For the third year in a row ESPN will air 24 straight hours of college basketball games. Unlike last year, I will not be live blogging the entire 24 hours. It's just way too tiring live blogging the entire 24 hours. So instead leave your comments in this thread. I might live blog the Butler-Louisville game later the day, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see if I'm off of work by then. Until then, enjoy the games, leave comments, and don't be a troll.

ReplyDeleteRAFT!
ReplyDelete"Bill's evening is usually getting started at this time" Sean McDonough
ReplyDelete'The 2 words everyone hates are last call" Bill Raftery
Good luck to college basketball following arguably the greatest quarterbacking performance in NFL history.
ReplyDelete"We are not surprised to be assigned to the midnight evening start, as this is when Bill Raftery's night normally just gets started." - Sean McDonough
ESPN's 2 best commentators they have are right next to each other.
Damn I love McDonough and Raft.
ReplyDeleteACC refs on this game, Miami might see some calls
ReplyDeleteMiami is one of those teams that is predicted every year to make a breakthough in the ACC, and every year they end up in the bottom half of the league
ReplyDelete@Kris: Why is that? You'd think Miami would be better than this.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated to college basketball, but congrats to Buster Posey for winning rookie of the year! Good to see the right person won.
ReplyDelete/Posey > Heyward
McDonough: "It's shortly after Midnight, but already our first obscure Puerto Rico basketball reference."
ReplyDeleteAnfernee Hardaway!
ReplyDelete@Keith lots of individual talent that is never quite able to mesh as a team. plus, few people care about basketball at Miami. Their gym is half empty except for when Duke or UNC visits.
ReplyDelete"Sean, you've done a lot of coaching in your announcing career..." Raftery
ReplyDeleteRaftery on the Marathon: "Digger's probably got to go to bed. He can't handle it."
ReplyDelete"He went after it like it was a midnight snack." - McDonough
ReplyDeleteMcDonough: "(Johnson) went after it like a Midnight snack."
ReplyDeleteRaft cracking on Digger was great. My life is finally whole again with Raft back.
ReplyDeleteLiking this early effort from Miami.
ReplyDeleteThis game has been uneven, to say the least
ReplyDeleteToo many fouls so far. I've been switching back and forth between this game and the Sharks game.
ReplyDeleteAnd turnovers, especially from Miami, already in double digits.
ReplyDeleteThe Pistons were down by 30 to Golden State, now it's 9. #BackToMiami-Memphis
ReplyDeleteRaftery: "I thought Jay Bilas would be around with his cookies and milk."
ReplyDeleteMcDonough: "And his teddy bear."
At least this game has been close.
ReplyDeleteshould I be thrilled Mike Patrick is doing the Maryland game Saturday night?
ReplyDeleteI'm fascinated by this Pistons comeback. They were actually down 32 in the 1st half, now trailing 99-96 with 5.2 left. #They'llLose
ReplyDelete101-97 Warriors. Typical. #BackToMiami-Memphis
ReplyDelete@RJBO it's the NBA #someonealwaysmakesarun
ReplyDeleteI got sucked in, Kris.
ReplyDeleteI missed Rece's "Jay doesn't need a teddy bear. He's got Digger next to him" comment at halftime. #DVR
Talk to you guys tomorrow.
ReplyDelete#Willwatchtherestofthesegamesinbed
10-2 Memphis run. Uh-oh.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching most of Miami-Memphis and will do the same as Keith on the other games.
I'm gonna see this Michelle Wie-Kia commercial in my sleep. Or maybe just her.
ReplyDeleteThat's creepy RJBO.
ReplyDelete#IdreamaboutPaulaCreamer
starting to get really personal in these comments
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I was that drunk. Don't ask me to recite the alphabet, or it'll be LaRussa-like comical.
ReplyDelete6 straight points for Miami, down now 48-45.
Any Steve Lavin impersonation must include "beep-beeper," Rece.
ReplyDeleteMcDonough on Reggie Johnson's trip to China: "They were offering him squirrel and chicken heads and he said he wasn't too anxious to snack on that."
ReplyDeleteRaftery: "I'd settle for that tonight."
Johnson ties the game for Miami
ReplyDeleteGeez Jackson on that dunk attempt.
ReplyDeleteoh! Jackson bricked the jam for the Tigers!
ReplyDelete"The last time we were up this late was the Syracuse game..I meant basketball wise" Raftery
ReplyDeleteRaftery: "We'll give Steve (Lavin) a little time to re-do his hair."
ReplyDeleteMcDonough: "I've always found Miami to be a more patient team at 1 in the morning (CST)."
ReplyDeleteMcDonough to Raftery: "At your age, it's the Early Bird Special, then to bed."
ReplyDeleteTied at 63 with 2:12 left in Memphis. Turnovers and terrible outside shooting aside, it'll be close late. #CaptainObvious
ReplyDeleteRaft: "A little early onions" on the 3 by Crawford that gave Memphis a 66-65 lead.
