Baseball Update: Humidor Hate, Tomahawk Windup, & Death To Black Alternate Jersey's

With no Foul Ball this morning, I thought I would give you an Baseball Update. A look at stories and happening in baseball at the moment.

Humidor Hate: The Giants travel to Colorado to play the MLB leading Rockies. The Giants started the season 2-4 on the year but have gone 7-3 in the past 10 games. The Rockies meanwhile have beaten everybody to reach their MLB best record of 12-3. This should be a great series, especially because Lincecum starts tonight for the Giants.

If you remember last season the Giants accused the Rockies of tampering with the humidor balls at Coors Field. There's the video of Lincecum throwing the ball back to the umpire and yelling "juiced ball." There's the comments from Jon Miller basically saying the Rockies cheat by bringing non-humidor balls onto the field of play. Now MLB will closely monitor the baseball balls at Coors Field, presumably because the Giants ratted the Rockies out. This has caused a feud between the two teams and their fan bases. Should be an interesting series.

Who's That Leading The AL Central?: The biggest surprise of the young season is that the two teams picked to finish in the bottom of the AL Central are actually the two best teams in the AL Central. Yes the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals are first and second in the AL Central while everyone else is below .500. Amazing to think about. The Royals are doing everything on offense while the Indians are doing everything with their pitching. Can these teams keep with this pace? I don't see why not. Every team in the AL Central has showed they have one major flaw. The Indians and Royals certainly have theirs, but their flaws aren't a major weakness like the Twins injury concerns and the White Sox bullpen.

The Tomahawk Windup: Josh Collmenter of the Arizona Diamondbacks made his big league debut yesterday against the Giants picking up his first career victory in extra innings. This is important because he throws like this.

Death To Black Alternate Jersey's: Not Graph's brings up the subject of the black alternate jersey teams wear and makes an excellent point. Black alternate jersey's are lazy and bring out no character in a team unless they're the Chicago White Sox. It still makes me mad that the San Jose Sharks wear black alternate sweaters instead of always wearing their beautiful teal jersey's. Death to the black alternate jersey!

Ultra Geeky Way To Look At Baseball Recaps: In my Foul Ball posts where I recap the previous nights games, I attempt to be funny and give everyone a quick recap of what happened in a game. I don't do anything fancy like looking +WPA stats. You can find that though over at FanGraphs who takes an ultra geeky look at the previous nights games.

Oh Minnesota: You're having a terrible season so far, but hey at least you can stereotype yourself.

1 comment:

  1. The Giants will definitely lose one game in Colorado by the score of 12-11 with the Rockies hitting a walkoff double.
