2011 Smack-Off Open Thread

Today is the annual Jim Rome Show Smack-Off. The best callers to his program make one phone call to the show today and whatever is the best call wins the Smack-Off. You can even bet on who will be the best caller today. I would bet money on Mike in Indy. His time has come to win one of these. So it back and relax and enjoy the Smack-Off. Use this thread to discuss the best callers.

Catch up on the history of the Smack-Off here.

Top Ten Callers
10. Joe in the OC
9. Israel
8. Mike in San Diego
7. Mike in Indy
6. Jay Mohr
5. Dan in DC
4.Vic in NoCal
3. Iafrate
2. Stevie in LMU
Winner: Brad in Corona

Impression of the 2011 Smack-Off: I personally thought this was the weakest Smack-Off I've listened to since I started listening to the Smack-Off about 8 years ago. None of the calls really blew me away. Just a weak field and not enough callers.

@RJBO: If you caught the Smack-Off, what was your impression?

Jim Rome Show: Clone Choice Awards Open Thread

Once again a selfish post by myself that only services myself and RJBO. The Jim Rome Show is trying something new to finish off the year. Rome usually hosts two year in review shows. Instead this year he hosted one year in review show (yesterday) and today he is hosting in Clones Choice Awards where the fans get to vote on their favorite moments. I'm interested to listen to this show because yesterday's year in review show left more to be desired. I'm a huge fan of the year in review shows and yesterday's show was rushed by Rome to get through the entire year. So today's show better be great because yesterday's show was rushed and left more to be desired.

Jim Rome Show Year in Review Open Thread

Okay so this is a selfish post. I know only myself and RJBO enjoy listening to the Jim Rome Show. Today though is one of my favorite Jim Rome Shows of the year, his year in review. It's funny to go back and listened to what has happened this year. If you do enjoy the Jim Rome Show, stop by and chat with us. If you don't like his show, keep moving then.

Smack-Off Open Thread

It's finally here! It's the favorite day of the year for Jim Rome Show listeners, the Smack-Off. Once a year, Rome devotes an entire show to the callers. Not only is the show devoted to the callers, but the very best callers. The Smack-Off is an yearly event to see which caller is the best of the best.

This is an open thread for the Smack-Off. Now I know that RJBO and myself are the only listeners of Rome who read this site, I do suggest listening this one day only. You can listen to callers making jerks out of themselves, while they're making fun of other people. It's truly a great listen. So Leave Comments and Don't Be a Troll!

Here's the list of possible callers for today.

Here's the affiliate list.

I'll recap each call as we go along today.

Hour 1
Trapper in Dana P0int-
Brought his usual political smack talk. He sucks and I'd rather not talk about this call.

Dan in DC- Ran some smack at Vic in No Cal. Then he ran some smack at Stevie in Carbone and Rachel in Houston. He then talked about Joe Haden crying because he has to play in Cleveland, then made fun of Mel Kiper for having Clausen over Bradford on his board. Then he made fun of Dan Synder. And of course he makes fun of the Eagles for signing a dog killer. Great call, he should be in the top 5.

Jay Mohr- Ran some smack at the fellow clones, the Eagles, Ben Roethlisberger, and Tiger Woods. "Hey Eagles fans, you better hope Roy Halladay can throw a spiral."

Joe in the OC- Made fun of Derek Fisher and Rachel in Houston. More Roethlisberger smack. Made an old Borat reference. I have never liked Joe's calls and this call didn't change my mind.

Hour 2
Cheryl in Austin- She broke out in a parody. If I could understand what she sang, I would tell you what her parody was about. She was appropriately ran. DNF

Iafrate- Ran some classic smack at Brad in Corona."One thing did come out of Brad in Corona sharing his eHarmony picture..." Then he takes a run at Mike in Indy. Then took a run at Phil Mikelson, "What a shame. Roseanne has let herself go again." Great call and the favorite to win the Smack-Off.

Lisa in Indy- The fascination of the clones actually called for the Smack-Off. She actually took a nice run at the clones who swoon over her.

