Cal fans will always be better fans than furd fans.

Every year there is the same question in the golf world. Can Tiger Woods win the grand slam of golf?
Last year he predicted the grand slam was "easily within reason." Well it wasn't. Trevor Immelman beat Tiger at the Masters last year. Tiger did win the U.S. Open last year in dramatic fashion, then was out for the rest of the year with a knee injury.
I am not saying that this year Tiger can't win the grand slam of golf, I am just saying it's doubtful. He is facing off against a deep pool of talent this year at the Masters and Tiger is still coming off of an knee injury. But that isn't swaying Tiger.
"Well, I know I can do it — I've done it," Woods said of his four straight majors from 2000-2001. "It's hard for me to sit here and tell you that it can't be done, because I've done it before. It's just a matter of winning the right four at the right time. So hopefully it will start this week for me."
I do not count the Bay Hill win by Tiger. Sean O'Hair choked during the final round, opening up the door for Tiger.
I am not picking Tiger to win the Masters because he hasn't won there since 2004. He has never had a comeback win at the Masters. Last year he was trailing Immelman by 3-strokes. Immelman did everything possible to loose the Masters. Immelman shot a 3-over 75, and still won the event.
If Tiger has the lead in the final round, it's his to win. But if he is down on the leader board, I don't see him winning the event.
I still seeing Woods passing Jack for the most majors ever, but I don't see him winning another grand slam.
