Joe Paterno is famous for two things. Coaching at Penn State for 44 years and his coke bottle glasses. Well now Joe Paterno is famous for only one thing. And no, he did not retire. Joe Pa decided to get Lasik eye surgery.“I had trouble reading for the last six months, so I went down to Philadelphia to the Penn Scheie Eye Institute,” the 83-year-old said. “And the guy says to me … I think we can fix that up. So they went in and did it. I don't really need glasses any more.”Joe Pa just doesn't look right without glasses. He's worn them since he started coaching at Penn State. Don't worry though, even Joe Pa thinks he looks weird without glasses.
“I feel strange.When I don't wear 'em, and I put on a sweater, I reach to take the glasses off and I don't have them on,” he said."Joe Pa and those glasses just go together. Look at that bobblehead they created for him. Oh by the way, you can buy an autograph pair of Joe Paterno's famous glasses. I can't wait to see them one day at a sports memorabilia convention.
