Game: De facto Pac-10 Championship and a birth into the Rose Bowl
Teams: Oregon vs. Oregon State
Location: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Oregon
State Time: 9:00 PM EST
Announcers and Network: Chris Fowler, Jesse Palmer, Craig James, Erin Andrews
Favorite: (Oregon) -9
49er16's pick: Oregon
Misc: Here is everything you want to know about tonight's game.
Random Thoughts: While I think Oregon wins this game, I think them being 9 point favorites is crazy. Oregon State has just as explosive offense as Oregon and has one of the best running backs in the nation in Jacquizz Rodgers. This should be a fun game from an offensive standpoint. Of course I'm predicting that, which means this game will turn into a 10-9 snoozer.

ReplyDeleteNever scare me like that again. ;-)
FYI, I won't be around for a couple hours during the live blog on Saturday (you are still doing that, right?). At 2 ET, if plans hold, I am doing a community service project for a group that I am in. That should take only a couple of hours at most though so I should be back for the start of Tebow slupring, er, I mean the SEC Championship!
And could there be a more intense PAC-10 championship? The Oregon Civil War on a Thursday night in primetime to determine who will go to the Rose Bowl. I'm psyched.
I fixed the mistake ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah I still plan on live blogging Saturday.
As a warm-up, I'm watching Caps/Panthers and the Caps are dominating, 4-0 2nd period.
ReplyDeleteKeith, I'm disappointed, no Wizards in the NBA recap! /sarcasm'd/
ReplyDeleteHey, we've won 2 games in a row! See, miracles do occur.
Washington Wizards- Where Mediocre Happens
I spent too much time at Niners Nation arguing today.....
ReplyDeleteArguing about who sucks less?
ReplyDeleteYes, I realize my football team is worse.
Nope....I think Keith will understand what happened (if he's been there).
ReplyDelete@ SSR: Was that argument as intense as your epic battle with Joe D
ReplyDeleteBTW, Bills lead the Jets 3-0 in a NFL game in Toronto. I think curling would be more exciting than Bills/Jets.
ReplyDeleteNope. It's with a banned user from Field Gulls who keeps spouting BS about Aaron Curry and Tim Ruskell on other blogs.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Laura Okmin on WW1 Radio, Terrell Owens says the one thing he was most thankful over Thanksgiving, Ryan Fitzpatrick, the new Bills QB for this week.
ReplyDeleteDamn it. That link does not work.
ReplyDeleteLet's try it again.
Battle with Joe D
@SSR: I try to stay away from Niners Nation unless it's a game thread. Too much B.S. over there for me.
ReplyDelete@ Keith I like Niners Nation a lot. Get to talk with other guys about the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteSanchez had Cotchery wide open in the endzone and threw it high. Then, he is sacked on the next play, FG Jets. 3-3 score.
ReplyDeleteYup, I'd watch curling over this garbage.
@SSR: They don't like me, because I don't like Alex Smith as our starting QB.
ReplyDeleteI know Shaun Hill has his faults, but I was much more comfortable with him as the starting QB than Smith. Plus the Niners had to redesign their entire offense just to fit Smith and while they were doing this it hurt Frank Gore's game.
Of course though, I'm a bitter Cal fan who will never like Smith because he was drafted over Aaron Rodgers.
BTW, I will be back in about 20 minutes. I just got home and now I have to make something for dinner.
Holtz says ND can contend for a national title within a couple of years...I'm not making this shit up.
ReplyDelete@ Keith
ReplyDeleteSmith hasn't been that bad. He'll just suck this weekend.
Every week when I think that Oregon's unis could not possibly get any worse, they amazingly do.
ReplyDeleteAlso during the 2-minute drill, Rece Davis said ND is using a consulting firm to help in its search for a head coach.
ReplyDeleteMark May goes off and basically says "Do you need coordinators? We've got coordinators! Do you need special teams coaches? We've got special teams coaches!"
He also plugs 1-800-MAYDAY, his own toll-free number and MayDay Find a Coach.com, his website.
He's joking but it was funny as shit.
@ Al: Lou Holtz was sure that Notre Dame would be in the National Championship this year....
ReplyDelete@JFein: Believe or not, but those Oregon uni's are actually throwbacks from the last time they were in the Rose Bowl.
