Foul Ball: Kind of Sort of a Perfect Game

Detroit 3 Cleveland 0
: I think by now everyone knows how this game played out. Armando Galarraga was an out away from a perfect game and that was all taken away by first base umpire Jim Joyce. Jason Donald grounded to Miguel Cabrera who then threw to Galarraga who was covering first. Donald was clearly out and Joyce inexplicably called Donald safe. End of the perfect game and no history for Galarraga.

Jim Joyce admitted to blowing the call, "I don't know what to do. I just cost that kid a perfect game." He would go on to say, "Biggest call of my career, and I kicked the s**t out of it." I honestly feel bad for the guy. He knew he blew the call and was sincerely sorry for blowing it.

Los Angeles 1 Arizona 0, 14 Innings: For the fourth game in a row, the Arizona Diamondbacks lost on a walkoff. Meanwhile Arizona went 0-9 on their road trip against Colorado, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Arizona lost three games against the Dodgers on a walkoff balk, home run, and single. Fail!

Atlanta 2 Philadelphia 1: Omar Infante knocked in the game-winning two out run for the Braves in the eighth inning. This is the Braves eighth straight win as they continue to widen their lead in the NL East.

San Diego 5 NY Mets 1, 11 Innings: The Mets lose on a walkoff Grand Slam, ho hum.

Boston 6 Oakland 4: Once again the A's jumped on the Red Sox early and once again they blew the lead. The A's challenged David Ortiz in the fifth inning and paid dearly for their mistake. Ortiz blasted, which would prove to be the game-winning runs, a two-run home run to give the Red Sox the victory.

San Francisco 4 Colorado 1: See what happens when the Giants actually give Matt Cain more than two runs of run support. With RBI's from Aaron Rowand, Bengie Molina, and Pablo Sandoval, Cain worked eight innings to pick up the victory. Cain gave up a Troy Tulowitski home run in the fourth inning, but never allowed a Colorado base runner to reach 2nd base after that.

Seattle 2 Minnesota 1, 10 Innings: Poor Cliff Lee the guy got Cain'd(Don't worry I'll get to this meaning of this word later today). Lee pitched eight innings giving up five hits, one run, one walk, and striking out three but picked up the no-decision because his team gave him no run support in the game. On the night Ken Griffey Jr. retired, Ichiro knocked in the game-winning run in the tenth inning. Pretty fitting that the second most popular Mariner of all-time knocked in the game-winning run.

Honestly, Selig shouldn't overturn the call. The frivolous CC Sabathia protest in 2008 was denied. This should be as well. My initial reaction wasn't that Joyce blew the call, it was Cabrera still thinking he was at 3rd base, ranging in front of Guillen to get to the ball. Bleh. What's done is done...
