1st Down- Week 10

New England 34 Indianapolis 35: I thought Bill Belichick was suppose to be the smartest man in the room? Then why did Belichick decide to go for it on 4th and 2 from his own 28 yard line with 2:08 left in the game? That's not what I would call a smart decision, especially since Peyton Manning is the opposing quarterback. Well we all know how the game ended. Manning drove the Colts down the field and threw a touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne. Game over, thanks for choking the game away Hoodie.

Philadelphia 23 San Diego 31: I could recap this game for you, but I'm boring compared to Justin from Fire Andy Reid Now!. So let Justin recap the Eagles loss to San Diego.

Not so fast. Thanks to horrible coaching by the master of it, Andy Reid truly did win the Battle of Inept Coaching. Being way too passive early in the game including not running a QB sneak during a 3-play series of down and goal at the 1 and then not going for it on 4th down despite never losing yards combined with early failed redzone conversions and other field goal attempts when the Eagles should have gone for it on 4th down resulted in the live blog.

Make no mistake about it, they deserved to lose that game. But make no mistake about it, they damn sure should have won it. The Chargers and Norv got completely passive on defense at the end of the game by playing a soft zone instead of bringing what was effective in the first couple of drives when the Eagles could not move the ball for the life of them.

Reid blew what would have been two critical timeouts in the 2nd half. And while the offense eventually got a rhythm, the Eagles 4-minute defense is just deplorable. They could not get the stop last week against Dallas and they failed to do so again until much too late this week against San Diego. As much as I hate to say it, the Eagles really do miss Jim Johnson.

Another thing they need to do: avoid penalties. Penalties killed so many drives that game it is not even funny. Bad discipline will kill you each and every single time, especially when you play as inconsistent as the Eagles like to do.

Just a terrible coaching performance by Reid wasting a stellar performance by Jason Avant who channeled his inner Miles Austin and and a very good performance by Donovan McNabb who despite early struggles, threw for 450 yards and did not make any major mistakes.
Denver 17 Washington 27: Remember when Denver was 6-0 and Josh McDaniels was proclaimed a genius? Well since then, Denver has lost three in a row and are all of a sudden tied in the AFC West with San Diego. Lost in the fact that Denver is on a three game skid, is that Washington actually won a game. Sure it did take this crazy fake field goal attempt to win the game, but still. Washington won a game!

Dallas 7 Green Bay 17: So the old dog still has his legs. Charles Woodson forced two fumbles and picked off Tony Romo in Green Bay's win against Dallas. Green Bay was able to keep their season alive by controlling the clock for 35 minutes and holding Dallas to only 278 of total offense. Aaron Rodgers though was still sacked four times in the game.

Buffalo 17 Tennessee 41: Chris Johnson is a beast, that's all.

Cincinnati 18 Pittsburgh 12: There was only one touchdown in this entire game. One. And that was on a kick return. Other than that, this was a defensive battle that saw neither team have more than 230 total yards on offense and one turnover. In the end the Bengals beat Pittsburgh for the second time this season and has effectively won the AFC North.

This is what happens when I try to type up a post while I'm running a live blog and watching the end of the Cowboys-Packers and Seahawks-Cardinals game.

That should say "resulted in the loss", by the way. I'm surprised no one caught that (or if you did, didn't say anything)

    Thanks for the compliments! ;-)

And I love how through no-doing of his own, Andy Reid somehow looked like a genius by the end of the night.

  3. One other thing, even though the only TD of the game was a TD return, that Bengals-Steelers game was actually a very entertaining game. It was an 18-12 game that felt nothing like it.

  4. @JFein, there were also several spelling errors, but I corrected them ;-)

  5. @ 49er16: The only thing worse than my lazy proof-reading when it comes to my blog is when I type up a post as I'm paying to other things just as much as that. ;-)

To everyone who reads my stuff, my grammar and knowledge of the English language is better than my blog makes it out to be! ;-)