ReplyDeleteThey're still running that Momma's Boy Enterprise commercial? Why?
ReplyDelete@Al: Like Justin said, Holtz said Notre Dame would be in the NC game this year.
ReplyDeleteThat does not mean they are good unis...
ReplyDelete@JFein Low Holtz- Where Notre Dame Homerism Analysis Happens.
ReplyDeleteAlright, enough joking and channel-surfing by myself. Civil War is underway.
ReplyDeletePersonal Foul on Oregon during the opening KO! They really hate each other.
ReplyDeleteFact of randomness: If Oregon State wins, it will be OSU vs. OSU in the Rose Bowl.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I figured that out all by myself.
What's so Civil about war?
ReplyDelete/Guns n Roses'd
@JFein Nice job. You must be very proud. /sarcasm'd
ReplyDeleteOSU...I mean Oregon St. INT on the deflected pass.
I want Oregon State to win. Their coach Mike Riley is a good guy who never catches a break. They should have been in the Rose Bowl last season.
ReplyDeleteCaught at the goalline but short! 4th down!
ReplyDeleteTexas Tech upsets Washington at the buzzer. Mike Singletary wins it after U-Dub misses two FTs.
ReplyDeleteHuskies basketball teases me.
And Oregon State scores first.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I should mention that I went to high school with Oregon starting center Jordan Holmes. He's a year younger than me though, but we did play high school football together.
THEY WAIVE IT OFF! OT IN LUBBOCK!
ReplyDeleteThey go for it on 4th down and get the TD, Jacquizz Rodgers passes the test!
ReplyDeleteBasket in Lubbock is waved off, overtime.
Mike Singletary??? That's a heck of a name to have....
ReplyDelete@JFein: I thought Mookie was joking about the Mike Singletary name.
ReplyDeleteAnd just like that, Oregon is already in the red zone.
ReplyDeleteOvertime has just started in Lubbock after they cleared the floor. The students rushed the court thinking the game was over.
ReplyDeleteI was not sure.....then I saw his name pop up on the ESPN graphic saying his basket was waved off at the buzzer.
ReplyDeleteThat kid may just be my hero.
This will be a fun game. Go Oregon State!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon! Tied game.
ReplyDelete@49er16 And just like that, Oregon is already in the endzone. /Fixed
ReplyDeleteWow BDJ.
ReplyDelete"Mike Singletary" - Rece Davis
ReplyDeleteMookie was not joking. Although TTU is still leading.
That's disturbing, BDJ.
87-84 Tech w/ 2:22 left in OT.
ReplyDelete87-86 Texas Tech w/ 2:00 left.
ReplyDeleteThat could be a big stop for the Ducks.
ReplyDeleteWashington takes the lead and then Singletary gives Tech the lead again, 89-88.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Did anyone else see that girl texting before that TTU FT?
ReplyDeleteTech up 91-89 w/ a minute left.
ReplyDeleteTech steal and basket puts them up 4 w/ :30 left.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how awful this team is at shooting FTs.
ReplyDeleteGame over. Huskies will win the Pac-10 and then blow games like this.
Oregon State is going to have a long night if they can't stop Oregon's offense.
ReplyDeleteThis game is eerily similar to last year's game already.
Spec-QUACK-ular????
ReplyDeleteI have no comment.
Tech up by 6 on UW now w/ 24.6 left
ReplyDeleteTech by 3 as Pondexter scores and is fouled by Singletary, 95-92.
Mike Singletary not using his head...
Tech wins 99-92
ReplyDeleteThe court is rushed again in Lubbock and this time it counts.
ReplyDelete@JFein "and this time it counts" /Bud Selig'd and Fox'd
ReplyDeleteOregon State needs to be able to keep up with Oregon offensively or make a defensive stop. They have done neither consistently thus far and Oregon could really mount a big lead here.
ReplyDeleteAt least the Canucks are beating the Flyers.
ReplyDeleteTo say that the Ducks have all the momentum now is a gross understatement.
ReplyDeleteFire John Stevens.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Oregon State forced a punt.
ReplyDelete@JFein I can't believe I'm asking this but do you think they'd fire Stevens before the Winter Classic?
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be a showcase, in part, for the Flyers franchise on national TV but they're struggling right now.
Oh Oregon State. You just have to kill yourselves with penalties.
