Thank God the Giants are in the World Series, because the college football season has been very mundane. The "marquee" match-up of the weekend is USC-Oregon. It's such a big game that over half the country will get to watch Minnesota-Ohio State instead. The games this week flat out stink. The only game I'm looking forward to is the Iowa-Michigan State game. That's not saying much. Carry on though, here's this week's Must List.
Announcing schedule courtesy of the506.
October 28:
16 Florida State @ North Carolina State, 7:30, ESPN- Another mundane Thursday night game. Is there any reason why I should even check out this game? These are two of the best teams in the ACC and I couldn't care less about this game.
October 30th:
22 Miami @ Virginia, 12:00, ESPN- I wish I could have found another morning game worth watching, but there really isn't one. Would you be surprised if I told you Miami only has two loses on the season? I know I was surprised when I looked at their standings and found out Miami's only loses were to Ohio State and Florida State. Could this team secretly sneak their way into a BCS game?
Tennessee @ 20 South Carolina, 12:00, SEC Network- Too bad Phil Fulmer doesn't coach at Tennessee anymore. You know how much Steve Spurrier would make fun of his team right now? Hopefully Derek Dooley doesn't make any WWII/Nazi/German comments after this game.
Florida v. Georgia, 3:30, CBS- Remember it was just three years ago when Georgia thrashed Florida in Jacksonville? Yeah, that was good times. Now both teams are struggling and Florida is coming off a three-game losing streak and their offense has completely become stagnate. Surprisingly, Georgia actually has the better conference record than Florida. I wouldn't bet money on this game if somebody gave me the cash to bet.
5 Michigan State @ 18 Iowa, 3:30, ESPN/ABC- Michigan State barely escaped Northwestern last week and Iowa lost to Wisconsin in the last minutes. Sparty has a chance this week to do the Boise State/Oregon hop-over if they can go to Iowa City and beat Iowa. And would it really surprise anyone if Sparty jumped over Boise State/Oregon if they won this weekend and Auburn lost?
6 Missouri @ 14 Nebraska, 3:30, ESPN/ABC- Here's a rarity. Missouri is ranked higher than Nebraska and is actually undefeated. The Tigers though have to face a very good Nebraska defense and will somehow have to find a way to stop Taylor Martinez. On the flip side, Nebraska has to stop Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert. This should actually be a good game to watch.
1 Auburn @ Mississippi, 6:00, ESPN2- Houston Nutt teams have beat number one ranked teams before. The curse of the number one ranked team still lingers in the air. Could we see an upset in Oxford? Probably not, but we can always hope.
25 Baylor @ Texas, 7:00, FSN- Would ever imagine a time when Baylor is ranked and not Texas? If there is one thing that the Texas defense hasn't been able to stop this year has been the running game. Baylor has one of the best running quarterbacks in Robert Griffith. Could be another long day in Austin.
2 Oregon @ USC, 8:00, ABC-The last time these two teams played, Oregon kicked USC's ass and dethroned them as the best Pac-10 team. USC looks to regain some of their swagger in this game. They're at home and the offense has been great this year. I just don't see Grandpa Monte's defense stopping Oregon though.
Recipe of the Week, Buffalo Wings- You can make your own wings instead of sitting in a shady bar worrying that some biker guy is going to beat you up. The secret to wings is not necessarily the recipe, but the meat you choose. That's the most important part after all. So choose your wings from the best produce grocery store in your town.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Strawberry Short's Cake- This beer got outstanding grades from the Beer Advocate. This beer is brewed in Michigan so RJBO needs to try one for he can report on how good it is. It looks delicious. Kind of like a root beer float, but only with strawberry's and alcohol.
