Must List: Week 3

All I have to say about this week's slate of games is that thank goodness Alabama plays Texas A&M because the slate of night games are terrible. Musburger and Herbstreit will call the Notre Dame-Purdue game. Yes you read that right. Notre Dame-Purdue are the night cap on ABC. Woof. Like I said, thank goodness for Bama-A&M.

Thursday, September 12th
TCU at Texas Tech, 7:30 (ESPN: Rece Davis, David Pollack, Jesse Palmer, Samantha Ponder) Gotta wonder who this is a bigger test for? Texas Tech's new coach Kliff Shades? Or TCU's offense now that Casey Pachall is gone? One thing that was always reliable about TCU over the years has been their defense, but is that the case anymore? TCU is another one of those schools you have to ask if it was worth it jumping to a bigger conference? They looked like world beaters in the Mountain West but in the Big 12 they're just another team with small players.

Saturday, September 14th
UCLA at Nebraska, Noon (ABC: Sean McDonough, Chris Spielman, Shannon Spake) Remember the old days when Nebraska ran all over people and had a world class defense? Well they still can run but woof that defense. Are the blackshirts really going to stop UCLA's offense which had a very balanced effort in their first game against Nevada? Nebraska gave up a ton of yards to Wyoming. How the hell are they going to stop UCLA*?

*Watch UCLA get shut out in this game because of A) that idiot Jim Mora Jr is their coach B) because that's a 9 in the morning start time on the West Coast.

Tulsa at Oklahoma, Noon (ESPN2: Dave Flemming, Ray Bentley, Lewis Johnson) Interesting game from the standpoint of Oklahoma hasn't looked like the offensive powerhouse we've seen in the past. Although I will say it looks like Oklahoma is getting back to a defensive powerhouse that we saw 12 years ago. I'm terrible at predicting how these games will be played out but I'm still expecting both teams to combine for at least 50 points.
Why yes that's Lane Kiffin.

Fresno State at Colorado, 2:00 (Pac12 Net: Kevin Calabro, Yogi Roth, Jill Savage) Sneaky good game of the weekend. Colorado has looked good with Mike McIntyre as their coach. At least they have an offense again. Fresno State can put a ton of points on the board with David Carr's little brother manning the offense but they give up just as many points. Whatever the over/under is on this game take the over*.

*Sucker. Never bet on what I say to bet on.

Tennessee at Oregon, 3:30 (ABC: Mike Patrick, Ed Cunningham, Jeannine Edwards) You want to watch Oregon's offense and smile but there's a voice in your head. You keep hearing this nasally voice wondering what Britney Spears is doing with her life? You keep hearing that voice the entire game. It finally drives you nuts enough to change the channel. Yes that voice is Mike Patrick and in back-to-back weeks he gets to ruin Oregon games.

Nevada at Florida State, 3:30 (ESPN: Bob Wischusen, Rod Gilmore, Quint Kessenich) I know it probably won't happen but wouldn't it be the most Florida State thing ever if they lost to Nevada? I'm pissed Kaepernick doesn't have any eligibility left to continue playing for Nevada because I would love to see him vs. Winston.

Alabama at Texas A&M, 3:30 (CBS: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson) All the games are just appetizers for the main course which is of course Bama-A&M. I personally cannot wait for Danielson to complain about the A&M spread offense because he's an old grump who is lodged up Saban's ass. Anyways I fully expect Bama to win this game even though it's in College Station. Saban doesn't lose to the same team twice within a year. Remember Bama smashing Florida and Tebow a year after losing to them in the SEC title game? Remember Bama shutting out LSU a few years ago for the championship? No way Bama looses this game.

Washington at Illinois, 6:00 (B1GNet: Eric Collins, J. Lemen, Evan Fitzgerald) These two teams are actually......competent? Well Washington looked good destroying Boise State in the first week and Illinois looked really good last week. Now I fully expect this to be one of those 13-7 ugly B1G games.

Ohio State at Cal, 7:00 (FOX: Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, Kristina Pink) I fully expect Cal to lose by 14 because their defense isn't very good. I also expect that this game will at least be competitive. While the defense needs work, Cal's offense looks great with Jarred Goff at quarterback. Goff has already thrown for almost 1,000 yards in only two games. This game will at least be interesting.

Vanderbilt at South Carolina, 7:00 (ESPN: Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe) I feel sorry for Vanderbilt in this game. After losing to Georgia, you just know that South Carolina is going to destroy the nerds from Nashville.

Ole Miss at Texas, 8:00 (Longhorn Network: Joe Tessitore, Matt Millen, Kaylee Hartung) I refuse to preview Notre Dame-Purdue so I'm previewing a game that hardly anyone will be able to watch. If you're able to find a stream though check in on this game. Texas is a mess after BYU ran all over them and I can only imagine what will happen if the Longhorns lose this game.

Wisconsin at Arizona State, 10:30 (ESPN: Dave Pasch, Brian Griese, Tom Luginbill) New coach, same old Wisconsin. They're going to throw a little amount and run all over you. Unlike the past couple of years, Wisconsin isn't relying on a single running back for production but 3 running backs for production and it has worked so far.

Recipe of the Week, Chili BBQ Chicken: (Recipe via my friend James Craven) Now I admit I'm not a big chicken fan. You can't under or over cook chicken. It has to have juice because nothing is worse than dry birds. Now all that being said I like this recipe because wood chips are involved and the chips will give the chicken flavor and juice because you soak the chips first and they give off moisture.

Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Blithering Idiot: Blithering Idiot is a beer out of Pennsylvania and not Justin, HEYO! This beer is better with food like cheese or meat because it's not good drank without anything.

  1. Thought I would point out that Pat Haden made a remark recently to a bunch of USC students (at the Annenberg School I believe) that their football program won't be relevant for another 10 to 11 years. You can proceed to point and laugh...now.
