Foul Ball: The Night Of Returns

Cleveland 3, Boston 2: I keep waiting to bury the Indians, then they come from behind and beat the Red Sox in the eighth inning. Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in runs in the eighth inning to give the Indians the victory. Indians closer Chris Perez ran into trouble in the ninth inning, but induced a Carl Crawford double play to end the game. Oh yeah, the Indians ground crew had a premature tarpelation.

Philadelphia 10, Cincinnati 3: Chase Utley returned and went 0-for-5. The rest of the Phillies offense showed up though in a big way. The Phillies had 14 hits, 10 runs, and hit three home runs on the night. Jimmy Rollins drove in three runs to go along with two RBIs from Raul Ibanez, John Mayberry, and Placido Polanco.

Houston 4, Los Angeles 3: It's usually the Astros bullpen that blows leads. After all the Astros bullpen has blown 11 saves this season. So it was probably an euphoric feeling for the Astros and their fans to see another team, this team being the Dodgers, blow a ninth inning lead. Even more incredible, the Astros tied and won the game with two-outs already. Michael Bourn tied the game with a two-run double and then Hunter Pence sent everyone home happy with the game-winning hit.

Detroit 6, Tampa Bay 3: Dirks and Furbush are your heroes in Detroit. No seriously, Andy Dirks and Chuck Furbush won this game for the Tigers. Furbush replaced injured Tigers starter Phil Coke in the fourth inning and pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up no runs in relief. Andy Dirks homered and reached base in the four run eighth inning for the Tigers. For those keeping score at home, the Tigers have guys on their team named Dirks, Furbush, Coke, and Sizemore.

New York 3, Toronto 7: Another ho-hum night for Jose Bautista. Bautista went 1-for-3 with a home run, 1 RBI, two runs, and two walks. Just another night for the slugger. J.P. Arencibia also had a big night for the Blue Jays driving in four runs. Carlos Villanueva and four Jays relievers combined to shut down the Yankees to three runs on six hits.

Texas 4, Chicago 0: Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz returned from injuries last night and promptly homered in their returns. Alexi Ogando pitched the complete game shutout giving up only five hits and three walks on the night to go along with six strikeouts. Also will someone please tell Dubya to get out of the way.

Minnesota 7, Seattle 8, 10 Innings: Despite two home runs from Jim Thome and a 7-4 lead, the Twins could not finish off the Mariners and lost in extra innings. The Mariners scored two runs in the eighth inning, tied the game in the ninth, and won the game in the tenth. The Oklahoma City Thunder couldn't believe how badly Joe Nathan and Matt Capps choked down the stretch.
