Via LA Times:Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games starting today, The Times has learned. As a Giants fan this made my day, as a baseball fan I am disappointed.
The test result and suspension is expected to be announced later today. The Dodgers informed triple-A outfielder Xavier Paul this morning that he was being promoted to Los Angeles.
Ramirez has arguably been the greatest right-handed hitter in the past 20 years. When Bonds, Clemens, and Rodriguez were caught using steroids, you could always say Manny never did. It was always Manny being Manny. He was a freak as a hitter. It was impossible to pitch against him. He could go low and drive one out. He could hit over his head. Manny always impressed me with his hitting.
But we are living in the steroid era, so nothing surprises me anymore.
But as a Giants fan: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

UPDATE
#According to SI, the substance Manny tested positive for was not clarified as a steroid, but definitely a banned substance.
#Ramirez is the first major star to be suspended for testing positive of a banned substance since the drug-testing went into effect in 2003.
#And once again, Jose Canseco was right.
#Baseball Prospectus says Ramirez failed the drug test during spring training.
#Ramirez could lose $7.7 million during the suspension.
#Here is a quote from the AP from Ramirez:
It's your responsibility Manny to find out what substance is banned. Now my question is, if and how long has Ramirez been taking illegal substances? And do you believe his I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons line?"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said in a statement issued by the players' union.
"Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons."
JUST MANNY BEING MANNY
