Foul Ball: Pitching!

Philadelphia 0, San Francisco 1, 11 Innings: We got our pitching dual last night that everyone was expecting from this series. Cliff Lee went 10 innings giving up 7 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 7. The Giants hitters couldn't help Lee out anymore by grounding into 4 double plays in the game.

Not to be outdone, Matt Cain went 9 innings giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, 0 runs, and striking out 4. Cain has now gone 19 straight innings without giving up a run.

Luckily for the Giants Melky Cabrera saved them in the 11th innings, hitting a walk-off single against Tony Bastard. This game will undoubtedly be one of the best games of the year if not the best game. It was just a pleasure to watch and it barely lasted two and a half hours. 2 1/2 hours! Watch one of the Yankees-Red Sox games this weekend and you'll see those games aren't even in the 7th inning yet by 2 1/2 hours.

Oakland 6, Anaheim 0: Not to be outdone by Lee and Cain, Bartolo Colon threw an incredible 38 pitches for strikes in a row last night. I'm actually more impressed with Colon than either Lee and Cain. Colon looks like he can't even bend over and tie his shoes and he just carved up a great Angels lineup last night for 8 innings.

Cincinnati 1, St. Louis 11: The Reds-Cardinals have played 5 games against each other so far this year and the Reds have only scored 8 runs in those games. Last night's game was was just an embarrassment for the Reds. Cincinnati pitching even gave up a two-run triple to Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia. Rumor is Dusty Baker chewed through an entire box of tooth picks during the game.

Texas 6, Boston 3: Kevin Youkilis was "motivated" enough to hit a home run in this game, but that wasn't enough for the Red Sox. They lost again. Mike Napoli drove in four of Texas' six runs off a home run and a double. Derek Holland pitched seven innings and picked up the victory.

New York 6, Atlanta 14: Believe it or not by RA Dickey out of all people had the longest quality start streak in the majors. I said had, because the Braves chased Dickey out of the game by the fifth inning by launching three home runs off the knuckleballer. Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla, and someone named Juan Francisco all hit home runs against Dickey.

Chip Caray Quote: Chip had a good zinger despite "fisted" when Bo Jackson visited the Braves booth: "Brian Bosworth got in the way of progress." High baseball comedy!

Jim Powell Quote: Not to be out done by Caray, Braves radio announcer Jim Powell had a zinger of his own. Powell noticed there was a group of shirtless Braves fans at the game and made this great observation, "Those shirtless fans are showing great drinkism." I gotta say I love the Braves radio broadcasters.

Los Angeles 2, Milwaukee 3, 10 Innings: For the second night in a row, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Dodgers on a walk-off. Tuesday night it was in the ninth. Last night it was in the tenth. And here's my reaction to the news the Dodgers have now lost back-to-back games on a walkoff.

Tampa Bay 12, Toronto 2: Everyone's favorite American Luke Scott hit a grand slam to go along with three other home runs hit by the Rays in the game. Rays pitcher David Price didn't look that hot himself though only lasting 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and home run to Jeff Mathis. When you give up a home run to Jeff Mathis, you don't deserve to stay in the game past 7 innings.

Pittsburgh 2, Arizona 1: Pedro Alvarez has two hits all season. Both of them are home runs and one of the home runs/hits was against Arizona on Wednesday afternoon to give the Pirates a rare victory. Good job Pedro.

  1. I thought Panda was going to break Crawford in half on that play.
