College Football Open Thread: Week 3

This week in college football is not as exciting as last week. We do have some conference games and the return of CBS with Verne and Gary. So there is reason to watch college football today. I'll hopefully be around to update this thread when something good happens. Enjoy the games, leave comments and don't be a troll.

  1. I'll be gone for the morning games. I should be back for the afternoon games.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Bob Wischusen and Bob Griese should not have worn matching suits, shirts, and ties today. It's scary.

    ReplyDelete
  3. UMASS LEADS 3-0! APPY STATE DEJA VU!!!!

...Honestly, Michigan's D looked like a pile of puke on their opening drive. In other words, "normal."

    ReplyDelete
  4. Robert Bolden (and his poise) continue to impress the hell out of me. Penn State is walking all over Kent State.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think Lou Holtz (the real one) Thursday picked Kent State over Penn State.

    ReplyDelete
  6. So many hot-and-cold throws by Robinson early. Too many fastballs off of receivers hands but a nice pass to Grady for 45.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Brian Griese: "I did my best to draw Mr. Bolden," on his 'Grease' Board.

The UPS guy is laughing at that stick figure.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Tom Hart on Michigan's open tryouts: "There was a woodwind out there trying to make the team."

I'll take anyone who can cover, 'cause Michigan needs them. Good grief.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Heading up to the Bloomsburg football game. Penn State is walking over Kent State. Go Huskies!

  11. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, UMass leads Michigan 10-7. I better turn this computer off before I break it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I see Michigan is trying to out due Cal in the shit the bed department this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Even though Michigan has surged to the lead, that defense is still atrocious.

    /puts away Michigan Kool-Aid
    //picks up adult beverage

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good thing I never pulled the Cal cool-aid out of the shelves.

/They got their asses kicked last night.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "SportsPickle

The Penn State crowd just sang Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer". I expect New Jersey militia to attack within hours."

    ReplyDelete
  16. 28 unanswered points by Michigan; 35-17 Wolverines.

I saw some of that game and Kaepernick sliced and diced Cal up.

ECU up 17-7 over VaTech. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @RJBO: Cal couldn't have stopped a nose bleed in that game.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Keith, you could say the same about Michigan today. Luckily, they're playing UMass, who's driving again...

    ReplyDelete
  19. This. is. ridiculous. UMass picks up a 4th and 9 pretty easily. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. These morning games have been terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've at least had the thrill (pain?) of watching Michigan playing flag football against the Minutemen.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ISU-Kansas State are playing the ineptitude bowl on FSN right now for me. The game is tied, but terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kyle Havens > Richie Havens

Touchdown UMass. Relaying a pregame quote from Havens:

Tom Hart: "It's not like we're playing the Patriots. Kids dream of playing in Michigan Stadium, but not me. My team is Cal."

    ReplyDelete
  24. I pity any poor bastard that roots for Cal. They'll break your heart every year.

BTW, how to you bold text in the comments RJBO?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Same way to put a comment in Italics, but (b) instead of (i).

I know Detroit's in the middle of MAC territory, but UConn-Temple, Channel 7? Yeesh. Run the Nu-Wave Oven commercial or 3 episodes of Matlock for three hours instead.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It didn't work. I must fucking that up somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Keith, Blogger wouldn't accept the comment if I used the <> just to illustrate my point, so I put the b inside of (). My bad.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ugh. Michigan gets an interception and fumbles it right back to UMass.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @RJBO: When I try to do that, I get a message that says the "Tag is not closed."

    ReplyDelete
  30. I guess that's why I'm not a teacher.

You know how to do Italics in the comments? Bracket whatever you want to bold (b) or italicize (i) with <> at the start with the corresponding letter and at the end to close the tag. Blogger doesn't have strikethrough in the comments, though (I don't think).

I've been distracted by Michigan GIVING UP ANOTHER GD TOUCHDOWN TO UMASS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I still don't know how to do it. I think it has more to do with me being an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pass interference in the end zone. Are you TRYING to give UMass the game???

    ReplyDelete
  33. WIDE OPEN UMass touchdown. I'm going to be sick....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your going to be sick? What about K-State fans?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I finally understand how to use HTML in the comments!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Greg Robinson taught me how to teach people HTML.

    /Fire Greg Robinson

    ReplyDelete
  37. @RJBO: You didn't tell my you have to close the tag like this: /

I finally just looked up the HTML on the blog to find that out :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Keith, I did, but my earlier comment had the / inside of brackets like , causing it to disappear.

    /I suck

    ReplyDelete
  39. @RJBO: It's okay. BTW, the return of CBS means the return of Brando. And it wasn't pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That whole grease fire I created caused me to miss the Mallett comeback and Brando's comeback on CBS.