ReplyDeleteOof.
ReplyDelete68-66 Memphis with 54.6 seconds left after the Carmouche FTs.
ReplyDeleteMiami didn't need that 3, especially when they haven't hit many all night.
ReplyDelete3 is short!
ReplyDeleteMemphis is going to hang on and win
Memphis wins. My Eagles recap is up for those who care. Good night.
ReplyDeleteMark Gottfried in a sauna is not an image i want to go to bed with...
ReplyDeleteA Chris Mullin sighting in Moraga.
ReplyDeleteLavin gets T'd up
ReplyDeleteAnd Lavin gets a Tech over an elbow to the chops of DJ Kennedy. It looked inadvertent.
ReplyDeleteGene Keady has to be in the running for worst toupee of all time
ReplyDeleteSt. John's leads 31-28 at the half.
ReplyDeleteBlackburn: "St. John's saying 'Good Morning' to the Steve Lavin Era."
As much as I want to see the Zeigler kid for CMU or hear Gottfried go on about Lavin, I've gotta get some sleep.
i'm with RJBO...sleep time
ReplyDeleteWaking up to a close finish to Stony Brook-Monmouth.
ReplyDeleteStone: "A face rake to say Good Morning."
ReplyDeleteStony Brook closes the game on a 17-6 run to beat Monmouth 51-49.
ReplyDeleteGreat finish to the Robert Morris-Kent State game.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Bob Wischusen, I now know Saluki's are the worlds oldest domesticated dogs. #Themoreyourknow
ReplyDeleteLa Salle and Baylor in a close one right now. Go La Salle!
ReplyDeleteGood showing by La Salle.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Brent always wear sweaters for college basketball?
ReplyDelete@Justin: I think he's just trying to fit in with Knight.
ReplyDeleteBob Knight yelling at the ref while on air was weird.
ReplyDeletetypical Va Tech horrificness
ReplyDelete#ihatewhinySethGreenburg
reading some of the stuff about the CBS-Turner NCAA coverage, who do I have to write to get a Brando-GMan-Reggie Miller pairing?
ReplyDelete#wouldprovideexcellentliveblogmocking
Hahaha. That would actually be worse than Brando-Gminski-Bardo from a few years ago.
ReplyDeletethere is a much simpler explanation as to why KState sold out a 2pm basketball game
ReplyDelete#nothingbettertodoinmanhattan,kansas
I would rather listen to Vitale than Knight. At least Vitale isn't an old grouch like Knight.
ReplyDeletethis has just been a terrible 1st half
ReplyDeletePenn State is a "key non-conference game" for VaTech?
ReplyDeleteMusburger: "what do you think of playing a tough non conference game before the first of the year?"
ReplyDeleteKnight: "one of 2 things will happen; you're either going to win or lose."
#captainobvious
Brent: "Let's go to Brian Burr..."
ReplyDeleteWhy is Tex Winter sitting on Knight's lap?
ReplyDeleteThat's a little awkward with Knight & Tex Winter. #Understatement
ReplyDeleteI need a nap. #stayeduptoolatewatchingHawaii-CentralMichigan
ReplyDeleteI woke up to watch a little bit of CMU-Hawaii just in time to see that Neil Everett was in the stands. Went right back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteDavila & Allen both have 4 fouls with 16:27 left for the Hokies.
ReplyDeleteKnight: "Sometimes I think they should send the dribble to China or some place." Que?
ReplyDeleteKnight after a decent observation by Brent: "That's why you're the best, Brent."
ReplyDeleteBrent: "Have to learn at the knee of the General."
Seth Greenburg gets a T as the Hokies fall down 10 late.
ReplyDeleteKnight: "Seeing all these coaches in suits and ties kinda wears me out. I'd rather be miserable and comfortable than miserable and uncomfortable."
ReplyDeleteBrent: "Martin and the Wildcats have a stranglehold." #NeilReed
ReplyDeletei really wish they would kick these frauds from Blacksburg out of the ACC
ReplyDelete#wouldratherhaveSyracuse
Random Wildcats fan after the Hokies bench gets a T: "Take your ball and go home."
ReplyDeleteoh lord. Jimmy Dykes
ReplyDeleteThank Goodness this Florida-Ohio State game has a good pace. These other games have been dreadfully slow.
ReplyDeleteBaylor's had a nice comeback and they lead the UConn women by 3 with 7:45 to play
ReplyDeleteThat is one large State Farm Tip-off Classic logo.
ReplyDelete@RJBO you forgot the #bringbacktheRessescourt tag...
ReplyDeleteHaha.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, the Buckeyes are getting distance on the Gators. Geez.
10-2 run for the Huskies ties it at 58.
