No joke. I typed "power rankings" in the Google image search and one of the first pictures was this He-Man picture. |
1. Interleague- Lost in the talk about realignment is the fact baseball would have Interleague games year around. And knowing Bud Selig, this was probably his goal the entire time. You cannot convince me that Selig doesn't want Interleague year around. Interleague was his baby and I'm sure he wants the concept to grow into a year-around event. Which leads to a couple of questions.
A.) Would baseball eliminate the DH or the pitcher? Or would baseball keep the same rules and have the pitchers hit in the National League and have a DH in the American League?
B.) How much money would this provide to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals of the baseball? Selig is all about the money and he wouldn't realign baseball if it wouldn't bring in money.
Call me old fashion, but I'm just not a fan of realignment where we would get Interleague year around. I wish baseball would eliminate Interleague period.
2. The Mariners Rotation- The Mariners rotation is sneaky good. One of the reasons why the Mariners are only a half game out of first place in the AL West. The Mariners rotation has the fourth best team FIP in the majors and the sixth best BABIP and ERA. Everyone knew Michael Pineda would be good and he's lived up the expectations so far. King Felix is doing King Felix things. Erik Bedard isn't a complete disaster this year and Jason Vargas has been solid along with Doug Fister. The Mariners bullpen is doing outstanding work as well. The Mariners are like the Giants though and desperately need offense.
3. Pedro Cerrano All-Stars- Of course we're talking about baseball players who are like Pedro Cerrano. They can hit the straightball, but can't hit the curveball. Here's the list of the Pedro Cerrano All-Stars courtesy of the great Fangraphs.
Of course two Giants are on the list. At this point, I don't think Burrell can even hit a fastball.
4. Florida Marlins- Since breaking Buster Posey's ankle and sweeping the Giants, the rotten tuna have won just one game in a twenty game stretch. Their manager, Edwin Rodriguez, took the bullet for the team on Sunday be resigning. I guess you could say the Marlins are making the "smart baseball play."
5. Jack McKeon- Yes the Marlins are about to bring back Jack McKeon as their manager. The same Jack McKeon who managed George Brett in his rookie season. Of course this is the same Jack McKeon that lead the Marlins on that crazy ride in 2003 to become the world champions. If any manager can turn around the Marlins, it's McKeon. That and Josh Johnson needs to get healthy.
6. Men Whose Names Were Unfortunate in Retrospect- While Fangraphs provides tremendous graphs and pie charts, NotGraphs provides posts like men whose names were unfortunate in retrospect. Namely the multiple Mike Stanton's and Alex Gonzalez's of the world. And the pitcher Jose Bautista.
7. Albert Pujols' Wrist- Pujols had to leave yesterday's game with a wrist injury. The initial X-Rays said that Pujols only has a sprain, but the Cardinals need to see the MRI next. This has me thinking. I broke a bone in my foot when I was a senior in high school. I just got an X-Ray and the doctor said it was broken. Why didn't I get an MRI? Maybe that bone in my foot was just sprained?
8. Paul Konerko's Father- I don't think the elder Konerko thought he would spend his father's day watching his son and also getting drilled by a foul ball. The elder Konerko was fine, but a scary moment nonetheless.
9. Camden Chat- Yes this blog was a Jeopardy answer.
10. The Killing- Not baseball related but the series finale of "The Killing" was last night. I don't know about anyone else who watched this show, but "The Killing" was incredibly frustrating show to watch and I kept going back because I wanted to know who killed Rosie Larsen. For a show full of red herrings, I shouldn't have been surprised that the lead detective arrested the wrong person or that the show would have a red herring cliffhanger. As Alan Sepinwall says in his review of last night's episode, "The series finale was a mess and a insult to anyone who followed this show." Couldn't have said it better myself. I'll definitely won't be watching season 2.
The fact that blog was a Jeopardy answer is a sign of just how unrecognizable and unmemorable the Orioles have become the last few years.
