2010 NBA Finals, Game 5: Lakers at Celtics, Open Thread

This series has been back-and-forth so much, I have no clue who is going to win. One game the Lakers look great. One game the Celtics look great. I hate using cliches like "This is a must win for (whatever team" but this is a must win for either the Celtics or Lakers. With the series tied and going back to Los Angeles for Game 6 and 7 neither team wants to go back to the Staples Center on the verge of elimination.

The Celtics are hoping the Big 3 have a complete game together. All three players have been inconsistent throughout the series. The Lakers are hoping for better defense and rebounding in Game 5. Also the Lakers have to get something out of their bench. Lamar Odom has pulled one of his usual disappearing acts so far in the series. The Lakers need more out of him since Andrew Bynum will be hobbling around on a bum knee.

Once again watch out for the refs. I thought the refs did a good job in Game 4, but you never with these guys. As always leave comments and don't be a troll.

  1. This NBA Finals has been nearly unwatchable.

    Celtics by 18.

  2. I think Kobe wins this game for the Lakers. He's due.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Finally a "traditional" playing of the National Anthem

    ReplyDelete
  4. And we're due for one decent NBA Finals game, aren't we?

  5. Doc pregame: "The more we sweat in peace, the more we rest in war."

I would make a "these games must be peaceful because dude's face usually looks like the BP oil spill" joke, but only Keith would get it.

  7. Bynum needs to stay out there for the Lakers to win. He's looked good early. Let's see if he can gut it out.

  8. Nice counterprogramming, ESPN. Good Guys-Cubs. A 3 hour loop of the commercial with Ozzie & Piniella rapping would be more entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Big Baby does look like an Ogre.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Kendrick Perkins should never lead the break again. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  11. @RJBO yes. ESPN would have done a lot better with Mets/Orioles

    /sarcasm

seriously, how did you ever survive 2003?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Perkins leading the fast break made me fall off my couch laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. kt, I was a Cubs fan from afar and got to Chicago after the '03 meltdown. My hard times surviving were 2004 (they choked away a wild card spot) and 2005 (watching the Good Guys win as the Cubs struggled).

  14. The Lakers are only shooting 29% and the game is tied? Celtics are in trouble

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm shocked Joey Crawford got that call right.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bad news for the O's, Kris. The Giants are red hot right now. They swept Oakland and are looking great on offense. Aubrey Huff hit two home runs today.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sheed has had some nice D inside this quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Goran Dragic is probably having a nice laugh at Sasha's "shooting" right now.

@Keith the Giants should be ashamed if they don't take at least 2 from the Zer-O's. Good to see Audrey's getting ready for it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Kris: Agreed. The Giants should take 2 out of 3 from the O's. Watch, they will lose 2 out of 3.

  20. I turned to the baseball game just in time to hear the guys going on about gum. Once Jon Miller did the "Doublemint Gum" song, the channel quickly changed.

    Vujacic with the 3.

  21. With each Nate Robinson basket, a piece of each Knicks fan soul dies.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Breen on Rondo's scoop: "That's a pretty move, Mark."
Jackson: "That's takin' it to the streets."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rondo versus Artest. It's like a cat versus a pitbull.

    /The Lox's "Money, Power, Respect"d

    ReplyDelete
  24. that's a dumb T by Rondo.

"[Rondo] weighs 112 lbs and Artest weighs 280"

    ReplyDelete
  25. JVG: "Say 'Queensbridge' now, Artest. 'Queensbridge!'"

    Hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Frankly, Rondo shoving Artest may have awoke the Celtics.

    Own Goal from Gasol!

    ReplyDelete
  27. kt, no one doesn't even does that in schoolboy play, let alone the NBA Finals.

    /Martin Tyler'd

    ReplyDelete
  28. Btw, if Rondo gets a T for touching Artest, why didn't Kobe get one? Is it because Artest is a potential homicidal maniac?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I believe Mookie will now chew you out for mocking Martin Tyler, RJBO

    ReplyDelete
  30. should be some fireworks in the 2nd half

    ReplyDelete
  31. He should. "No one doesn't even 'does?" What have I been drinking?

Kobe better snap out of this funk fast.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Detroit water through a Brita water pitcher would be South African water.

Ben McDonald is doing the Super Regional game on ESPN2?