    /I really suck

    ReplyDelete
  41. Annnnd the ESPN2 Reverse Mirror is not available in HD.

They doused Al Golden with Gatorade for starting 3-0?

    ReplyDelete
  42. McDonough and Millen are calling the Wash-Neb game.

    ReplyDelete
  43. watching Florida/Tennessee, just for Crazy Uncle Verne

too bad the Terps weren't aware the game started at Noon

    ReplyDelete
  44. Patrick & James are bad enough without all of the audio problems....

    ReplyDelete
  45. I almost forgot about Mike Leach doing Washington State-SMU on CBS College Sports.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Stephen Threet starts for Arizona State? Bwwwwwwaaaaaaa!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I knew you would like that RJBO. LOL Erickson has gotten desperate.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I burst out laughing when Mike Patrick said "Stephen Threet can run."

    ReplyDelete
  49. On the bad snap:

    Verne: "Here we go again!"
    Gary: "Oh man!"

Danielson graduated from the "Ron Santo School of Analysis" this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Haha Made me snort."-Uncle Verne

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bloomsburg 47, IUP 20.

    Go Huskies!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Alabama vs. Arkansas next week should be good.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, Chris Rainey. Wow.

30 arrests involving 27 players arrested? Fail.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What's wrong with Text messaging a women, "Time to Die?"

    ReplyDelete
  55. Even though Tebow graduated, Gary Danielson still has a Tebowner in that booth.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yup, Gary. Blame the social media and 'Tweeting' for all of the arrests at Florida.

Danielson: "When you have the public media and the Tweeting and everyone has iPhones, that arrest number is shocking." Que?

    ReplyDelete
  57. iPhones = arrests to Gary Danielson.

    He was once yours, RJBO?

    ReplyDelete
  58. 97 yard TD return for ASU. Mike Patrick didn't realize it until there were 40 yards to go.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I used to like Gary Danielson with Nessler. Then the ill-fated radio show here, and dude has become more and more hare-brained with time.

    ReplyDelete
  60. "Matt Simms calls his dad, Big Phil. So do we."-Verne

    ReplyDelete
  61. You have to read this to believe it.
    http://panews.com/sports/x842118316/Tragedy-strikes-during-WO-Stark-game

    ReplyDelete
  62. Verne: "Bobby Petrino left for the NFL. He has left a few places." Ha.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I heard about that already. Terrible they continued the game.

    ReplyDelete
  64. 3-0 Tennessee. How did that curve in?

"Looks like your 9-iron." - Verne Lundquist

    ReplyDelete
  65. This just in. tOSU dominates Ohio.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow. Stephen Threet looks gr-...go-...competent.

Patrick: "Stephen Threet is really impressing us." Are you impressed by blue cars, too?

    ReplyDelete
  67. @RJBO: Why are you watching that game? Why am I watching Air Force vs. Oklahoma?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Danielson: "Here's the first snap. A little bit outside, as Bob Uecker used to say."

    ReplyDelete
  69. Keith, for comedic value? I'm switching between ASU-Wisky & Fla-Tenn.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Upset alert: Wisconsin can't do shit against Arizona State. 10-3 Sun Devils.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I wouldn't watch the Neb-Wash game if I'm you. The camera is shaking and it's making me sick.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I actually want the college version of the Red Zone channel than the actual Red Zone channel.

    ReplyDelete
  73. ESPN is tinkering with a RedZone like channel for Time Warner & Bright House, but anything with Ani-sh Sh-roff on it is doomed to fail.

    A bad interception by Simms.

    ReplyDelete
  74. It's like Chris Simms is playing for Tenn.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm need to go out and eat more food than any human being ever should. Brb.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Danielson: "Gordon just out-athleticsed Florida on that play."

    ReplyDelete
  77. Verne doing a Hawaii Five-O promo: "Cue the waves! Cue the music! Cue the action!"

    ReplyDelete
  78. Florida leads 7-3 at the half.
Wisky takes the lead over ASU before halftime.
    I need a sandwich.

    /puts Beninati & Baylor-TCU on in background
    //back in 15

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's cold in Sacramento today, so I'm eating Chicken Noodle Soup.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wow. Minnesota takes the lead over U$C (®Keith'd) and Tennessee ties Florida.

    /corned beef sandwich for me

    ReplyDelete
  81. Spoke too soon, U$C with the kickoff return for TD (2-point conversion failed)

    ReplyDelete
  82. We're celebrating my Dad's 60th birthday tomorrow with Mexican Food. I'll be gone for a couple of hours during the live blog.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Congrats to your father, Keith.

Fake Punt by Florida for the 1st Down!

    ReplyDelete
  84. If Florida goes with the fake punt it's a good call. If Boise State goes with the fake punt, it's a gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Verne: "Frankie Hammond Jr! Off the suspended list!"

