College Football Open Thread: Week 8

Week 8 is here, but I don't know how much I will be. See I have to go to my job around Noon today, and I'm not sure how long I will be at work today. I'm going to try and update this thread as much as possible today. Just try and be patient.

Now because I'm not going to be here doesn't mean you can't leave comments or announcer quotes. Feel free to discuss the college football action right here today. Here's your Announcing schedule and the Must List.

Mourning Games:
- Here's the mascot head Corso wore today. You can't tell me there is an uglier mascot head than the TCU one.

- Gameday got a little crazy today. Between Corso and legendary BYU coach Levell Edwards having a mascot head showdown and this little number. The Gameday guys were talking about Arkansas when Corso said this, "Arkansas, "Blew their wad." Naturally Kirk couldn't stop laughing and we had one awkward moment.

- Baylor went on a 10 play drive and only picked up 11 yards. You can't make this stuff up.

- Terrelle Pryor hasn't completely sucked today. He's thrown a touchdown and just ran one in. He ran the read option play perfectly, proving his high school coach actually has a clue. Maybe Tressel will actually start using that play more often..........

Check out this hit from the Virginia-Georgia Tech game. A Georgia Tech player destroys a Virginia punt returner, then recoveres the fumble. Also listen to Doc Walker because he sounds almost like Dusty Rhodes.

Afternoon Games:
- Everything is right in the world again. For a second there I thought you really could ride a Rainbow on a Unicorn. Then Jonathon Crompton threw an interception and I knew I was back knocked back into reality.

- Watching this Alabama-Tennessee game is reminding me of a boring Big Ten game. Both teams run a pro-style offense and both defenses have been shutting down each other's offenses. 6-3 Alabama with 6:47 to go in the 1st half.

- 9-3 Alabama at half, in a offensive struggle. Both teams suck in the red zone. I'm not so sure Alabama is a good as I thought they were.

-13-9 Notre Dame over Boston College at halftime. It's at least not raining in South Bend, so Chuck Weis doesn't look like a drowned Polar Bear.

- Despite the rain, Penn State is beating Michigan 32-10 in the 3rd quarter. It's too bad Penn State didn't look this good against Iowa.

- Despite Jonathon Crompton's best efforts, Alabama was still able to beat Tennessee 12-10. Alabama blocked the Tennessee attempted game-winning field goal. Jay and myself noticed Lane Kiffin starting to celebrate on the sidelines before they attempted the kick. You had to know that was going to bite him in the ass.

Night Games:

- It's already 14-0 TCU over BYU in the 1st quarter. BYU doesn't have enough speed to compete with TCU. Besides this game, there really isn't a very interesting game on. So I probably won't update the thread as much as usual.

Check out the unbelievable ending to the Clemson-Miami game. Clemson won the game in overtime.

21-7 TCU over BYU at half. BYU went for it on 4th and goal and scored their first touchdown of the game.

- Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be watching UFC 104 for the rest of the night. Feel free to still leave comments on the games you are watching or leave comments on UFC 104 if you are watching it.

  2. Minnesota punted from the OSU 35 yard line. Cowards!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Pryor looking good so far.......

    /waits for a Pryor INT

    ReplyDelete
  4. Pryor drives OSU to Minny's 10 yard line, can't convert for the TD, then OSU misses the Field Goal. Anyone else have the feeling Ohio State is going to lose?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Minnesota keeps beating themselves in this game against OSU. Now they fumbled and OSU recovered.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't know why I'm punishing myself by watching Minnesota vs. Ohio State.

I guess I'm just a gluton for punishment.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Coach-Player fight on the Minnesota sidelines.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Kirk is so mature.

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Jay- I'm with you. For some reason I can't stop watching the OSU-Minny game.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Touchdown Ole Miss, 14-0 Ole Miss

I guess Arkansas really did blow their wad?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Whoa! Pryor actually threw a touchdown instead of a interception.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Keith- The receiver still had to slow down to catch the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Watching Pryor play quarterback makes me want to go back to bed and cry in a pillow.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Fowler also said on Gameday that TCU or BYU (not sure which one he meant) uses that the school has a 60 % female popualtion as a recruiting tool.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm pretty sure he meant BYU. Those Mormon boys love to marry early.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey Pryor actually ran in a touchdown.

