Last week was "Monster Saturday" and this week is "Monster Dude." Hey-Oh! Okay I know that was bad, but this week's slate of college football games makes me want to belch. There are only a handful of games that I want to watch. Heck, even the ABC Saturday Night game will be split up into regional coverage telling me even ESPN thought this week's of games are mediocre at best. Let's make the best out of this weekend, since conference play begins really soon. There are some games you need to watch this weekend and here they are.
Announcing schedule courtesy of Awful Announcing
Thursday, September 16
Cincinnati @ North Carolina State (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.) -- I have no idea what to make of this game. Cincinnati's offense has struggled without Brian Kelly and I haven't watched one second of NC State this season. I'll probably watch the first half of this game and then switch over to the Giants-Dodgers game.
Friday, September 17
No. 24 California @ Nevada (ESPN2, 10 p.m.) -- The battle of wills between these two teams. Nevada has the number one ranked offense entering the game and Cal has the number one ranked defense. Neither team has played anybody in their first two games, so those rankings are skewed. Something has to break though. I'll be interested to see how Cal plays in that weird high altitude/high desert town of Reno, Nevada.
Saturday, September 18
No. 13 Arkansas @ Georgia (ESPN, 12 p.m.) -- Arkansas faces their first true test of the season. Not only do the Razorbacks have to travel for the first time this year, they have to play a conference opponent. Georgia was a massive disappointment against South Carolina last week, but thankfully for them Arkansas hasn't been overly impressive on offense this season. Arkansas needs to win this game though as they face Alabama next week.
Air Force, No. 9 Oklahoma (FSN-National, 3:30 p.m.) -- Both teams are coming off impressive wins last week. Air Force pounded BYU and Oklahoma pounded Florida State. I want to see Oklahoma stop the Falcons running game. If the Sooners can do that, I'll start drinking their cool-aid.
No. 8 Nebraska @ Washington (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.) --Once upon a time both of these teams used to compete for national titles and used to play each other during those days. Amazingly both teams haven't been BCS teams since 2001 and both teams are trying to rebuild. Fascinating game considering the history of both schools and their current status.
No. 7 Florida @ Tennessee (CBS, 3:30 p.m.) -- With the return of CBS mean the return of Grandpa Verne and Uncle Gary. If last week's game was any indication, Tennessee will be blown out. Be prepared for Verne and Gary to discuss Florida post Tebow. Oh yeah, be prepared for Verne and Gary to discuss SEC's supremacy and why every conference is beneath them.
Arizona State @ No. 11 Wisconsin (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.) -- I'm watching this game for one reason only: Dennis Erickson likes to drink + Wisconsin is a famous party school = Drunken hilarity.
BYU @ Florida State (ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.) -- Both teams are coming off of loses where their offenses looked like they were stuck in mud. I don't like BYU in this game because they have to travel across country to play a team in a humid environment.
Clemson @ No. 15 Auburn (ESPN, ESPN3D, 7 p.m.) -- For some reason this is the game of the week. Which is funny because both of these teams always start out the year well only to implode down the stretch. Brent will definitely have money on Auburn for this game.
No. 4 Texas @ Texas Tech (ABC/ESPN2, 8 p.m.) -- This is the first game for Texas in Lubbock since the famous Michael Crabtree game. Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell aren't walking through that door, but so isn't Colt McCoy. Garrett Gilbert will be facing his first true road test in Lubbock which will surly be rocking on Saturday night. By the way, Ron Franklin is calling the game and that's reason enough to watch.
No. 10 Iowa @ No. 18 Arizona (ESPN, 10:30 p.m.) -- For the first time since 1998, two rank teams will be facing each other Tuscon. Hopefully the old people will be awake when this game is played. Watch the Iowa defense destroy the finesse Arizona offense.
Recipe of the Week, Grilled Jalapeno Poppers: The recipe of the week reminds me of my beloved cousin who moved to Indianapolis last year. He would make Grilled Jalapeno Poppers which were absolutely delicious. I've never been a fan of spicy food, but there was something wonderful about grilled jalapeno peppers. The great thing about them, they're pretty easy to make. Prepare your mouth though for the inferno that will engulf it.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Bloody Mary: Can't have Poppers without a Bloody Mary. I've never been a fan of Vodka, but mix Vodka with tomato juice/Tabasco sauce/Worcestershire sauce/ground pepper/horseradish/lemon juice and top it off with a celery stick and it's wonderful. (Note for Justin: Since today is your 21st birthday, drink a Bloody Mary tomorrow morning to cure that hangover. It works just as good as Dr. Pepper works as a contraceptive.)
I'm watching the now irrelevant Twins & Good Guys on MLB Network over the Mike Leach-less Cincy-NC State game.
ReplyDeleteNo. 1 Alabama @ Duke (ABC/GamePlan, 3:30 p.m.) -- Beth Mowins, Ray Bentley, Jenn Brown
Can Ray Bentley only broadcast games with a female PbPer?
Looks like Ray Bentley is the meat in the estrogen sandwich.
ReplyDeleteI think Terps/Morgantown Community College is going to be a much better game than people think Saturday
