College Football Open Thread: Week 4

Time for another college football open thread. I'm still galled at the lack of exciting morning games. Seriously, the most exciting morning game is NC State-Georgia Tech and they're two mediocre ACC teams. So I wouldn't expect much activity until the Noon games. That shouldn't stop you from leaving comments, but don't be a troll.

Games I'll be watching
North Carolina State @ Georgia Tech, 12:00, ESPN
1 Alabama @ 11 Arkansas, 3:30, CBS
17 Stanford @ Notre Dame, 3:30, NBC
UCLA @ 4 Texas, 3:30, ABC or ESPN2
15 South Carolina @ 14 Auburn, 7:45, ESPN
Oregon State @ 3 Boise State, 8:00, ABC
21 West Virginia @ 12 Louisiana State, 9:15, ESPN 2
6 Oregon @ Arizona State, 10:30, FSN

As always, the photos today are via Mock Session

200 comments:

  1. BSU fans showed up today. Credit to their fans.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Picabo Street is the celebrity picker?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Picabo Street hasn't aged well at all.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wow. That was a little too easy for Michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Denard Robinson with yet another TD. Too bad the defense will let Bowling Green march down the field.

    ReplyDelete
  6. SHOELACE! WOW WHAT A CUTBACK!

    /It is just Bowling Green

    ReplyDelete
  7. Brian Griese: "Too much speed, too much grass."

That would explain how you hurt yourself "tripping over your dog" in Denver.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @RJBO: I heard Michigan made their bleachers thinner for they could complete their renovations. Is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I want to say yes. They really try to squeeze as many people in there as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  10. @RJBO: I'm a Penn State student. I went to the Penn State-Michigan game a couple of years ago in Ann Arbour. I didn't really like "The Big House" because it was too cramped. You can barely move in the stands.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jay, that's a legitimate beef. I'm not the smallest man in the world, and I've been bunched up there.

Devin Gardner beginning to loosen up.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Denard hurt his knee going down out of bounds after a 35 yard run.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Robinson hurt before facing Big Ten defenses? Rich Rod just wet himself.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @RJBO: I'm still bitter about that game. Michigan beat us 14-9 for their fist home win of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 14-0 Toledo. Purdue is in a bad place right now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Denard Robinson is done for the day. Per Quint Kessenich: "He did not tear his ACL."

    ReplyDelete
  17. FIU up 7-0 over Maryland. LET'S DO THIS SUN BELT.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There's a weather delay for UCF-KState? Serves FSN-National right for showing the Wildcats again.

/Red Bull Air Races in its stead on FS Detroit for now

    ReplyDelete
  19. @RJBO: I was wondering why CSN Bay Area was showing the Red Bull Air Races.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I see Czajkowski wasn't the only one to miss that FG for NC State. ESPN missed the kick themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This BGSU-Mich game isn't over yet. Nice drive by the Falcons.

/can't have an agita-free Michigan game against a cupcake

    ReplyDelete
  22. I can't believe Greg Robinson won a couple of Super Bowl rings as the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator. And those defenses were always good.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Heh. RichRod called timeout as the BG kicker missed the PAT, presumably to get a replay of the TD. Of course, the PAT was good.

    ReplyDelete
  24. To your point, Jay. Michigan had the 100th best defense in the nation last year, yardage wise. They are giving up 40 yards more this year than last.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Michigan is going to have to score a lot of points to beat Big Ten teams then.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ...and the Michigan TD is called back on a personal foul call.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The bend but don't break Michigan defense just shattered into a million pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can Denard Robinson come back...to play defense?

    ReplyDelete
  29. A Tater sighting. Must want to leave an impression before he transfers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Now the leak and sieve Michigan defense will give up another touchdown.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Forcier leads the TD drive! QB Controversy!

    /Philadelphia Eagles'd

    ReplyDelete
  32. What was Bowling Green thinking? 37 seconds is more than enough to score against Michigan.

    /back in 30 minutes

    ReplyDelete
  33. Note to self: Never wake up at 7:30 AM again just for the sake of watching Chelsea play Manchester City with Ian Darke announcing on ESPN.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Damn. Everything is a fucking blowout at this point.

Even my BU Huskies playing on the road at Millersville are winning via blowout.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My choice: listening to the 27-7 Bloomsburg game via online radio stream while desperately waiting for 3:30 to roll around.

    GO HUSKIES!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wischusen, on Forcier being in the game: "If you're just now joining us, this is not ESPN Classic and this is not a game from last year."