    SHOCKING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Where is AA today with the Pammies? I have some excellent quotes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Duke is beating Maryland 7-3. Maybe AA and also kt1000 are drinking together?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Some announcer goodness from GA Tech / UVA:

"Throw it to soggy Hoggy" - Steve MArtin to sideline reporter Mike Hogewood pouring at UVA

"They fall forward" - Martin on GT's running game

"Watch the rejection here" - Doc Walker as GT's Jonathan Dwyer breaks a tackle

"Go to the unbalanced side, walk the dog"- Walker as GT scores a TD

    ReplyDelete
  20. Can't go a week without a good Doc Walker quote.

    ReplyDelete
  21. AA might be at JMU game, or on Zorn fire watch

    ReplyDelete
  22. AA is probably at the Redskins headquarters with his pitch fork.

Just leave your quotes here until AA puts up the Pammy thread.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "That's a phone booth fight."-Spielman

"I would hit you in the knees."-Pasch

    "Where's Juan Pablo Montoya."-Spielman

    "Eating a taco."-Griese

    ReplyDelete
  24. @49er16

Pro: Gameplan still lets me experience Doc Walker rambling since I dont live in ACC market anymore.

Con: Endless Sportscenter promos instead of the locally produced commercials

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't live in ACC country or have Gameplan, so I've never experienced a Doc Walker game. I guess I'm not missing much.

    ReplyDelete
  26. AA must have heard us. He's put up the Pammy thread.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "You want to win you gotta score a TD" - Doc Walker, UVA currently trials 20-6

    ReplyDelete
  28. Adam Webber's regression is Juice Williams-like.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pryor runs for a touchdown, but the Ohio State receiver is cuaght holding.

    Only at Ohio State.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tressel teaches a football class at Ohio State.

What does he teach? What not to do with a five-star recruit?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pryor having a nice game. Too bad it's against Minnesota.

    ReplyDelete
  32. its 20-9 GT in the 4th qtr

and trust me a Doc Walker game has to be heard to be believed...

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Keith rough night last night...;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know the feeling. I'm dragging ass right now as well.

I'm about ready though to grab some lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anthony Allen TD run 26-9 GT

how in the hell did these guys lose to Miami?

    ReplyDelete
  36. @kt, I have no idea.

Did you see that Tech drive that lasted 10 minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  37. For some reason I've been hypnotized by this Minnesota-Ohio State game. I want to turn the channel, but I can't.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Jay sticking with a Big 10 ESPN game is always a bad move

@Keith no, but it's all these announcers are talking about. hope you get some good food!

it looks like Jonathan Dwyer isn't hurt that badly

    ReplyDelete
  39. I saw that 10 min drive, it was dominating. Just announced GT has had ball for 16 of 20 minutes in 2nd half

    ReplyDelete
  40. All right, I'm going to grab some lunch. Hold down the fort for me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ohio State scored again. Once again though they are playing Minnesota. If this was Penn State or Michigan, it might actually mean something.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Paul Johnson just channeled his inner Bellicheat. 40 yd pass leading 27-9, 7 min left in 4th

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maryland is losing to Duke 10-6 at halftime. If they go down, they shouldn't be alowed back into College Park with out firing Ralph Friedgen and OC James Franklin

    ReplyDelete
  44. @kt1000 11:57

Completely agree, I suffered thru the Vanderlinden / Duffner era, so I know how bad it can get. Time to unplug the Fridge.

    Rushing Yds: GT 320 , UVA 30

    ReplyDelete
  45. @jgreul my freshman year at UMD was Vanderlinden's first year. I still remember the speech he gave at our orientation, promising to be ACC Champs by the time we graduated. He was only off by 6 months.

if this satellite stays out, then it looks like i'm to the local pub...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Its a final at Charlottesville: 34-9 GT

    ReplyDelete
  47. UConn 24 the hillbillies from WVU 21

    ReplyDelete
  48. what a run by Noel Divine! somehow he
managed to not go out of bounds

    TD WVU

    ReplyDelete
  49. UConn returns the kick to the 47...they have a real shot

    ReplyDelete
  50. This UConn-WVU game has actually been the best game today so far.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Fumble recovered by UConn back at the WVU 44...3rd and long

    ReplyDelete
  52. Interception and WVU ball. Game over.

    ReplyDelete
  53. terrible ending for UConn....

and the satellite is down again

    this is frustrating...