Doesn't sound like a 'dirty program' to me at all...

    ReplyDelete
  86. "Off the suspended list."-Verne

Well when you have 30 players arrested in a five year period, there will probably be quite a few suspensions.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Only in the SEC does the Scholar of the week has a 3.14 GPA.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Craig James: "(Singletary) hit me several times in college and the pros like I was a rat."

    ReplyDelete
  89. James is a rat. His rat son ratted out the Pirate.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Now I remembered why Threet has transferred twice..........

    ReplyDelete
  91. Simms was lucky not to get a safety on that intentional grounding.

Danielson: "I'm familiar with this intentional grounding stuff."

    ReplyDelete
  92. But, Keith, Threet has been so composed and poised!

    /Patrick & James all day

    ReplyDelete
  93. A member of the Simms family sucs. The Mets suck. What else is new in life?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Colorado's winning 6-0, San Diego's losing 2-1.

    /NL West update

    ReplyDelete
  95. Patrick: "Threet's a guy you really root for."

    Ummmmm.......

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm mystified as to how Tennessee is still in this game...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Arizona State, down by 7, is inside the red zone facing a 3rd and 2 against Wisky.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Touchdown Arizona State!

They are an extra point away from tying the #11 team in Madison.

    ReplyDelete
  99. THE PAT IS BLOCKED! WISKY STILL LEADS BY 1!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Touchdown Florida. That ought to end that Tennessee rally.

    ReplyDelete
  101. @ 49er16: In honor of the Phillies having German Heritage Night tonight, The Good Phight is having a German heritage game thread tonight. Not sure what that entails, but the entire post is in German.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Actually, as shitty as Wisconsin's kick coverage has been, maybe not.

    62-13 Bama. Geez.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Wisky can take a knee and end this game.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I can't figure out Oklahoma for anything. Their lead is down to 3.

    ReplyDelete
  105. @JFein: I'll drink a Becks beer in honor of the Phillies German Heritage Night.

    ReplyDelete
  106. CSI has officially jumped the shark. Justin Bieber will be on a episode.

    /I used to love CSI

    ReplyDelete
  107. Another first down and Oklahoma will hang on against Air Force.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Auburn-Clemson is on ESPN for me. Texas-Texas Tech on ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Brent: "Welcome to the part of the country where football is a religion, ladies and gentlemen."

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm watching the Phillies game tonight. None of these night college football games interest me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm intrigued by Iowa-Arizona.

    /closer than the experts think'd

    ReplyDelete
  112. I'm also intrigued by Iowa-Arizona. I guess you'll be staying up late for that game, RJBO?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Kyle Kendrick ist ein nutzloses Stück Scheiße Affen

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'll be around. If any of the games get out of hand, I'll stop on Brewers-Giants on MLB Network.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Nice shovel pass by Parker. Touchdown Clemson.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Stouffer: "What you want to do is squeeze him from the side and shut the front door." Ewwww.

    ReplyDelete
  117. @ RJBO: He's probably thinking about what he wants to do to Joe Beninati after the game....

    ReplyDelete
  118. By some grace of God, it's still going on, 4:30 left.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Ever wondered what happened to Tim Couch? He's calling the Akron-Kentucky game.

I'm watching that game on ESPN3.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think I'd rather watch the Bill Patrick-led postgame than that game.

    /not really

    ReplyDelete
  121. @ Keith: Really? Tim Couch? He's calling football games now?

You know you are a bust when you lose your job to Kelly Holcomb.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I hate the fact my Comcast doesn't have ESPNU in HD. I'm missing out on this Mississippi State-LSU game with Herm Edwards.

    ...maybe it's not all bad.

    ReplyDelete
  123. @Justin: Yep, he's calling the Kentucky-Akron game.

/Couch was also cut by Green Bay and all he was asked to do was back up Favre.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Wendi Nix: "That Oregon Duck that does the push-ups is gonna explode!"

    ReplyDelete
  125. Let me amend my Akron-Kentucky comment: I'd rather see that game instead of "The Game 365 - Scott Boras."

    /thanks for nothing, FS Detroit

    ReplyDelete
  126. I can't believe I'm the only person outraged about the fact that Auburn uses the Golden Eagle as their mascot and their not native of Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Mushed-mouth dude on SEC Tonight on CBS College Sports: "Iowa doesn't play well West of the Mississippi." Isn't Iowa City west of the Mississippi?

    ReplyDelete
  128. The fact I'm getting the Irish against Sparty means I'm watching the O's...talk to y'all tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  129. Boise State-Wyoming is on CBS College Sports. Ummm...Texas-Texas Tech is only on ESPN2-SD if you get ND-MSU over-the-air.