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like listening to extremely local broadcasts like this.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @RJBO: Since we're the designated large men of these weekly chats, what did you have for lunch? I went and had an Animal Burger from In-and-Out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @JFein The FIU/Maryland game isn't a blowout...

    /gets paper bag ready...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Keith, Almond Chicken dinner with Shrimp Fried Rice from a local Chinese food place.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Rob Stone: "Torrie Smith, there was some bumpin' and grindin' going on there."

    Best game going, Kris.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Justin: The Tennessee-UAB game isn't a blowout.

/Rocky Top must be drinking their sorrow's away.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Michigan-Indiana next week is on the U? Bleh.

    /doesn't have ESPNU in HD

    ReplyDelete
  44. @RJBO better than NC State/Ga Tech?

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Flag in the backfield." - BU PbP guy
"That indicates either a holding or a roughing." - BU analyst

    The penalty was offsides.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That game has some good back-and-forth action, now.

    /turns off FIU-UMD
    //no offense, Kris

    ReplyDelete
  47. of course, just as I say that, NC State goes back up 10 after the TD pass to TJ Graham

    ReplyDelete
  48. Could NC State really win the ACC?

    ReplyDelete
  49. @RJBO not offended in the least, I don't want to watch the Terps anymore either.

    /Fire Franklin & Friedgen

    ReplyDelete
  50. @RJBO: If you didn't notice, the Central Florida-Kansas State game is finally on. And K-State is losing to UCF.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ kt and Keith:

TOUCHDOWN HUSKIES!!! 37-7 Bloomsburg. Lol Millersville.

    ReplyDelete
  52. DA'REL SCOTT!!

/beat Duke nest week & the Terps will go to a bowl...

//I'll bet the mortgage on Duke

    ReplyDelete
  53. After a NASCAR promo, sponsored by Burger King:

Spielman: "That'll be a Whopper of a race, Dave."
Pasch: "Try the veal, Chris. You'll have two servings."

    ReplyDelete
  54. Keith, earlier I was just wondering why the Air Races were on instead of the game. I have no interest in UCF-KState.
Also, I don't trust NC State at all.

    ReplyDelete
  55. @RJBO: I have no interest in that game as well. Plus Joel Meyers is calling that game. Scum Lakers announcer.

    /bitter Kings fan

    ReplyDelete
  56. I see Phil Fullmer isn't on the CBS studio show. I guess they don't want him shitting all over Lane Kiffin again.

    ReplyDelete
  57. 31-20 Toledo over Purdue late in the 4th. Nice to see that Michigan isn't the only Big 10 team that can lose to them.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Brian Griese after a NASCAR promo: "What was that big thing holding the car? Was that the 'Big Green Machine?' 'Godzilla?'"

    ReplyDelete
  59. Heh? Wazzu is beating U$C and Kifffykins.

    ReplyDelete
  60. George O'Leary and his fake resume's are bright red. He enjoys the Florida sun a little too much.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Tied game in Knoxvull. Kiffykins left that school in a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Keith, for that reason alone, he shouldn't have taken that job in UCF. O'Leary needs SPF 1500: He squeezes the tube and out comes a burqa.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think this is the first time I've watched the College Football Today show on CBS. "Fly in the Ointment" segment? Really?

Brando with more BCS nightmare scenarios. Chug.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Phil Simms reproduced some crappy quarterbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  65. For the record, Keith. Fulmer has been bumped down to Inside College Football on CBS College Sports. He's sitting next to Brian Jones, who didn't realize Iowa City was West of the Mississippi.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Why is Eastern Michigan-Ohio State on ESPN?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Eastern Michigan on ABC and ESPN today? Did they just want to mail it in against Alabama-Arkansas on CBS? I don't think even EMU grads want to see Eastern.

    /looks in mirror

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bloomsburg 44, Millersville 7.

    FINAL

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hold on. You're a EMU grad? What year?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Where is Eastern Michigan located?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ypsilanti, Michigan, six miles east of the University of Michigan.

What a run by Terrelle Pryor. Yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  72. UAB kicker missed his fifth FG of the day. And that one could have won the game.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @ RJBO: For some reason, I always thought you were a few years older.......

    ReplyDelete
  74. I would guess RJBO is a good six years older than me. I was 16 back in 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've got Temple-PSU on my computer and Bama-Arkansas on my TV. Life is good.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Stop making me feel like an old man!

    /half-kidding

    ReplyDelete
  77. How do you drop that? That would have been a pick-six.

@RJBO: You're still younger than Kris.

