Possible Coaching Replacements for Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer has announced his resignation as the Florida Gators football coach. Meyer did this same song and dance last year around this time and eventually came back to Florida. Like Brett Favre, Meyer has lost a lot of credibility with the public on whether he's really going to stay retired or not. For now though, it looks like Meyer will stay retired so it's time to look at possible replacements. On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 the highest 1 the lowest, lets take a look at the possible replacements for Urban Meyer.

Steve Addazio, Current Position: Florida Offensive Coordinator, Years with the Gators 2005-Present: With Florida Gators fans anger pointed all year long at Addazio, this possibility is not likely at all. Florida was also burned the last time they hired a Florida assistant. When Steve Spurrier left Florida in the early 2000's, the Gators hired longtime assistant Ron Zook and that was a disaster. I would love to see Addazio named the head coach of Florida just to see Gator fans burn down Gainesville, but this is just a pipe dream. (Possibility: 1)

Dan Mullen, Current Position: Mississippi State Head Coach, Years with the Gators 05-08: Mullen was Meyer's right hand man for his entire career until a couple of years ago. If you asked Gator fans, Mullen would probably be their first choice. As for Mullen, I could see him leaving for Florida. Miss State will always be behind Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas in the SEC West pecking order. Also there's the Cam Newton allegations that have surrounded his school as well. Now is his chance to leave for a better job while the iron is hot. (Possibility: 9)

Charlie Strong, Current Position: Louisville Head Coach, Years with the Gators 02-09: Strong was actually Florida's interim coach while the school was transitioning from Zook to Meyer. Strong has turned around the Louisville program in just a year. The question will be asked though, will Strong pull a Lane Kiffin and leave after just one year at his current job? He doesn't strike me as that kind of coach, so I can't see him leaving Louisville after one year. (Possibility: 5)

Bob Stoops, Current Position: Oklahoma Head Coach: Years with the Gators: 96-98: Stoops' name has been really popular in the past in Gainesville. Stoops' name has come up before with Florida during coaching searches after Spurrier left and after Zook was fired. Stoops has been with Oklahoma for over 10 years now. While I can't see him leaving OU for Florida, you never know. Maybe Stoops is tired of Oklahoma and needs a fresh start or a new challenge. I doubt he leaves though. (Possibility: 2)

Steve Spurrier, Current Position: South Carolina Head Coach, Years with the Gators: 90-02: Could you imagine the Ole Ball Coach returning to Gainesville? He would be my first choice to return to Florida. And why wouldn't he return to Florida? He took South Carolina about as far as they could go in the SEC this season. They'll never be better than they were this season. Spurrier can complete his Florida legacy by returning for one more stint. I just don't see this happening though. (Possibility: 4)

Lane Kiffin, Current Position: USC Head Coach, Years with the Gators: Never: You know Kiffykins is polishing his resume and sending it to Florida AD Jeremy Foley. (Possibility: -10)