    /See ya, Kris

    ReplyDelete
  130. Bye Kris

@RJBO: I had to share that Iowa City quote with EDSBS. They're cracking up.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I want to know who said it. That SEC Postgame show had a bunch of clowns on it (and one halfway decent looking chick).

    ReplyDelete
  132. Wilson Valdez hurt something going to 2nd base. If he can't stay in the game, that means Brian Bocock will have to come in for the Phillies.

It's only the bottom of the 2nd.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Brian Jones said the "Iowa" quote on CBS College Sports. Imbecile.

    ReplyDelete
  134. @ RJBO and 49er16: The entire state of Iowa is west of the Mississippi.

    /Geography buff'd
    //Facepalm

    ReplyDelete
  135. South Carolina may have just broken Tate Forcier's brother.

    ReplyDelete
  136. JFein, sometimes you hear idiocy and have to do a doubletake.

Oh, and CBS College Sports? Your website is flimsy; FakeAV redirect sites have more info and options than you do.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Quote from a Phillies beat writer on Twitter: "Saw Bocock pop up in the dugout a few times."

    ReplyDelete
  138. Wyoming holds Boise State to a FG early. 3-0 Broncos.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Ryan Howard has surpassed Pat Burrell on the Phillies all-time home run list.

    ReplyDelete
  140. He's still not as cool as Burrell.

/Burrell has actually been struggling recently.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I failed to mention earlier:

Phillies' German Heritage Night >>>> White Sox's 'Halfway to St. Patrick's Day' Night

    ReplyDelete
  142. 2 doubles tonight for Wilson Valdez. Ich glaube es nicht.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Phillies' German Heritage Night >>>> White Sox's 'Halfway to St. Patrick's Day' Night

    /Not saying much.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Wow, those are some terrible uniforms Sparty.

    ReplyDelete
  145. The way Auburn's offense is struggling tonight, you'd thought Tony Franklin was their OC again.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Texas Tech is playing defense like the Pirate is still coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Nice of the ND band to drown out Holly Rowe's report.

Nessler: "Holly must be striking up the band."

    ReplyDelete
  148. Incredible catch in the Auburn-Clemson game.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Blackledge: "This offensive style by Michigan State plays right into the hands of where Notre Dame's strength is."

Jimmy Raye (not this one) must still be a consultant.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Whoa, Michigan State changed their uniform style?

    ReplyDelete
  151. Unfortunately, I know what Jimmy Raye your talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Louisville with the 3rd down stand in Corvallis, down 7 with 1:42 left.

    /FCS finally good for something
    //still not in HD

    ReplyDelete
  153. Texas Tech can't stop a nose bleed.

    ReplyDelete
  154. 88 yards for Louisville and Adam Froman's Sausage to tie it up.

    ReplyDelete
  155. @RJBO: CSN California will show Houston-UCLA for me at 7:30. Which means I get Petros tonight.

    /I'm not watching that game.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Louisville now at midfield.

    /I might watch Houston-UCLA
    //on mute

    ReplyDelete
  157. Dockery with the pick. Ballgame Oregon State.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Hate to admit this, but if Crist plays the whole game last week, ND is 2-0 and everyone is slobbering all over them.

    ReplyDelete
  159. "The Bermuda Triangle of the National League." - Tom McCarthy.
    Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Oregon 69 Portland State 0 with time left in the first half.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Aren't you supposed to struggle with FCS teams?

    /Michigan'd

    ReplyDelete
  162. I can't believe I thought Oregon would struggle without Masoli.

/That's why you should always bet against me.
    //They still haven't played anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Kurt Cousins has 'throwing picks to ND in the end zone' mastered. Next: checkdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Clemson is another team I'm not buying. They always look good at first, then fall apart down the stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Wow! Somehow Texas Tech has come back on Texas. I thought that game was over.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Wendi Nix seems hung up on how big Cam Newton is...

    /He's 6'6" and 247 lbs'd

    ReplyDelete
  167. I seriously thought the Tech-Texas game was over. The Red Raiders actually tied the game and are holding their own on defense.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Brent: "(Newton)'s a tough hombre to bring down."

    ReplyDelete
  169. This Auburn game isn't over yet, either. War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Hello guys.

    Touchdown Auburn

    ReplyDelete
  171. Sweet! Awful Announcing is following me on Twitter!

    ReplyDelete
  172. Dayne Crist felt guilty about Cousins throwing a pick in the Red Zone, so he decided to match him.

    ReplyDelete
  173. TT has said Texas? Didn't see that one coming.

    ReplyDelete
  174. The Tech defense actually woke up.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Philadelphia laser-gate Part 2?

Ugh. Something's bothering the Nationals. Odds whatever it is will make national headlines in the next few hours: over 75%.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Texas Tech picks off Texas.

    ReplyDelete