    ReplyDelete
  54. and here we go with Tennesse-Alabama

    ReplyDelete
  55. my god it looks like the booth in Alabama is located on the goal line. what an awful spot to do a game from.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow! I just realized that too kt. That is a horrible spot to call the game.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TD Duke on 4th and Goal at the 2...

    17-6 5:35 in the 3rd

    Fire Ralph Friedgen Now!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I see Maryland is going through the same situation as Florida State. Plus with the coach in waiting doesn't make that situation any easier.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Alabama is trying to cheat by shutting off the Tennessee head sets.

    ReplyDelete
  60. it so looks like Monte Kiffin is actually the coach of Tennessee and Lane is a low-level assistant.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Laney looks like he just graduated high school.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Keith the coach in waiting at MD is a big part of the reason the team is so bad..the offense has gone from an option-pass mix to pure west coast offense.

    Touchdown Maryland Devin Meggett!

    67 yards on the screen

    17-13

    ReplyDelete
  63. From Dan Wetzel's twitter account.

"Tennessee's Smokey the dog almost bit a Bama cheerleader's leg in pregame festivities. He has a better eye for talent than Steve Phillips"

    ReplyDelete
  64. Steve Phillips will be a punchline for the rest of his life...

Tennessee actually looking good at the start of this game

    ReplyDelete
  65. Too bad Tennessee has to play offense.

    ReplyDelete
  66. end of the 3rd Quarter at Durham...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Maryland recovers a Duke fumble at the 1!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Everything is right in the world again. Crompton throws an INT.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jason Bristol has a weird obsession with the word "BOOM!"...

Bloomsburg 21, Shippensburg 13 at halftime.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Now a JFein sighting? What in the world is going on?

    3-0 Alabama

    ReplyDelete
  71. great time for a pick Turner...it is unbelievable that Maryland is about to lose to Duke

    ReplyDelete
  72. I can't believe the way Tennessee has driven down the field on Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Crompton overthrows his receiver. Tenn has to settle for the field goal.

    3-3 all

    ReplyDelete
  74. and the Maryland returner muffs the punt and the Dookies recover...Duke will win 17-13

    /when does basketball season start?
//FIRE RALPH FRIEDGEN AND JAMES FRANKLIN NOW!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. the only thing that is going to calm me down after that abortion is pizza and beer...later

    ReplyDelete
  76. Will the basketball team be any good this season, kt?

Also 6-3 Alabama in a snoozefest.

    ReplyDelete
  77. 3-2 Notre Dame in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Notre Dame once again goes with the fake field goal and scores. But wait.......holding on Notre Dame. No touchdown.

Notre Dame has to attempt the field goal again.

The field goal is good. 6-2 Notre Dame in the top of the 4th inning.

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ 49er16: I've been running around like a mad man doing a shit load of errands that need to be done at home.

    ReplyDelete
  80. 14-0 Cal over Washington State just seven minutes into the game.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "4 fingers are up, but this one will decide the index finger. Who will be number one in the PSAC?" - Jason Bristol as we head to the 4th quarter. 24-21 Bloomsburg over Shippensburg.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Washington State is really bad.

21-0 Cal in the 1st quarter still.

    ReplyDelete
  83. 28-3 Cal, still in the 1st quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Notre Dame scores right before halftime. 13-9 Notre Dame

    ReplyDelete
  85. 35-3 Cal over Wazzu barely the start of the 2nd quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Jeez! 35-3 Cal? Where was that team against Oregon and USC? Or is Wazzu that bad?

    ReplyDelete
  87. It's more Wazzu being that bad, compared to Cal's offense being that good.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Where's JFein?

Penn State is handling Michigan quite well.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Touchdown Penn State!!!!

32-10 Penn State. Where was this team against Iowa?

    ReplyDelete
  90. The Tennessee-Alabama game is a snoozefest.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Fuck!!! My Huskies lost!!! ;-(

Down by 6, Shipp had a long drive that included a 4th and 13 conversion that ended in a touchdown with less than a minute left giving Shipp a 28-27 left. Penalties killed us on that last drive.

Bloom drove to the 50 yard line with 11 seconds where inexplicably instead of throwing a 15-20 yard pass to get in FG range (we have one of the best kickers in D-2 and he can get 50-yarders), LaTorre threw it down the field instead for an incompletion. At this point, my satellite signal went out so I can't tell you exactly what happened on the last play with 4 seconds left, but I've checked the internet and I turned on a radio stream and it's official.

