Foul Ball: Wash-Out

There were three games on Sunday washed out by rain. Chicago-San Francisco, Seattle-Cleveland, and Kansas City-Detroit. There has been a grand total of 5,209 games washed out this season in baseball by rain or snow. Far surpassing last year's total.

Atlanta 3, Philadelphia 2: Roy Halladay pitched another complete game and promptly lost. Clearly, Halladay doesn't know how to win. (Giants fans will understand that joke.) Halladay's biggest mistake of the game came in the eighth inning when he gave up a solo home run to Dan Uggla with the game tied. Other than that, Halladay pitched a hell of a game. The Braves and Phillies wore some sweat uniforms in the game.

Tampa Bay 3, Baltimore 9: If the Orioles played every game in Tampa St. Petersburg, they would be the AL East division champions. The Orioles are 5-1 so far in Tampa on the season. JJ Hardy hit a grand slam and Nick Markakis added a solo home run for the Orioles. Jake Arrieta went six innings giving up four hits and two runs to improve his record to 5-1 on the season.

Cincinnati 9, St. Louis 7: The St. Louis-Cincinnati rivalry has quickly become my favorite rivalry in baseball. You had all the Brandon Phillips shenanigans from last season to go along with that wild brawl. You have Tony LaRussa and Dusty Baker who have hated each other going back to their Bay Area days. Which brings us to this year. The Reds swept the Cardinals on Sunday at home and took a game and a half lead over St. Louis in the NL Central. During the ninth inning, Reds closer Francisco Cordero plunked Albert Pujols which prompted the Cardinals bench to yell at Cordero. When the game ended, Cordero was seen yelling at the Cardinals bench. Wild stuff. Can't wait to watch what else happens in this series.

Francisco Cordero Quote: Via the AP recap: “I wasn’t trying to hit him,” Cordero said. “I’ve got nothing against the Cardinals.”

Washington 8, Florida 4:  Washington scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Nats broadcast made another spelling error during the game to go along with another long line of Natinals screw ups.

Minnesota 3, Toronto 11: The Twins season is becoming uglier and uglier. They were swept by the Blue Jays at home and gave up three home runs on the afternoon to Jose Bautista. Bautista has know hit 16 home runs on the year and is on pace to hit 65 home runs on the year. Prepare to hear about steroid stories pertaining Bautista, because we can't give a player the benefit of the doubt anymore.

Oakland 3, Chicago 4: Rare is the day when a team can hit Trevor Cahill. The White Sox were the lucky ones yesterday. The White Sox roughed up Cahill in seven innings, hitting 10 of his pitches and scoring four runs. Four runs was more than enough for Mark Buehrle to shut down the pathetic A's offense in 6 1/3 innings.

Colorado 2, San Diego 10: The one day I root for Matt Latos and the Padres and they came through. The Giants didn't even play on Sunday and they now lead the NL West by one and half games over the Rockies.

New York 5, Boston 7: The Yankees didn't exactly have the greatest weekend. Jorge Posada burned his bridge on Saturday and the Yankees were swept on Sunday. Even better, the Yankees blew a three-run lead on Sunday. Time to watch the Bronx Bombers fans start panicking and demanding the team trade for Felix Hernandez and Tim Lincecum to bolster their rotation.
