2010 NBA Finals, Celtics at Lakers Game 7: Open Thread

The NBA Finals haven't seen a game 7 since the 2005 season. The NBA also hasn't seen a compelling NBA Finals go seven games since the 1988 Finals. We finally have a compelling NBA Finals series go seven games. Two main themes from the game, Legacy and how will the Celitcs respond to the Kendrick Perkins injury.

Legacy is on the line between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett/Paul Pierce/Ray Allen. Kobe can win his 5th championship and second without Shaq cementing his place along with the game's greats. Garnett/Pierce/Allen can win their second championship and cement their place in the Hall of Fame.

The other main theme will be how the Celtics play without Kendrick Perkins. Glen Big Baby Davis will start in his place, bringing more scoring and energy, but he doesn't have the size to compete with Bynum and Odom. The Celtics have had an uphill climb throughout the year and this will be their biggest challenge.

My pick, the Lakers. I've never liked teams losing game six and coming back to win game seven. There is something about winning game six and closing the series out then. Teams that lose game six seem like they never recovered. I'm going with the Lakers tonight. I hope I'm wrong.

Leave comments and don't be a troll.

  3. Lakers by 9 tonight.
I'm so glad this is almost over, not just for the mostly non-competitive playoffs, but to also give Michael Wilbon a break from constantly slurping Magic on camera.

    ReplyDelete
  4. @RJBO: I haven't watched a minute of the pre-game or halftime shows with Wilbon and crew. I just find something else on TV to watch during that time.

  45. So many Lakers offensive boards....

Also, ABC, you did not catch that s-bomb in time.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @49er16 I'm sorry. LOL Kobe is one my favorite non-Wizards players. I can't root for Rasheed Wallace either. So much hope w/ him in the 90s that the Wiz could be decent, never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is an anti-Lakers blog and I have the power to delete comments ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  48. As soon as this game is over, NBA talk will go back to exclusively LeBron talk.
    Can the Lakers & Cs play a Game 8 & 9?

    T.O. is still a celebrity?

  49. "It's a Great American Friday..."

No it isn't, only the 4th of July is!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. JVG talking about how cute a celebrity's kid is: Creepy, at best.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Rasheed with his 2nd foul. 38-34, This hasn't been a pretty game.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Scal totally owned that 10 seconds of game he was in.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I wanted a semi-intriguing bottom of the 9th to watch while halftime was on, but Joba & Chan Ho had to bollix things up.

/turns on Family Guy on TBS instead

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ RJBO: Don't forget Demeco Marte!

    ReplyDelete
  55. @JFein Nats lost to the Tigers this afternoon. What else is new?!

None of their starters not named Strasburg can pitch. They all stink!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm enjoying this mini preview of Strasburg's next start on MLB Network tomorrow instead.

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOL Rome

    "Jim Rome

How can I focus on Game 7 when I'm sweating Tim Howard's health so hard?"

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love the discussion about Kobe's legacy by the halftime crew. /Sarcasm

Damn White Sox game on WGN ended. Start the 2nd half, please.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Stu: "If you're not glued to the 2nd half, something's wrong with you."

Au contraire! Your insomnia was cured by the 1st half.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Phils win 7-1.

I now eagerly wait for my father and My Brother The Vikings Fan to come home drenched in beer.

    ReplyDelete
  61. @RJBO What? I can't hear you. I'm getting tired...

    ReplyDelete
  62. No basket! WOW! Garnett fouled before the shot.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Kobe is playing like his legacy is on the line.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Garnett gets the basket and the foul! 1 Celtic against 3 Lakers.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Kobe is 3-16 so far. He must be playing for John Starks' Game 7 legacy, too.

    /June 17, 1994'd

    ReplyDelete
  66. I am loving the 3-16 from the Mamba

    TO Lakers!

    ReplyDelete
  67. @49er16 Jerry West is an all-time Laker great. He NEVER beat the Celtics in his Finals career. Kobe shouldn't worry about his stupid legacy.

The Lakers can't hit the ocean let alone the basket right now.

    It's the Celtics Curse.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Fun fact of the evening: the AVG transaction ticket price for this game was $1091

they are sure getting their money's worth

    ReplyDelete
  69. On cue with the John Starks reference from Mark Jackson.

    /Hacks thinking alike'd

    ReplyDelete
  70. there might be a riot inside Staples before this game ends

    ReplyDelete
  71. Is there any possible way this Game 7 is worse than the Pistons-Spurs 81-74 snooze fest 5 years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  72. @RJBO well, i've switched to Parks and Rec on NBC

    /shoots self

    ReplyDelete
  73. Too bad the College World Series hasn't started. I'd be watching that instead.

    /PING!

    ReplyDelete
  74. @RJBO The only thing this game has isthe rivalry component. Bad basketball for the NBA Finals. 51-45 in the middle of the 3rd is awful offense.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jackson: "We have ourselves a Game 7!"
Dude, it's 51-45. Including a burst by the Lakers. Bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I blame the Celtics "keep the game in the 80s" offensive philosophy. I'd rather see Lebron and the Cavs...did I just say that?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Let's be clear: I could care less how exciting my team plays, as long as they win (to explain away the 2004-05 Pistons). Not having a horse in this race, it's Basketball Sominex.