ReplyDeletei could do without Doris Burke "ending the streak would be good" argument
ReplyDeleteOhio State has blown away Florida this half.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBaylor within 1 with 36.5 to play
ReplyDeleteif anyone has it, Chip Caray is calling the Colorado/Georgia game
ReplyDeleteIt's on ESPN3. I might have to stop there and maybe Detroit-Syracuse, too.
ReplyDeletebased on the tweets i'm seeing, i really wish i could catch Chip's work...
ReplyDelete#maybeTurnercouldusehimontheNCAAtourney
UConn's streak goes to 80; 65-64.
ReplyDeleteAuriemma: "It's always better to teach when you win than when you lose."
Vitale on Kyle Kuric being Louisville's homecoming king "to heck with the king, i wanna meet the queen."
ReplyDeleteand I see Matt Howard still hasn't figured out how to play basketball w/out picking up a boatload of fouls
Louisville is one of my favorite cities. Just beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteAfter 10 minutes of trouble, I'm finally able to dial up ESPN3.com. #PutsOnColorado-Georgia
ReplyDeleteTechnical foul on the Butler bench.
ReplyDelete'Cuse starting to pull away from the Fighting Dick Vitales, 50-42.
ReplyDeleteSame old Butler. Play great defense, rebound, offense stalls.
ReplyDeleteCaray: "Dominique was magnifique," as he and Larry Conley compared dunks of 'Nique and Travis Leslie. #stretch
ReplyDelete@Kris: Shulman and Knight are calling your game on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThe way Butler's playing, I might like UDM to win the Horizon League. #Homer
ReplyDeleteRob Kennedy: "The Marathon is like a basketball Holiday!" #Shill
Dickie V owning a pizza business? He's got enough cheese in his broadcasts. #I'llBeHereAllWeek
ReplyDeleteWheels have come off for Butler.
ReplyDeleteDickie V moaning about not being able to Tweet from the Yum Center. I've never wanted a Michigan State game to start so badly in my life.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Louisville has blown this lead.
ReplyDeleteButler-L'ville has the pace and crispness of a Red Sox-Yankees game.
ReplyDeleteThis L'Ville-Butler game has slowed down to a snails pace after a crisp 1st half.
ReplyDeleteStop fouling Butler!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Mara!
ReplyDeleteDickie V: "That's the linguini in me and the rigatoni."
Dakich talking about the "bodies" of the South Carolina players was creepy.
ReplyDeleteEarlier, Jimmy Dykes sounded like he wanted to marry Jared Sullinger's "rear end." He mentioned how great it was about ten times (hyperbole).
ReplyDeleteAppling has a great first name.
ReplyDeleteIt's Summers in the City!
ReplyDelete/Brando'd

ReplyDeleteO'Brien on what can be done in 23 hours: "You could see one Red Sox-Yankees game."
ReplyDeleteDakich: "(Ohio State) can throw it down to Sulliger..."
ReplyDelete42-25 Sparty leads at the half.
ReplyDeleteWhy was this game picked to close the Marathon on ESPN?
@RJBO: I'm going to watch the Gonzaga-SDSU game because Dave Flemming will be calling it.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, I'm happy I didn't live blog the entire 24 hours of this day. What a brutal slate of games.
ReplyDeleteIf you have 12 minutes, this rant from a Washington sportstalk radio host is the stuff of legends.
ReplyDeletehttp://fireandyreidnow.blogspot.com/2010/11/one-of-greatest-rants-you-will-ever.html
There must be 12 people left in the rain at the Linc for Ohio-Temple.
ReplyDeleteOhio trying desperately to give this game to Temple.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing was when the Bobcats players were trying to determine if they won the MAC East title and could dump Gatorade on their coach.
Unknown player: "We haven't clinched shit yet."
Missed PAT. Hatchi-matchi.
ReplyDeleteTemple should not be playing games at the Linc. The atmosphere is just......pathetic.
ReplyDeleteWorst. Onside kick. Ever.
ReplyDelete@Justin: Is there a different stadium they could play in?
ReplyDeleteTemple will have a chance at a hail mary or a Boise lateral.
ReplyDeleteSomeone tell David Norrie that Ohio does not have time to run another play and run out the clock.
Despite the signs of life by the Gamecocks in the 2nd half, I'm gonna get to sleep a little early tonight.
ReplyDeleteSee ya, fellas.
@ Keith: They don't have one on campus, but they could certainly build one. Villanova has one. Penn has one. I've seen practice fields with a better atmosphere than Temple at the Linc.
ReplyDeleteHell, Redman Stadium on campus has a livlier atmosphere than the Linc at a Temple game. And our stadium barely holds 5,000 people!
Hopefully Flemming doesn't lose his voice again.
ReplyDelete/His Renteria home run call'd
Belmont down 2 to Tennessee with 36 seconds to go, shooting FT's
ReplyDeleteof course, Bob Wenzel is announcing this game
Wenzel: "Belmont could have gone ahead on this play"
ReplyDeletethe Belmont player was shooting a 3, down 3
Tennessee survives Belmont
ReplyDelete
