1st Down: Week 2

1st Down is a recap of the NFL action from every Sunday.

23 San Francisco 10 Seattle: Frank Gore single handily won the game for the 49ers. Gore broke off an 79-yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter. Then Gore broke off an 80-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Gore joined Barry Sanders as the only running backs in NFL history to have two 79-yard plus in one game. Now the game next week between the 49ers and Vikings seems to be pretty interesting now. Matt Hasselbeck injured his ribs in the game.

48 New Orleans 22 Philadelphia: I seriously thought the Eagles could intercepted Drew Brees a couple times in this game before this game started. Well Brees threw an interception in the game, but he also threw three touchdowns. Brees torched the Eagles defense for 311 yards. Kevin Kolb didn't do that bad of job filling in for an injured Donovan McNabb, but he did throw three interceptions.

31 Cincinnati 24 Green Bay: Despite throwing two early interceptions, Carson Palmer lead the Bengals to the victory in Green Bay. Palmer threw three touchdowns and ran for another. Chad OchoCinco lived up to his work and did the Lambeau Leap after he caught a touchdown.

16 New York Jets 9 New England: Rex Ryan and the Jets talked a bunch of junk before the game and they lived up to those words. The Jets defense held New England without a touchdown and held Tom Brady to 216 yards passing, no touchdowns, and one interception. Mark Sanchez continued his impressive start with 163 passing yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

31 Baltimore 26 San Diego: You can tell Norv Turner was the San Diego coach in this game. Phillip Rivers torched the great Baltimore defense for over 400 yards and the Chargers still lost the game. Joe Flacco threw for two touchdowns and Willis McGahee ran for two touchdowns.

34 Houston 31 Tennessee: This game was a shootout until the forth quarter. Both teams combined for 31 points in the first three quarters. Matt Schaub drove the Texans down the field in the 4th quarter which set up a Kris Brown game-winning touchdown. Schaub threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns in the game.

17 Chicago 14 Pittsburgh: One week after throwing four interceptions, Jay Cutler settled down and threw two touchdowns and no interceptions against Pittsburgh. Cutler's most defining moment of the game is when he lead the Bears down the field to set up the Robbie Gould game-winning field goal.

33 New York Giants 31 Dallas: This game made no sense to me. The Giants were never that great in the game, but they still came out of JerryWorld with the victory. Dallas ran over the Giants defense for 251 rushing yards, but they put the ball in Tony Romo's hands to make big plays. And Romo once again choked. Romo threw three interceptions in the game and one that was really bad. This all led to a Giants last minute drive that lead to a game-winning field goal.

Create a Caption: I hate to quote Skip Bayless, but you can't blame Jessica for this one.

  1. When people look at the stats for this game, it will be utterly forgotten that 2 of those 3 Kolb interceptions came in the 3rd quarter when the game was well out of hand.
