We're approaching the end of the season and college football has hit a thud. This week's slate of games couldn't be less interesting just like the season. This season has been a disappointment in my opinion because the top two teams (Oregon, Auburn) are either not interesting, people can't watch the majority of their games, or are embroiled in a controversy.
How many Oregon games have people watched this year? A lot of people couldn't watch Oregon games because they were either on FSN/Versus or because the ABC regional coverage. Could you even name the Oregon starting quarterback or anyone on their defense? Oregon is a bland team that has beat up on pathetic Pac-10 defenses. They'll probably get thrashed by an SEC team in the national championship game.
As for Auburn, I think people are just worn out by the Cam Newton/recruiting story. Auburn is also another one of those teams who you couldn't name anyone on their team besides Cam Newton. This season has played out exactly like the 07 season when LSU played Ohio State in the championship game. I love college football, but I just want this season to end.
Announcing schedule via Awful Announcing.
Thursday, November 18th
UCLA at Washington, ESPN (8:00 PM ET) - The Thursday night games should have been an indication of how this season was going to play out. The Thursday night games have been dreadful and tonight's game is the epicenter of the dreadfulness. UCLA vs Washington? I'd rather be hit upside the head with a frying pan than watch this game.
Friday, November 19th
Fresno State at No. 4 Boise State, ESPN2 (9:30 PM ET) - Once again Boise State looks to improve their BCS resume on a national game. Last week, BSU improved their BCS standing by thrashing Idaho on a Friday night. If Boise State wants to make a statement to the computers and pass TCU for the third spot, this is the game they must win this game big.
Saturday, November 20th
No. 7 Wisconsin at Michigan, ESPN (12:00 PM ET) - If Wisconsin could score 82 points on Indiana last week, can you imagine how many points they could score on a Greg Robinson defense? Train wreck plus the epic reactions from RJBO in the comments section is enough to get me to watch this game.
Mississippi at No. 5 LSU, CBS (3:30 PM ET) - Believe it or not, but it was the Ole Miss game last season where we realized Les Miles makes Andy Reid looks like a genius when it comes to clock management. I wouldn't expect anything less than Miles screwing up the clock while being down by 4 with time running out in the fourth quarter.
No. 6 Stanford at California, FSN-National (3:30 PM ET) - In Jeff Tedford's 8 years as the Cal coach he's only lost to Stanford once. I'd like to see this streak continue this Saturday. I'll say this about Tedford, while Cal has failed to live up to expectations against the Pac-10's top teams, they've always managed to beat Stanford. I want to see the smirk on Harbaugh's stupid Michigan face to be wiped off. (Note: That's why I want Michigan to lose by 60 points on Saturday. Anything associated with Harbaugh, I want it to go down in flames.)
No. 9 Ohio State at No. 20 Iowa, ABC (3:30 PM ET) - Last year Ohio State ruined Iowa's season by beating them and winning the Big Ten. Iowa looks to turn the tables on Ohio State by defeating them and basically give the Big Ten title to Wisconsin.
Illinois vs. Northwestern @Chicago, IL, ESPNU (3:30 PM ET) - A lot has been made about this game. It's being played at Wrigley Field and one end zone is less that six inches away from the famous brick outfield walls. If this game was played between good teams and didn't have DavieJones' Locker calling the action, I might have actually been interested in watching this game.
No. 13 Arkansas at No. 21 Mississippi State, ESPN (7:00 PM ET) - I have no idea why you would want to watch this game? I just added it to the list for it wouldn't be so bare.
Army vs. Notre Dame @ New York, NY, NBC (7:00 PM ET) - I love how this game hasn't received any hype like the Northwestern-Illinois game even though it's being played at Yankee Stadium. Then again, if this game was on ESPN it would have received crazy hype because the game will be played in the greatest stadium in the universe.
Sacramento State at UC Davis, CSN-California (7:00 PM ET) - Let me give you a Geography lesson about the area I live in. I live in the Northern Valley of California. While I loved growing up in this area, it's a huge flood plane. There are several rivers that run through this area to the San Francisco Bay, making this area a huge flood plane. Because there's so much water, there are several bypasses for water to travel through to prevent cities from being flooded. One of those bypasses is known as the Yolo Causeway. The Yolo causeway is a 3-mile long bridge on Interstate-80 that travels over the Yolo bypass between Sacramento and Davis. The rivalry between Sacramento State and UC Davis is known as the Causeway Classic because only the Yolo Causeway separates Sacramento from Davis.
No. 8 Nebraska at No. 19 Texas A&M, ABC/GamePlan (8:00 PM ET) - Surprisingly, these two teams could actually face each other in the Big XII Championship game. That tells you how bad the Big XII is this season.
Recipe of the Week, Apple-Rosemary Blue Cheese Bites- I'm fat, so as you can imagine I love Thanksgiving. All the fatty foods are too good to pass up, so the recipe of the week is the very fattening Apple-Rosemary Blue Cheese Bites. Apples, cream cheese, Rosemary, and pecans stuffed into a dinner roll. I'm in heaven just thinking about it.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Howl- I didn't choose this beer for any other reason besides their website. The Magic Hat brewery website is one of the coolest websites I've ever visited. It's interactive and has cool trailers for each of their brews. I feel like ordering a six-pack from them just because of it.
