1st Down- My Heart Can Only Take So Much

1st Down is a recap of the NFL weekend.

Minnesota 27 San Francisco 24: My heart can only take so much pain. First the Giants completely quit on the year. Cal gets rolled by Oregon on Saturday and now this. With the Vikings down by 4, with the clock winding down and no timeouts, Brett Favre hit Greg Lewis for a 32-yard touchdown to win the game. This was after the Niners had come back from behind to take the lead. The Niners played a great game and that was after losing Frank Gore after the first play of the game.

19 Detroit 14 Washington: Detroit has finally won their first game since 2007. Washington actually had more net yards than Detroit in the gain, but they couldn't score. Matthew Stafford threw for 241 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. Reports coming from both Peter King and Adam Schefter have confirmed that Washington will not fire Jim Zorn just yet.

23 Cincinnati 20 Pittsburgh: Don't look now, but the Bengals are 2-1 while the Steelers are 1-2. Carson Palmer lead Cincinnati on a 16-play, 71 yard drive to beat Pittsburgh. On the drive the Bengals converted two fourth down's. Then with time running out, Palmer hit Andre Caldwell for a 4-yard touchdown pass. With the Steelers dominating the 1st half, Ben Roethlisberger threw a interception to Jonathan Joseph who ran it in for a touchdown to start the 2nd half.

24 New York Jets 17 Tennessee: Let the Mark Sanchez hype go into overdrive. Sanchez threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Jets go to 3-0 and Tennessee goes to 0-3 on the season. You have to ask, when does Tennessee go back to Vince Young? I said at the beginning of the year that Kerry Collins never has back-to-back solid season. And in this game against New York, Collins threw two interceptions.

26 New England 10 Atlanta: This game was more about New England's defense and running game, than it was about Tom Brady. Brady only threw one touchdown pass in the game. Old man Fred Taylor ran for 105 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots. The Patriots defense then held Atlanta to a touchdown, field goal, and held the offense to only 257 yards.

34 Baltimore 3 Cleveland: Not much to report here other than the Browns really stink. Also Eric Mangini might not make it a year in Cleveland. With grievances and criticism pointing directly at Mangini to go along with a 0-3 start, the Manginus might be out of work again. Oh yeah, Brady Quinn isn't your answer at quarterback. Not with a 6 for 8, 34 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception performance. And Derek Anderson proved that he isn't much better by throwing three interceptions.

31 Indianapolis 10 Arizona: Peyton Manning carved up the Arizona defense for 379 yards and four touchdowns. In total, the Colts had 505 total net yards against the Cardinals sending them to a 1-2 record on the season. Kurt Warner passed for over 300 yards, but was sacked four times and he also threw two interceptions.

34 Philadelphia 14 Kansas City: The way people talked about this game so far, you would have thought Michael Vick scored all 34 points by himself. Vick though only played a couple of plays and threw two incompletions. Kevin Kolb has finally proved the Eagles and Andy Reid right with performance Sunday throwing for 327 yards, 2 touchdowns and one running touchdown. Kansas City only had 196 total yards in the game.

23 Denver 3 Raiders: Jay Cutler? The Broncos are 3-0 and lead the AFC West without Culter. So they may have caught a break in Cincinnati and a break in the schedule, that doesn't matter at this point. And thing that is most surprising about this team is that their Mike Nolan lead defense has carried them. The Raiders offense is flat terrible, starting with quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Russell was sacked more time in the 2nd half(3) than he had passing yards(1). And that doesn't even count the two interceptions he threw in the 1st half. And from all reports, Raiders fans are not too happy with Mr. Russell.

1 comment:

  1. Russell sucks and the Raiders will do nothing about it.
