1/20 College Basketball Open Thread

Well, we're finally here. ESPN's epic plan or fail, either way you look at it, finally takes place tonight. Mike Breen, Mark Jackson, and Jeff Van Gundy will call tonight's Wake Forest-UNC game while Dickie V calls an NBA game. Should be interesting, even though I'm looking forward to the Kansas-Baylor game. Both teams are ranked and it should be an interesting game. So leave comments, have fun, and no trolls.

NBA
Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs (ESPN, 9pm)- Dan Shulman, Dick Vitale

College Basketball
Wake Forest @ North Carolina (ESPN, 7pm)- Mike Breen, Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy
South Florida @ Cincinnati (ESPN2, 7pm)- John Saunders, Fran Fraschilla
Georgetown @ Pittsburgh (ESPNU, 7pm)- Dan McLaughlin, Tim Welsh
Baylor @ Kansas (ESPN2, 9pm)- Ron Franklin, Hubert Davis
Colorado @ Oklahoma State (ESPNU, 9pm)- Carter Blackburn, LaPhonso Ellis

  1. Last year Duke, this year UNC?

When are the NBA guys going to come to a real environment like Maryland, where we throw water bottles and quarters when we get pissed off?

  2. That's why they don't want to go to Maryland. Van Gundy doesn't want a quarter bouncing off his bald head.

  3. LOL at "former Nazareth star Jeff Van Gundy"

  4. Where the hell is Nazareth? I'm guessing it's somewhere on the East Coast.

  5. acording to Google Nazareth College is in Rochester, NY

  6. I figured it was in NY.

OT: We're having a major thunderstorm right now. The Sierra's are suppose to get up to like 10 feet of snow tonight.

  9. I actually enjoy listening to these guys. I think they do a great job for NBA games.

  10. OT but wasn't City of Blinding Lights also ESPN's theme song for the last World Cup?

  11. You would have to ask Justin that. I don't know.

  12. Maybe its just me, but I really don't think Mark Jackson adds much when these guys are together.

  13. I know UNC has players injured, but they will be lucky to make the tournament this year. Having no guards is killing them.

  14. @Keith Yup. College Basketball is a guard's game and UNC has none. Where's Vitale bragging on Larry Drew now?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't think I go back to Vitale after listening to Van Gundy.

  16. I used to really enjoy Vitale. But over the years, he's just worn me down. I don't enjoy listening to him at all.

  17. Wake looks better tonight than they did last week against Maryland.

And Vitale is still on because of his name. His performance in the Kentucky/Florida game last week totally disgusted me.

  19. OT but wasn't City of Blinding Lights also ESPN's theme song for the last World Cup?

Yes, it was. IF you are commenting on what I think you are commenting on, it's always good to see ESPN recycle their stuff like this.....

  20. I thought CoBL was the song, because it had just been released in 06.

The more I see Ish Smith, the more I see another Chris Paul.

  21. I like Smith more than I like Jeff Teague.

  22. I agree with Van Gundy. Travis Booker is a monster player.

+1 to Mark Jackson's Vitale impersonation

Ish Smith just ended this game with that 3...

  23. I can't wait to watch the Kansas-Baylor game. One of the better games this week.

  24. Jeff Van Gundy is great: while riffing on Chas McFarland calling himself "Chase"

"It has to be spelled phonetically. I can't spell my name J-E-F-F and call myself Mark."

  25. oh shit. its Tim Brando on this Duke-NC State game

OT Gossip Girl for Duke. I imagine there will be some outrage in Baltimore right now.

  26. Baylor doesn't has the depth to keep picking up fouls like they are.

  27. NC State is playing the game of their lives tonight.