ReplyDelete@ Al: I don't think so. The Flyers are all behind him and I think Holmgren is as well so a firing would be unlikely before the Winter Classic.
ReplyDeleteESPN crew arguing about decimal and decibel levels.
ReplyDelete"You just nailed yourself." - Jesse Palmer to Erin Andrews
ReplyDeleteIs that really a good choice of words?
@JFein You really think they should get rid of Stevens or is that Fire Andy Reid Now talking
ReplyDeleteOSU defense has kept the Beavers in the game.
ReplyDeleteI've never had to delete so many comments in my life.
ReplyDelete@ Al: I like Stevens and I don't like him. I like the mindset and the attitude he gives to the team, but his wins and losses are just way too inconsistent. I swear this is the only team that can lose 6 in a row and then turn it around by breaking that streak and winning 7 in a row. It's truly incredible.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck is up with all of the spamming/trolling here today?
ReplyDeleteI do worry though that if they do fire John Stevens that another coach would come in unable to coach a team like this. This is a team that is built almost for Stevens and his style of coaching, another coach may not fare so well with the Flyers.
ReplyDeleteQuizz Rodgers is a man among men.
ReplyDeleteI love Quizz Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteBeavers inside the Oregon 20, 1st and 15 after a penalty though.
ReplyDeleteJP Kirby just tweeted that he thinks an NFL team would work better in Montreal than in Toronto and that really got me thinking that he might be on to something. I'm curious as to your guys thoughts on that. Maybe it's the Bills just the attendance at Rogers Centre is pretty laughable tonight.
ReplyDeleteOregon State killing themselves with penalties. Now they have to kick a field goal.
ReplyDeleteOof. That was a rough snap.
ReplyDelete14-13 Oregon.
3rd and 6...pass incomplete. 4th down, FG attempt good. 14-13 Oregon
ReplyDelete@JFein: Move the Bills there then rename them the Expos.
ReplyDeleteKICK RETURN TOUCHDOWN BUT THERE'S A FLAG!!!
ReplyDelete@JFein I'm not watching the Bills/Jets game just listening to it. I don't think an NFL team would work in Montreal at least, maybe Toronto if the CFL Argos continue to be bad.
ReplyDeleteBTW, what is up w/ the individual fan shots on ESPN tonight? Overproduced.
Another Oregon turnover and Oregon State recovery.
ReplyDeleteWow!!!! Oregon State recovers a huge fumble!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sequence, big KO return called back on a flag then a Oregon fumble recovered by OSU!
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't Oregon State using any play-action? Canefield could have picked up the first down running himself.
ReplyDeleteOh well, 16-14 Oregon State.
Another OSU FG makes it 16-14 Beavers.
ReplyDeleteSince when did the Beavers become the Phladelphia Eagles?
Masoli rumbling through the Beaver defense.
ReplyDeleteOregon inside the OSU 20
ReplyDeleteOregon is inside the 5 now.
ReplyDeleteMasoli fumbles the ball but gets it back!
ReplyDeleteSee what happens Beavs when all you do is settle for field goals?
ReplyDeleteLaMichael James, 6 yards for the TD. 21-16 Ducks!
ReplyDeleteJets lead the Bills 16-10, 5:30 left in the 3rd. Sanchez for NYJ is out w/ a right knee injury.
ReplyDeletePI on Oregon.
There are 34 bowl games...my god. What a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon State!!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon State!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Beavers! Canfield to James Rodgers w/ :14 left in the half!
ReplyDelete23-21 Beavers
Stewart Mandel Tweet:
ReplyDeleteSomewhere Tressel was watching that Oregon State drive, shouting "What are they doing???"
And with that, I will watch the beginning of the Sharks game.
Mandel stealing Verne Lundquist's lingo...WHAT ARE THEY DOING???!!!
ReplyDeleteAlready 1-0 Sharks. Heatley scores on a slap shot.
ReplyDeleteDR. LOU!!!
ReplyDeleteLou Holtz never drinks water??? How is he not dead?
ReplyDeleteOSU startng from their own 36
ReplyDeleteWhat a catch!
ReplyDelete"Make no mistake what these 2 teans are playing for, the Rose Bowl." - Craig James
ReplyDeleteDoes he think we're stupid or the players not trying 100 percent?
Roughing the passer on Oregon
ReplyDeleteNow it looks like Oregon is the undisciplined team.
