- Let me first say I haven't discussed Conference realignment here for two reasons. First it's too hard to keep up with. The last time I checked the Big 12 was merging with the Big Ten. Syracuse and Pitt were moving to the Sun Belt. Michigan was moving to the MAC. The Pac-12 was expanding to 200 teams once UOP, St. Mary's, and Santa Clara brought back their football teams. You get the picture about conference realignment.
The second reason why I haven't mentioned conference realignment is because I'm bitter about the whole process. I'm bitter that realignment is happening during the middle of the season. I'm bitter that these schools are moving to conferences without even thinking about their basketball teams.
- Notre Dame better find a conference before they can't get schools to schedule games with them in late October early November because they're right in the middle of the conference season. Whether that conference is the ACC or Big Ten, Notre Dame better find a conference. Same to you, BYU.
- News broke late last that the Pac-12 won't expand any further. A couple of thoughts here. The Pac-12 might not have wanted to give in to Texas' demands now, but that doesn't mean somewhere down the line they won't. The Pac-12 also says the travel expenses to Texas and Oklahoma won't offset if those teams are added right now. Somewhere down the line though those travel expenses though will offset when Texas agrees to give up Longhorn Network I'm sure.
George Schroeder reported the Pac-12 also couldn't convince the schools presidents to expand. Which screams to me that teams like Cal, Oregon State, Arizona, Washington State don't want to expand because they still want that slim margin to reach a BCS game specifically the Rose Bowl.
- I have to admit that I'm enjoying the Big 12 cut each others throats. I'm seriously it's a soap opera in the Big XII. You have teams leaving, teams threatening to sue, teams demanding that the conference commissioner be fired, and teams that are just stuck in the middle because they don't have enough football juice to move onto a better conference or make demands. It's quite fascinating to watch.
I find all this realignment talk to be boring, frustrating, fascinating, and somewhat enjoyable. It's like watching a pack of wolves scavenging the forest in search of the last meal before the harsh winter descends upon the forest. I just wish it would all happen during the Summer and not during the college football season.