Greg in Vegas- Greg always lives on the edge of being hung up on and he didn't disappoint with this call. Took a great run at MMA asking why they number each event. Took a run at Ben Roethlisberger and Kordell Stewart at the rumors he's gay. "The regular season became the dunk contest." Of course he's Greg in Vegas and he was ran. DNF

Ray Ray-
Ray Ray, sucks sucks. I've never seen what Jim sees in this guy. Thankfully Jim ran him. DNF

Terrence in Sierra Madre- One of my favorite callers. He's never won the Smack-Off, but hopefully this is his year.

Vinnie Mac- The Hack-Off winner from last week made his call. It was as bad as expected, but he didn't get run.

Hour 3

Vic in NoCal- Vic took a break from flipping burgers at McDonald's to make a call to Rome. For some reason he took a huge run at SF Chronicle columnist Ray Ratto. His monotone voice is so grating to listen to. I don't like his calls at all even though he's from NoCal and I hope he doesn't win.

Doc Mike Ditolla- Doc Mike hasn't called the Jungle in a long time and this call was certainly unexpected. Even though Doc Mike hasn't called in a while, the call was fresh and great. "Way to prove that college is the New High School." Great call. Doc Mike showed the kids how to run smack.

Mike in Indy- Too a run at some of the clones, then turned his attention to Rangers manager Ron Washington. "Don't snort the 1st base line." Mike in Indy has quickly turned into my favorite caller. His call last year was better.

Brad in Corona- The defending Smack-Off champion finally makes his call. Another strong call from a strong Smack-Off. Rome crowns the champion next.

Top 10
10. Trapper in Dana Point
9. Dan in DC
8. Brad in Corona
7. Terrance in Sierra Madre
6. Jay Mohr
5. Iafrate
4. Joe in the OC
3. Doc Mike Ditolla
2. Mike in Indy
2010 Smack-Off Champion: Vic in NoCal

I don't agree at all with the choice of winner. Great Smack-Off nevertheless.

Video of the Day: J-Stew on Blind Date

RJBO will appreciate this next clip. If anyone listens to the Jim Rome Show knows all about Jason Stewart, A.K.A. J-Stew.

For those who don't know J-Stew, he's the phone screener for the Jim Rome Show. Before working on the Rome show, J-Stew was a frequent caller to the show and even participated in the very first Jungle Smack-Off. Needless to say J-Stew flamed out and his legend began. Since then J-Stew has been the butt of constant jokes from the clones, mocking him for his moles, weight, voice, and personality.

J-Stew also is constantly mocked because of his acting appearances. J-Stew has appeared in many TV movies over the years and has recently made a guest appearance on Gary Unmarried. J-Stew's appearance though on the old Blind Date show is what put him over the top as a legend.

Stew was hooked up with a skank from the 909. During the date J-Stew had infamous moments such as telling the lady to wait while he checked to see if he enough money, telling the lady about his showering habits, and showing off his moles in a hot tub. I've been searching for the video of J-Stew's Blind Date appearance for a while. And thanks to Burn Monkey Burn we finally have it. Enjoy the greatness known as J-Stew.

J-Stew has become so famous that a band paid tribute to him by writing a preforming a song in his honor. Here's Three Day Weekend with "Mr. Automatic"

Editor's Note: I know the majority of you don't care for the Jim Rome Show and don't care about some guy named Jason Stewart. Give me a break. It's pouring down rain here in Sacramento today and RJBO and myself love this show.

Smack-Off 2009 Open Thread

Every year the Jim Rome hosts a contest called the Smack-Off. It's an event for callers to run smack and try and win the crown of King of all Smack. The History of the event can be found here.

Listen and leave comments!! I will update who has called throughout the show and give them grades on their performances.

Hour 1:
Rachel in Houston, B-: past her prime

Josh in Grand Rapids, B: Pretty good for a first timer.

Trapper in Dana Point, B: Ran good smack, but over the heads of clones- 30 pieces of Silver and Tramps like us- Also Rome liked his call

Terrance in Sierra Madre, B: Not a bad call, but not his best smack. E-Mailers love Terrance.

Via RJBO: Terrance: "At least let me be the guy who shoots Jeff in Richmond with the arrow."

Nezrin, DNF, She sucked and was ran by Rome.