ReplyDeleteQuizz Rodgers pushing defenders inside the Oregon 15!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon State!
ReplyDeleteOver the middle, Touchdown! Canfield to Casey Kjos!
ReplyDelete30-21 Oregon State now in the 3rd quarter
ReplyDeleteOregon State got a TD? Wow, I totally missed that.
ReplyDelete/Curses paper he is working on.
LaMichael James rushes for 14 yds, Oregon inside OSU territory.
ReplyDelete@JFein That would explain why you weren't here. Darelle Revis just intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick w/ 2:00 left. 19-13 Jets lead the Bills
ReplyDeleteI didn't think a Panthers-Bucs game that originally featured Barry Tompkins and Eddie George on the call could get any worse. It just did. Pitts and Lynch might be doing the game now but the starting QB for Carolina is Matt Moore.
ReplyDeleteI have hit refresh enough though to see 3 spammers today....
ReplyDeleteTim Clark for OSU injured his ankle causing a TO.
ReplyDeleteLagerette Blount has carried twice now for Oregon. Blount's first carries since the Boise St. game.
They go for it on 4th down and JUST get it on the catch.
ReplyDeleteDid Fowler just say that Mayo had "no chance of taking the blow"?
ReplyDeleteJets beat the Bills. Does anyone care?
ReplyDeleteAnother injured OSU defender on the field.
ReplyDeleteOregon State defensive players dropping like flies.
ReplyDeleteLaGarette Blount is playing after he was suspended for the season.
ReplyDeleteGo Beavers!!!
LaGarette Blount just suckered punched his way into the end zone.
ReplyDeleteLegarrette Blount punches his way into the endzone!
ReplyDeleteI'll give him props for that nice TD run, but it does not mean he should be out there?
ReplyDeleteAspeaking of guys returning and getting their 1st TD, how awesome would it be if Vick got his 1st TD in Atlanta this Sunday? I'm rooting for him so much just to get one with the Eagles.
+1 Keith.
ReplyDelete@49er16 Thank you for fixing my last statement, sucker-punch is more accurate. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI know this is an unfair comparison that should not be made for many reasons but how is it that LaGarette Blount gets to return after punching a player yet Dez Bryant is still suspended for a much lesser and more importantly harmless infraction of the rules?
ReplyDeleteFrom Jay Christenson of Wiz of odd blog Twitter Account:
ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds that Blount gets arrested after the game?
Quizz Rodgers passes another test and gets a 1st down.
ReplyDeleteDon't get the wrong impression that I don't like Lagarrette Blount, he made a mistake and I think he is legitimately sorry for it and deserves a 2nd chance at football, but he was suspended for the entire season. Am I the only one that finds anything wrong with that retraction?
ReplyDeleteAnd that will do it for this edition of JFein's Soapbox!
ReplyDelete@49er16 Odds 2 to 1
ReplyDelete@JFein: Chip Kelly never suspended Blount for the season. He suspended him indefinitely, which means he had a chance to come back.
ReplyDelete33-28 Oregon State
ReplyDeleteGood thing Oregon State has a great field goal kicker.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was for the season for some reason.....
ReplyDelete@JFein I find nothing wrong w/ Blount now. He did something, was punished, and sat on the bench. The Oregon coaches and school administration are gutless for withdrawing the suspension just for a chance to go to the Rose Bowl. He was brought back before this game but it was right after Oregon lost to Stanford. They knew they couldn't lose any more games and threw away their ethics.
ReplyDelete"It's the evolutionary of the zone." - Jesse Palmer
ReplyDeleteOregon leads. James to the endzone.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Oregon!
ReplyDeleteAnd the 2-point conversion is no good.
Oregon takes a one point lead.
Mark Mangino's firing means that the football players can actually eat food during the group dinners.
ReplyDeleteOSU about to give it back to Oregon as the 3rd quarter ends.
ReplyDelete@JFein +1,000
ReplyDeleteMangino makes Andy Reid look skinny.
Mangino makes Andy Reid look anorexic
ReplyDelete/Fixed
I really hate Oregon fans.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Oregon State punter is having a rough night.
Short punt out of bounds at the Oregon 45
ReplyDeleteLaMichael James into OSU territory. Beavers defense is being gashed.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one that really likes Chris Fowler on PbP?