    ReplyDelete
  33. @RJBO Ben McDonald has been horrible on MASN. His accent is only slightly less thick than the Scotsman ESPN had on the Germany game this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agreed on Ben's accent, kt.
ESPN's found some interesting people to do the Super regionals: Morgan Ensberg, Eric Byrnes, Nomah, and I think Beth Mowins & one of ESPNU's basketball analysts were on the UVA Super regional together.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eric Byrnes? Isn't he suppose to be playing softball in the South Bay right now?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Eric Byrnes did the regionals in Miami last week & the Super Regionals in Gainesville this week.

No runs, no hits either way in Chicago so far.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @RJBO is it Dan Bonner? He goes right from ACC Basketball to ACC Baseball. Shockingly, he has nothing insightful to say about baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love Jon Miller, but he is terrible on ESPN. I blame the presence of Joe Morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Honestly, I have no idea, kt. I think he played basketball or football in the SWAC. That might rule out Dan Bonner...

Nice block by Perkins leads to the Pierce 3!

    ReplyDelete
  40. @RJBO yeah. the SWAC would rule out Dan Bonner.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ted Lilly with a no-hitter through 6.
Gavin Floyd with a no-hitter through 5. Heh.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Only the Chicago teams could no-hit each other.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Odd because Lilly is 1-5 & Gavin Floyd is usually only capable of beating the Tigers.

    Six no-hit innings for Floyd.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ray Allen & Derek Fisher with the double Ts.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Kobe having the Lakers' last 21 points and they're still down by double digits.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cs are gonna pull away at this rate.

Jon Miller talking about the "best & worst umpire" poll. Stunned CB Bucknor finished last ahead of Joe West & Angel Hernandez.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gasol scores the first non-Kobe points of the 2nd half.

Soriano with a double to end Floyd's no-hit bid.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Gavin Floyd just lost his no-hitter.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I can't believe that I agree with Joe Morgan......

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ted Lilly has a no-no through 8....

    ReplyDelete
  52. Pierce didn't need to 'sell' that foul call.

    /JVG constantly through tonight's game'd

    ReplyDelete
  53. "It's all Chicago tonight." - Jon Miller

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shit! What do I watch? 4th quarter of the NBA finals or the top of the 9th?

    ReplyDelete
  55. They would play through a monsoon in order to get this no hit bid through the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jon Miller, Zambrano's no-hitter against the Astros happened in Milwaukee because of Hurricane Ike, not Katrina.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "Not a very good throw- but a VERY good...execution by Piersynzki there" -Joe Morgan

    ReplyDelete
  58. Someone called Bruce Froemming and he didn't leave an expletive-laced voicemail in response?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jackson: "I call it 'Grand Theft Rondo.'" Bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Mark Jackson--"That is Grand Theft Rondo"

    ReplyDelete
  61. Rondo has been incredible this quarter. Wow.

Jackson: "What a flop by Pierce. Learned from Derek Fisher."

Fisher was never wheeled off the court before, Mark.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Got to admit I can't wait to see the Cubs blow this

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Just like the Blackhawks goaltender in the Stanley cup Finals- Nemmi"

oh Jon Miller, you're going over the cliff

    Cubs hang on

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jon Miller: "(Koyie Hill) needs to be like the Blackhawks goaltender in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nemi...Niemi was so good." ?

    ReplyDelete
  65. oh what is Ray Allen thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  66. JVG's reverse psychology idea was the 2nd worst concept I heard in sports today.

/Dick Stockton suggesting Strasburg should be on the All-Star team this year

    ReplyDelete
  67. when did a West Virginia game break out?

JVG "why don't they just point out the moron and throw him out?"

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't think the ball hit the rim at all

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bud Selig approves of no replay on that 24 second call.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Wow. are the Celtics trying to give the game away?

    ReplyDelete
  71. of course Artest had to help the Celtics out

    ReplyDelete
  72. Artest just gave the game back missing those 2 FTs.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jackson: "You talk about Rondo being the best QB in Boston, well Pierce proved he was a good receiver, too."

    ReplyDelete
  74. Cs with a chance to close it out in Staples Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Crazy Pills lost this game for the Lakers.

    ReplyDelete
  76. That's it. I'm taking all money and putting everything on the Lakers Tuesday night.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Easy, kt. Stern might want this series to go 7.

    /conspiracy theory'd

    ReplyDelete
  78. @RJBO huh? of course this is going 7!