Via RJBO: Emailer: "Who let the 'Leave Britney Alone' guy on the Smackoff?" Emailer #2: "It's not Nezrin, it's last place."

Hour 2:
Greg in Vegas, A: Great call, but Rome doesn't like the personnel appearance smack. Nor does he like the breast cancer smack.

Via RJBO: Greg in Vegas: "(Josh in Grand Rapids)'s takes were worse than any Steve Rushin-Rebecca Lobo baby."

Via RJBO: Rome: "Greg in Vegas: The best caller who will never win." Maybe.

Joe in the OC, DNF: Started off great, but faded at the end. Too many genitalia references for Rome.

Via RJBO: Tampon smack? Qu'est que c'est?

Vic in NoCal, B: I usually hate Vic, but this was a very solid call. Plus he actually made it in and didn't get ran.

Brad in Corona, A: Rome"Best ever Smack-Off rookie call ever!" - Brad was very solid and I can see him already cracking the top ten.

"You look like a 1970's pimp."-Brad in Corona talking about Craig Sager's suits.

Mike in Indy, A: The rookie callers are killing it. I do declare, I do declare, now I am done, rack me.

"Your sputtering El Camino couldn't make it out to Indy."-Mike in Indy, talking about Vic in NoCal.

Stevie Carbone, B: Former champ had great smack this year. Got to love him smacking Dirk's fiancee. Not enough to win this year.

"Why did the Jets trade up to draft the night stalker."-Phone Slap, talking about Mark Sanchez.

Via RJBO: PhoneSlap made his call while storm chasing an F5 tornado. That phone was going to go out at any second.

I thought I was the only one hearing the call going in-and-out.

Notes: The rookie callers killed this year. And unless someone has an epic call in the third hour, I can see either Brad or Mike winning the Smack-Off.

Hour 3:
E-Mailers are loving the rookie callers.

Iafrate, A: He came strong once again. It's going to be hard for the rookies to up-seed Iafrate. Got to love him making fun of Terrance in Sierra Madre.

"It's not just good enough, to be ugly."-Iafrate, talking about the rookie callers.

Bode in Pearland might be coming on next. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am tired of him.

Jay Mohr, C: Got to love his Michelle Obama smack. "She looks like the count on Sesame Street." He stumbled through his take though.

One more segment for callers then Rome will declare the winner.

Silk in Huntington Beach, DNF: Solid as usual, but he got ran and Rome wanted to get someone else in. Good Versus/Hockey and Boston Red Sox fans smack.

Via Anon: the talent has left... 3rd hour is horrible so far
Couldn't agree more.

Chad in Portland, F: His takes are old and they suck. I can't believe Rome would run Silk, for this loser.

Via RJBO: Tra-Tra-Tra-Trapper? Chad sucks.

Via Anon: I can't believe Rome ran Silk for Chad in Portland.>that was whack
Once again, can't agree more.

Via Anon: tape? no medleys ugh
Chad in Portland sucks.

Bode in Pearland, DNF: Rome ran out of time. Thankfully we didn't have to listen to that call any longer.

Via RJBO: Otis in Austin >>> Bode in Pearland/A D is better than a D-'d
This hour's callers have sucked so far.

The top ten and winner are declared next.

Top Ten:
10. Jay Mohr
9. Terrance in Sierra Madre
8. Rachel in Houston
7. Josh in Grand Rapids
6. Trapper in Dana Point
5. Iafrate- there is a new champion
4. Greg in Vegas
3. Vic in NoCal
2. Mike in Indy

Winner- Brad in Corona
He wins the 2009 Smack-Off in his first try. I am proud that Rome choose between the first timers instead of Iafrate.

Random Thoughts about the Smack-Off:
*Got to love that Wikipedia already has Brad in Corona as the winner already.
*Via Anon: hahaha no carbone
*Got to love Rome not giving the title to an old-timer. Brad was definitely the best today.
*Got to love Rome running out of time and not giving Brad his post-game Q&A until next Monday.
* It was refreshing not to hear a phone call from Jeff in Richmond. Any time he calls, you change the channel.

Thanks to all of you who left comments. And in the words of Rome:

GOOD NIGHT NOW!!!!