    /Sorry old man Kris

    ReplyDelete
  78. @RJBO: I'm surprised you're rooting for Mallett.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Touchdown Temple. They are one of the favorites in the MAC.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I don't have any ill feelings for Mallett. He would've look as lost at Threet had he stayed at Michigan, especially with the wide receiver defections after Lloyd retired.

    ReplyDelete
  81. "Bernard Pierce pierces the endzone." - Chris Martin

    ReplyDelete
  82. The Fighting Charlie Batches having an uphill battle against anOSU today.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I honestly would not be surprised in the least if Temple wins this game.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Why didn't ABC/ESPN pick Temple-Penn State? I don't think many eyeballs are going to be on a 73-3 ass-handing, even if a name brand team like Ohio State is involved.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Maybe Trent Richardson isn't better than Mark Ingram. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Touchdown Temple. The PAT is botched. Owls lead it 13-6. Again, not surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Arkansas lucky to land on that DJ Williams fumble.

...and not to have that last pass picked.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sportspickle tweet: "Joe Paterno is thinking: 'I can't believe I lived long enough to see Temple become good at football.'"

    ReplyDelete
  89. How about Temple?

    /I hate the Owls

    ReplyDelete
  90. Houston plays the loudest, worst siren after a Cougar TD. Like a little kid imitating an ambulance siren into a megaphone.

    ReplyDelete
  91. McElroy with a soccer-like flop after that fumble.

    ReplyDelete
  92. False start negates the great defensive stop by Arkansas; Bama forced to punt.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow, Penn State got lucky on that play. Lucky.

    ReplyDelete
  94. EMU on the board! Celebrate RJBO!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Greg Childs the great catch, with the injury to boot.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If Childs doesn't have an ACL tear after that play, I'll be surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Catch stands. Bama's secondary getting shredded so far.

Childs' hamstring getting checked out, per Tracy Wolfson.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mallett = Jay Cutler

He'll throw more INT's than touchdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Temple leads it 13-9, but Sukay just got an INT. PSU ball in Temple territory with under 3 to go in the half.

    ReplyDelete
  100. FUCLA actually looks good against Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  101. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Arkansas doesn't have the defense to stop Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  103. ANOTHER Red Zone pick today in Fayetteville. Bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Mallett and McElroy trading INT's.

@RJBO: I wouldn't trust Kevin Prince with a BB gun.

    ReplyDelete
  105. This is like an ACC game. Except, you know, talent.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Bolden denied on 4th down on the QB sneak.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Temple takes a knee to end the half, up 13-9.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Millen: "Neuheisel doesn't trust his QB."

I had to delete that earlier comment, Keith. I confused Kevin Prince for Kevin Craft. Both named Kevin, both played for UCLA and both blow/blew.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Good God. Gilbert just threw another pick, fourth Texas turnover.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Garrett Gilbert is playing like a Freshman QB.

    ReplyDelete
  111. UCLA wants to make this game a little closer:

Prince fumble, then back-to-back flags on Hester.

    ReplyDelete
  112. UCLA leads Texas 13-3 at the half.

Arkansas to the Alabama half-yard line after some nice throws and a good run by Davis.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The chick in the pic after the pick looks like she's about to say, "Huh, shug?"

    ReplyDelete
  114. @RJBO: I'm laughing because I have relatives in Texas and that's how they talk.

    ReplyDelete
  115. HOLY SHIT. Richardson had a chance to take that all the way. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Saban looks like he's ready to kill someone.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Mayock: "Call that the Peek-a-boo screen."
If it involved the Picabo on College Gameday, it would also be called an eclipse.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Heh. UCLA only had 6 yards of passing in the 1st half. Prince matched that on his 1st throw of the 2nd half.

    ReplyDelete
  119. UCLA leads 20-3. Incredible.

/46 points away from reversing the 1997 "Route 66" game

    ReplyDelete
  120. I keep forgetting Texas has a Freshman QB.

    /Never Trust a Freshman

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'm probably the only one that cares about this, but the Philadelphia union currently have their 1st 3-goal lead ever.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Bernard Pierce is injured and being assisted off the field. Huge blow to Temple.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Holding wipes out a nice return by Penn State.

Martin: "I'm happy I put in new contacts, 'cause that was a blur."

    ReplyDelete
  124. SMITH RETURNS THE PUNT IT TO THE 6!!!!!!!

But there is a flag down that will bring the return back.

