Detroit 4, Cleveland 0: Justin Verlander almost threw another no-hitter on Tuesday while the Tigers beat the Indians to take over first place in the AL Central. Verlander, who threw a no-hitter last month, took a no-hitter into the eighth inning when Orlando Cabrera broke it up with a clean single to center. The Indians managed to get another hit and walk off of Verlander but that was it for the night as Verlander also struck out 12. The Tigers are now in first place in the AL Central.
Philadelphia 9, Florida 1: The bandbox in Philly was lively Tuesday night. The Phillies hit five home runs in the game, two by Dominic Brown alone, four of those off of ankle breaker pitcher Chris Volstad. Volstad had to pitch 5 2/3 miserable innings giving up ten hits, eight runs, and four home runs before he was mercifully pulled from the game.
New York 12, Texas 4: The Yankees are so brave. On the same day Derek Jeter went on the DL for the first time since 2003, the Yankees actually managed to pull themselves together and beat the Rangers. Somehow Jeter's replacement, Eduardo Nunez, managed to go 2-for-4 with an RBI and run. What a brave soldier.
Toronto 6, Baltimore 5, 11 Innings: The Blue Jays might not be able to beat the Red Sox, but they can beat up the Orioles. Adam Lind lead off the eleventh inning with a game-winning home run to help the Blue Jays snap their four-game losing streak.
Tampa Bay 4, Boston 0: James Shields threw another shutout, third one of the year to lead the majors, and helped the Rays snap Boston's nine-game winning streak. Shields went the distance giving up five hits, three walks, no runs, while striking out five. Justin Ruggiano homered for the Rays. If Ruggiano played for the Giants, Bruce Bochy would call him Ruggy.
Chicago 5, Milwaukee 4, 10 Innings: The Brewers shouldn't lose to horrible teams like the Cubs if they want to win the NL Central. They especially can't blow 4-1 leads in the eighth inning, like they did Tuesday night. Starlin Castro drove in the game-winning run in the tenth inning with a bloop single.
Arizona 5, San Francisco 6: Pablo Sandoval finally returned and gave an immediate shot to the arm for the Giants. Sandoval drove in the first run of the game which saw the Giants score an astounding six runs. This was a team that only scored 24 runs in a ten-game home-stand recently, so yeah six runs is a lot.
Washington 8, St. Louis 6: Ryan Zimmerman returned from the DL for the Natinals after missing 5 games and immediately sparked a six-run rally in the seventh inning for the Natinals. In that six-run seventh inning rally, Zimmerman drove in the first two runs with a double. The Natinals would score the game-tying run on a wild pitch and game-winning run on a walk.

Last night's Giants game damn near gave me an ulcer. They don't do anything the easy way.
ReplyDelete15 losses in a row for the Orioles in Toronto. They need to hire the guy that does the scheduling for Syracuse basketball to keep them away from that place.