    Shipp 28, Bloom 27.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Unlike the FBS where something like that would be deadly, D2 does have a playoff and we are either 1st or 2nd now in the conference (it's been awhile since I saw the standings) so all hope is not lost. We lost a game last year and still made it to the national quarterfinals where we lost a game we should have won.

@ Jay: Suck it, Forcier! Suck it, Rich Rod! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yankees game is postponed. Phillies now have to wait longer for their next opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Watching Crompton destroy this drive for Tennessee is funny is a sick sort of way.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yeah! Notre Dame is back, that's why they are struggling against Boston College.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Game 6 of the ALCS is postponed.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091024&content_id=7540048&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oof. Jay beat me to it big time.

/That what happens when I don't refresh the thread.

    ReplyDelete
  98. GBWAHHHAAAHAHAHA

suck it Clausen with your 2 inch veritcal

    ReplyDelete
  99. @JFein

will Fox push a Game 7 to 4 in the PM so they don't have to postpone "So You Think You Can Dance?"

    ReplyDelete
  100. @kt, they will play that game at the same time as Sunday Night Football.

    ReplyDelete
  101. HEY CHARLIE YOU FAT TUB OF GOO

Clausen is your best offensive player, why the hell is there a Wildcat in the playbook, much less on the field?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Notre Dame was just stuffed on a 4the and Goal.

    16-13 Boston College

    ReplyDelete
  103. @ Keith... i was asking about Monday, if the Angels win

    ReplyDelete
  104. man that was some stick by #8 of BC on that 4th and Goal to prevent that TD

    ReplyDelete
  105. If Matt Ryan was still playing at BC, they would be beating Notre Dame by 30.

    ReplyDelete
  106. way too conservative right there by the Eagles

    ReplyDelete
  107. The Utah / Air Force (VS) and Clemson /Miami games are pretty good also.

A player from Clemson just popped lost ball and his helmet. He appears to be OK.

Added bonus: Utah /AF sideline reporter Lindsay Soto

    ReplyDelete
  108. @Jay 3:38 that is so true

/saw Matty Ice destroy them in 07 at Notre Dame

    ReplyDelete
  109. @ kt: From what I've seen thus far, Game 7 is at 7:57 PM ET on Monday. So in other words, Rupert, Lythgoe, and Fox are praying for a Yankees win tomorrow.

    Sunday's game is at 8:20.

    ReplyDelete
  110. oh that should have been picked..but Golden Tate takes it in for a ND TD

    ReplyDelete
  111. Touchdown Notre Dame, 20-16

And Jimmy Clausen is still one of the uggliest people I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  112. @49er16

Only saw from waist up suit jacket and turtleneck. Made AF Coach Troy Calhoun sound like an idiot at halftime.

Hell I think Doug Flutie could come out of retirement and beat ND by 30

    ReplyDelete
  113. 20-16 ND 8:12 left

@JFein thanks! and yes the Fox Network have all of the sudden become huge Yankee fans

    ReplyDelete
  114. @jgreul-Thanks, I was hoping for the same attire she wore during the Sharks-Ducks series.

    ReplyDelete
  115. not a very good drive by the Eagles

    ReplyDelete
  116. And BC just blew their load.

    /Corso'd

And Tennessee is down by 2 with 1:19 left and they just recovered the onside kick.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Utah / AF tied at 16, going to OT

Slow news day: FOX News Channel just ran piece on Philly Phanatic

    ReplyDelete
  118. will Tom Hammond please shut up and stop yammering about the beautiful Notre Dame campus?

    ReplyDelete
  119. 2nd and 15 for Tennessee also known as 2nd and Crompton.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Tennessee is in field goal range.

    ReplyDelete
  121. what a catch by Stocker the TE!! Tennessee is going to have a chance here...

    ReplyDelete
  122. Here we go. Tennessee is going to attempt a game-winning field goal.

    ReplyDelete
  123. i'm having uncomfortable flashbacks to last Sunday...

    ReplyDelete
  124. Kiffin is starting to celebrate a little early.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Holy crap.....Tennessee may just beat Alabama.....

    ReplyDelete
  126. @kt1000

From what I've ND's campus isnt that nice and South Bend is a dump

    ReplyDelete
  127. Would Saban really use all of his timeouts?

    ReplyDelete
  128. ALABAMA WINS!!!!

I TOLD YOU KIFFIN WAS STARTING TO CELEBRATE EARLY.

