San Francisco 2 Los Angeles 0: Nothing makes me happier than the Giants beating the Dodgers. That is of course if the Giants sweep the Dodgers and that's exactly what the Giants did over the weekend. Matt Cain pitched four-hit ball over eight innings to pick up the victory. Dodger pitcher Clayton Kershaw made his fatal mistake in the sixth inning when he gave up a hit to Pat Burrell then intentionally walked Aaron Rowand. Why a pitcher would intentionally walk Aaron Rowand is a mystery to me, but I'm glad he did. The next batter Edgar Renteria ripped a double down the line scoring Burrell and Rowand. Cain, newly acquired reliever Javier Lopez, and closer Brian Wilson closed out the game and swept that blue garbage back to Los Angeles. Time to Celebrate! History will be made!
NY Mets 1 Arizona 14: It's August so it's that time of the year for the Mets to complete their epic choke jobs. Arizona's Adam LaRoche hit two home runs and drove in a career high six runs against the Mets on Sunday. Seven other Diamondbacks players drove in runs against the Mets and newly acquired Daniel Hudson picked up the win for Arizona.
Tampa Bay 3 NY Yankees 0: Big Game James Shields shut down the Yankees in 7 1/3 innings giving up no runs, four hits, and striking out 11. Newly acquired 1st baseman Lance Berkman went 0-for-4 in the game and in two games with the Yankees has gone 0-for-8.
Minnesota 4 Seattle 0: Francisco Liriano dominated the Mariners in seven innings striking out a season high 11 batters. Liriano also extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings. Jason Kubel drove in three runs and was also caught stealing. The Twins have won eights games in a row and are now only a half game back of the White Sox.
Chicago 4 Oakland 1: Gavin Floyd took a perfect game into the sixth inning before allowing four hits and one run in seven innings of work. Brent Lillibridge drove in three-runs on a triple to help the White Sox defeat Oakland. Chicago has won six out of their last seven games and are 20-2 in the last 22 games.
Ozzie Guillen Rambling: According to Ozzie, Latino players receive worse treatment from MLB teams than Asian players and he's not happy about it. "Very bad. I say, why do we have Japanese interpreters and we don't have a Spanish one. I always say that. Why do they have that privilege and we don't?" Guillen said Sunday before Chicago played the Oakland Athletics. "Don't take this wrong, but they take advantage of us. We bring a Japanese player and they are very good and they bring all these privileges to them. We bring a Dominican kid ... go to the minor leagues, good luck. Good luck. And it's always going to be like that. It's never going to change. But that's the way it is."
While I don't necessarily disagree with Ozzie, I would point out one thing to him. When a team brings in a Asian player, there's usually just one player. So of course they would receive special treatment. I'm not saying that is right, but that is what happens.
Ozzie would go on to say he's the only one teaching young Latino players to not take steroids, "I'm the only one to teach the Latinos about not to use," he said. "I'm the only one and Major League Baseball doesn't [care]. All they care about -- how many times I argue with the umpires, what I say to the media. But I'm the only one in baseball to come up to the Latino kids and say not to use this and I don't get any credit for that." Gotta love Ozzie. He's the only one! And that's where I take Ozzie less serious in the interview.
