The Roundup 3/9/2010

Bruce Weber vs. Demetri McCamey
Illinois coach Bruce Weber is an emotional guy. So when he saw his top player Demetri McCamey making dumb decisions in a game that Illinois must win, he lost his cool. And I mean he lost his cool in a psychotic type of way.

Vasquez Over Scheyer? You Better Believe It

Testudo Times makes the case that Maryland player Greivis Vasquez should be the ACC Player of the Year over Duke player Jon Scheyer. They argue that Vasquez should receive the award because he's had a better season than Scheyer. And you know what, he has had the better season. Vasquez averages more points, assists, and rebounds than Scheyer. Besides that, Vasquez deserves the award because he's more valuable to his team than Scheyer. Yeah Duke isn't as good with Scheyer but they could at least survive without. Maryland would be a mess without Vasquez. Everything revolves around him. And the team always looks to Vasquez when they need a big shot late in the game and he usually delivers. Yeah I would say Greivis Vasquez is the ACC Player of the Year.

Congrats Saint Mary's
The Saint Mary's Gaels knocked a lot of monkey's off their back against Gonzaga last night. The Gaels won the West Coast Conference for the first time since 1997. The Gaels beat the Zags for the first time in six games. And the Gaels are going back to the tournament after getting shafted last season. With the thrashing the Gaels gave to the Zags, the Gaels sent a message that they will be a tough out in the tournament. Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett told ESPN's Andy Katz that Saint Mary's would "remove all doubt" about his team in WCC tournament. And that's just what Saint Mary's did last night by punching their ticket to the tournament.

Look At The Standings And You Will See The Big Spenders
I think everyone has heard the saying, "you get what you pay for." Well that phrase really shows what it's like to play in the Big East. The three bottom feeders of the league- DePaul, Providence, St. John's- spend the least amount of money on their basketball programs. And these programs can't complain about the lack of revenue because their is no Division 1 football programs to bring in revenue. Georgetown, Villanova, and Marquette don't have FBS football teams and are doing just fine. Those bottom feeder programs are just cheap.