"I'm just glad I brought my contacts today because this guy is a blur." - Chris Martin on Davon Smith

    ReplyDelete
  125. Damn, Bama. Does Antonio Langham & George Teague still have eligibility?

Danielson: "Drew Brees doesn't have better footwork than Mallett did there." ?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Danielson on Ryan Mallett's height: "Shrunkenage. What difference does one inch make?"

    ReplyDelete
  127. Penn State has to settle for a FG. 13-12 Temple.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jesus Danielson is a tool. He compared Mallett to Brees.

    ReplyDelete
  129. @ RJBO: I'm sorry America has to see Eastern Michigan get romped like this on National TV.

    ReplyDelete
  130. "Bingo!"-Verne

How did that kicker make that?

    ReplyDelete
  131. EMU sports have always been terrible (with a few exceptions). Counting this monstrosity, Eastern will have a 16 game losing streak.

    ReplyDelete
  132. "If looks could kill, he is definitely upset now." - Charissa Thompson

    INTERCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  133. You'll go right out of bounds next time, McElroy. That half-a-stiff-arm didn't help.

    ReplyDelete
  134. "This will be close to a first down"-Verne

Richardson was a good two yards past the first down marker.

    ReplyDelete
  135. New York Life sponsoring the LOS on CBS.

    /no organ music, though

    ReplyDelete
  136. Eric Collins thinks he is the 2nd coming of Gus Johnson. The paramedics waiting outside the booth in case his screaming gives him a heart attack agree.*

    * - I do not know for sure if there are paramedics outside the booth.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Penn State fails in the red zone yet AGAIN. Field goal gives them a 15-13 lead.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Colin Wager is 5/5 on field goals today.

    /Offensive MVP

    ReplyDelete
  139. Martin: "What can Brown do for you? Not much on this play."

    ReplyDelete
  140. "What can Brown do for you? Not much on this play." - Chris Martin

    ReplyDelete
  141. Plenty of good seats still available at Paul Brown Stadium.

    /Kenny Mayne'd

    ReplyDelete
  142. 27-6 FUCLA

Texas didn't join the Pac-10 because they're afraid of UCLA.

    ReplyDelete
  143. 27-6 UCLA after the 38 yard scamper by Kevin Prince. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Wagner misses his 1st FG of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Verne: "Nick Saban seems fired up."

    Understatement.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Phillies clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight, though their magic number to clinch the NL East is currently at 2. A win tonight would reduce that number to 1.

    ReplyDelete
  147. This game has sideline brawl written all over it.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Can Penn State FINALLY score a touchdown and end this?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Davie on Ochocino's ride: "That was a Mark Jones wannabe signature edition."

    ReplyDelete
  150. Mallett has been getting drilled in the 2nd Half.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I'm setting up a live blog tonight for the Phillies, who can clinch a playoff spot with a win. Feel free to join and discuss college football.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Cool. Too bad the Giants-Rockies game is on MLB Network for me (Mets-Phillies in SF & Colorado markets).

    /no offense, Keith

    ReplyDelete
  153. @RJBO: But the Giants are in a tighter pennant race than the Phillies?

/I'm not watching either games tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  154. @ 49er16: Feel free to join in and talk about the college football games anyway. I don't mind.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Saban must be the luckiest coach in America. Teams just give Bama victories.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Keith, just for the sake of commenting in a Phillies live-blog, I'd like to see the game that's the main focus.

    /Oregon State-Boise State & WVU-LSU mostly for me tonight

    ReplyDelete
  157. Live blog is up and emails have been sent. I have to step out for about 20 minutes or so.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Then again, maybe I'll wait to step out til the end of the Arkansas game.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Already logged in; waiting for the end of Alabama-Arkansas.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Mallett is devolving into Jevan Snead in front of our eyes in this 4th.

    Timeout Arkansas.

    ReplyDelete
  161. UCLA putting the finishing touches on Texas. 34-12 Bruins.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Verne: "Field goal doesn't do the Razorbacks any good."

    ReplyDelete
  163. Haven't seen Bobby Williams since he was ran out of East Lansing.

    ReplyDelete
  164. ANOTHER Bama timeout as they had 10 on the field. Dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  165. "Noel Devine needs a new brake realignment"--Ron Franklin

    ReplyDelete
  166. HOLY SHIT! Foles with the TD pass to take the lead over Cal 10-9!!

/Forgot about Fox College Sports West
    //still up 'cause I'm wasted

    ReplyDelete
  167. Riley PICKED! But a fumble! STILL ARIZONA BALL!

    ReplyDelete