ReplyDeleteBig stop by the OSU defense as Masoli continues to hold the football out like a water balloon.
ReplyDeleteThe anons are getting more and more disturbing and frightening as the night goes on.
ReplyDeleteQuizz almost broke one!
WHAT A CATCH BY RODGERS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis game certainly hasn't disappointed.
ReplyDelete@JFein Fowler is good. I'd prefer only 2-3 college PxP guys at ESPN more than him. I like Franklin, McDonough, and Nessler. Fowler is a solid 4th. Hell, I like him more than Verne some weeks.
ReplyDeleteAre the anons really one person or a group? Yeah, disturbing.
"It goes run run BAM!" - The Bachelor
ReplyDeleteI have no idea.....all I know is that I am eagerly anticipating the deletion by "49er69"....
ReplyDeleteCanfield sacked! /Chris Fowler'd
ReplyDeleteHere we go. Do you kick another FG or do you attempt 4th and Civil War right here right now?
ReplyDeleteI'd kick it.
Beavers going on 4th and 15! Sideline throw for Rodgers...incomplete!
ReplyDeleteThe Beavers can't stop them now.
ReplyDeleteBlount to the OSU 40!!! Damnit! DAMNIT! /JFein'd
ReplyDeleteToo many injuries on the defense for Oregon State now.
ReplyDeleteOregon St. has them in a 3rd and short situation.
ReplyDeleteBEAVERS DEFENSE HOLDS ON 3RD DOWN!!!
ReplyDeleteOSU defense holds on 3rd and short. What does Oregon do?
ReplyDeleteThis is intense.
ReplyDeleteMasoli just destroyed Lance Mitchell.
ReplyDelete4th and 3 Oregon going...Masoli runs, hit, spins and gets the 1st down!
ReplyDeleteWow. Masoli just PWN3D Lance Mitchell and may have earned the Ducks a birth in the Rose Bowl.
ReplyDeleteMasoli just dumped trucked his way into the a Rose Bowl thrashing of Ohio State.
ReplyDeleteUSE THOSE TIMEOUTS OREGON STATE!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf the Beavers defense doesn't stop Oregon on 3rd and/or 4th down now, they should just head back to Corvalis.
ReplyDeleteOSU's tackling is as good as the Redskins...NOT GOOD.
ReplyDeletePlay action with Masoli boot-legging it and taking off for the chains.
ReplyDeleteOregon wins if they do that.
4th and 2 Ducks, they go for it.
ReplyDeleteWell two years in a row, Oregon has prevented Oregon State from reaching the Rose Bowl.
ReplyDeleteKenyon Barner gets the 1st down on the Masoli pitch. OSU uses its last timeout.
ReplyDeleteOregon can just take a knee now.
ReplyDeleteNow it's time for Ohio State to get their ass kicked by Oregon.
Masoli falls down on purpose. 2nd down w/ 1:00 left. Oregon is going to the Rose Bowl
ReplyDeleteI will say this again, I really hate Oregon and their fans.
ReplyDeletePrepare for Nike and Phil Knight to be all over the Rose Bowl on January 1st.
Good night guys. I'm going to watch the third period of the Sharks game.
ReplyDelete"The Ducks are flying south, for the 1st time in 15 years!" -Fowler as Oregon earns a Rose Bowl berth.
ReplyDelete@49er16 Not a chance in hell I watch that debacle too.
ReplyDeleteEverybody saying the game didn't disappoint, the Rose Bowl sure will.
This was a good football game......the Rose Bowl will not be.
ReplyDeleteErin Andrews' mic goes out so no interviews.
ReplyDelete"Sportscenter w/ Scott Van Pelt and John Anderson coming up..." - Fowler
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This whole night got ruined in about 15 minutes.
Baylor/Ariz. St. tied at 58. Now Baylor takes the lead w/ 46.5 left.
ReplyDeleteASU misses a 3, they foul Baylor w/ 14.5 left.
ReplyDeleteBaylor makes 2 FTs to go up 62-58 14.3 left
ReplyDeleteASU makes a 3, 62-61 Baylot w :07 left.
ReplyDeleteBaylor gets a wide-open layup on the inbounds pass, ASU 3-pointer at the buzzer is no good. Baylor wins 64-61.
ReplyDelete