So boring, ABC had to do yet another celebrity watch.

    ReplyDelete
  78. "Not the prettiest of games" --Breen

    ReplyDelete
  79. Is Andy Garcia impersonating Groucho Marx?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Refs aren't calling any fouls on jump shots, that doesn't help the offenses.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "The Bank is Open Late!"

    /Brando'd

    ReplyDelete
  82. This is the best UCLA-Boston College game ever.

    /sarcasm'd

    ReplyDelete
  83. They let everything go all night, and then they call that?

    ReplyDelete
  84. This is worse than Game 7 of the 1994 finals

    ReplyDelete
  85. JVG: "This is one of the most poorly played games you'll ever see from the offensive side." Agreed.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Why are the LA fans chanting "DEFENSE!"? Haven't they seen enough of it already?

    ReplyDelete
  87. "This is the one of the most poorly-played games...from an offensive standpoint but one of the hardest played from a defensive standpoint." -Van Gundy

Jeff, you were right the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  88. At least the game is close.........

    ReplyDelete
  89. This is worse than Game 7 of the 1994 finals

Someone tell Barry Sanders to start a slow speed chase.

    ReplyDelete
  90. @JFein +1,000,000 The crowd should chant "OFFENSE!".

    ReplyDelete
  91. Jackie Moon just threw up a brick for the celtics

    ReplyDelete
  92. 57-53 (after 3 QTR) is a good halftime score.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well, either Kobe or a bunch of Massholes are gonna be really sad. I can live with either.

    /the NBA is faaaannnnnnntastic

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lakers got back into the game after they were down double-digits as we (okay, me) worry about the crappy play.

    ReplyDelete
  95. THE LEAD IS DOWN TO 2!

    /excitement in low doses'd

    ReplyDelete
  96. Kobe can't even flop correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I am going to break my brain trying to figure out what's a foul and what isn't

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jackson: "Anytime you (JVG) say something, that means I'm right."

    ReplyDelete
  99. did Mark Jackson just call something "easy offense?"

    ReplyDelete
  100. This game makes me miss those Heat/Knicks games from the 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm guessing Kobe found out Jordan Farmar is banging his mom?

    /sorry JFein

    ReplyDelete
  102. Artest, basket and the foul! Tie game. At least, it's close.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm done. The refs clearly have the Lakers.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Gasol at the line, misses both! Lakers can't hit field goals or free throws!

    ReplyDelete
  105. @ Keith: A belated congratulations on picking up Samuel Dalembert!

You'll enjoy his many foul outs.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Fisher! Finally, somebody hits an outside shot.

    ReplyDelete
  107. The refs have let this one get away from them

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think Doc Rivers wants "MOVEMENT! MOVEMENT! MOVEMENT!" offensively for the Celts.

    ReplyDelete
  109. If I could, I'd bet everything on the Lakers winning by 8 or 9

    ReplyDelete
  110. I can't watch anymore. Celtics gagging.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Jackson: "Kobe's saying 'I'm gonna roll these dice and I better not crap out.'"

    ReplyDelete
  112. Kobe gets 1 basket in an otherwise horrible game for him and all of a sudden he is a Superman?

/This game is an embarrassment to nature

    ReplyDelete
  113. Kobe with 2 FTs, defensive rebound, and basket on successive possessions.

    He's taking over.

Garnett or Rondo need to do something for the C's, they're the only ones who haven't stunk tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  114. @JFein

    The NBA it's FAAAAAANNNNNNNNTASTIC!

    ReplyDelete
  115. How is that a foul???????????

    ReplyDelete
  116. Breen: "What do the Celtics do for offense?"
JVG: "They need Larry Bird out there."

    9-0 Lakers run.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Let's give Kobe the MVP for his 15 rebounds!

    /shoots self

    ReplyDelete
  118. Finally a shot goes down for Pierce & the Cs.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Pierce! Finally somebody hits for Boston. /Trying to be enthuiastic

    ReplyDelete
  120. Who else will they give the MVP to? Ron Artest?

Kobe's been awful but he deserves the award if they win tonight.

This is also the worst game in Finals history.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Garnett with the jam! That's the best play I've seen all night.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Tweet from Down Goes Brown: "
Celtics: In hindsight, the halftime "How to finish when you have the lead" guest lecture by the Bruins may have been a mistake."

    ReplyDelete
  123. Whether it's justified or not, the Boston fans will have a field day with the officiating.

    Dumb foul by Pierce.

    ReplyDelete
  124. SMH

someone check the FT disparity this Quarter

    ReplyDelete
  125. If I could, I'd bet everything on the Lakers winning by 8 or 9

The refs are doing everything to make that come true. The Lakers are doing everything to prevent it.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm calling it now, Celts can't come back. It stinks that the game has been so bad offensively. The rest of the games in the series were good.

    ReplyDelete
  127. @SSR

the Lakers horrific FT % is the only thing keeping this game semi-interesting

    ReplyDelete
  128. Believe it or not, one of these teams will call themselves champions by the end of the night.

    /Pathetic

    ReplyDelete
  129. Boston has pressed the self destruct button.