    ReplyDelete
  129. IT'S BLOCKED AND ALABAMA WINS!!!!!!

Meanwhile, I think Verne Lundquist had a heart attack or something in the booth...

    ReplyDelete
  130. @jgreul 3:56 i've been to 4 games at Notre Dame Stadium...their campus is better than Maryland's, but that ain't saying much.

    ReplyDelete
  131. @Jay, Kiffin gets what he deserves. I also saw him celebrating on the sideline before the kick.

You know he was thinking to himself, "OMG, were going to beat Alabama. My mommy and daddy are going to be so proud."

    ReplyDelete
  132. in the meantime, BC just got picked...

    ReplyDelete
  133. BC intercepts Clausen!!

unbelievable...that is probably going to be overturned

    ReplyDelete
  134. well, BC is going to have a chance

    ReplyDelete
  135. After this game, I'm going to watch a little bit of the Sharks game.

    ReplyDelete
  136. seriously, NBC??? Wazzou v Notre Dame in primetime??? was Bloomsburg not available???

    /sorry JFein

    ReplyDelete
  137. "Lindsay Soto told us they got the double stack working" - analyst at Utah / AF after Utah scores TD

    ReplyDelete
  138. IT'S CAUGHT!!! AND BOSTON COLLEGE PICKS UP THE 1ST DOWN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  139. CAUGHT!! GANNELL!! 30 yards on 4th and 17

    ReplyDelete
  140. Now pass interference on Notre Dame.

Chuck might eat the whole cow after this game.

    ReplyDelete
  141. BC calls their last timeout

    1:45 to go

    ReplyDelete
  142. And Chuck uses his voodoo doll in the nick of time.

    ReplyDelete
  143. omg!! what a terrible throw by Shinskie...

/well that puts the cap on a terrible afternoon of football

    ReplyDelete
  144. Sharks actually score first! 1-0 Sharks

    ReplyDelete
  145. Utah beats AF 23-16, Clemson and the U going to OT

    ReplyDelete
  146. i guess Dave Lamont has no idea how college OT works

he also has no idea of a PGA playoff either

    ReplyDelete
  147. MLB Network is showing Blue Jays-Phillies 93 World Series highlights.

Sean McDonough called Joe Morgan's home run.

    ReplyDelete
  148. @Keith

    you mean Joe Carter

none of these night games do anything for me, so goodnight all!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Yeah, Joe Carter. I either need a nap or a drink.......

    ReplyDelete
  150. WTF ?

Erin Andrews is wearing a heavier coat in Mississippi than Lindsay Soto was in Utah.

And the miserable sports day continues, Caps losing to Isles, after the Twerps losing to Puke.

    ReplyDelete
  151. 2-0 Sharks as TCU and BYU kick off. That's the game that I will be watching for the rest of the night.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Touchdown TCU

7-0 TCU in the 1st quarter

    ReplyDelete
  153. Touchdown TCU, 14-0 TCU

I hate to say this, but TCU is better than Boise State.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Capitals still down 1-0. Theodore is in net, so might be better off w/ 6 skaters and empty net

    ReplyDelete
  155. 3-1 Sharks, but it should be 4-1. The refs took away a goal from Patty Marleau when he clearly scored.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Now it's 4-1 Sharks as Patty scored this time.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Now it's 21-0 TCU.

    Good bye Mormons.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Florida struggles in the red zone, but sure can score from 20 yards out.

    ReplyDelete
  159. BYU has finally scored.

21-7 TCU with a minute remaining in the half.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Heck of a gamble to go for it on 4th and goal. That was a Spurrier-esque call there.

Caps down 1-0 end of 2nd. This isnt early 80s, Isles are supposed to lose

    ReplyDelete
  161. When did Brian Griese start calling college football games?

    ReplyDelete
  162. @ Jay: He started this year and has been doing some sporadic games. I have not heard a whole lot of him, but from what little I've heard and read about his performances in the booth, he's gotten good write-ups.

    ReplyDelete
  163. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Tonight, I am officially a Mississippi State fan....

    ReplyDelete
  165. Mississippi State has tied the game at 13.

    ReplyDelete
  166. 31-7 TCU

Again I hate to say it, but I think TCU is better than BYU.

    ReplyDelete
  167. @JFein, the guy that was crying did beat a big Dutch guy like Mat.

    ReplyDelete
