Foul Ball: How about an Ass Whipping?

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

15 Yankees 0 Mets: The most surprising thing of this game, wasn't the fact the Yankees shut out the Mets 15-0. The surprise was that the Mets starting pitcher was none other than Johan Santana. In his worst start of his career, Santana went three innings giving up nine hits and nine runs. Money well spent.

7 Giants 1 A's: Matt Cain threw a complete game giving up four hits, one run, and striking out nine for the Giants. San Francisco swept Oakland for the first time since 2001. Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run home run for the Giants. And Nate Schierholtz hit a three-run inside the park home run for the Giants. The Giants pitchers combined to give up only three runs to the A's for the entire series.

11 Phillies 6 Red Sox: Just not a good day for the ace's of ballclubs. First Santana embarrasses himself, then Josh Beckett. After the Red Sox took an early 5-0 lead, Beckett allowed the Phillies to come back and tie the game. Then Beckett couldn't get an out in the seventh inning, which lead to a Phillies six-run inning. Jimmy Rollins who has been struggling, homered and drove in three runs in the game. I saw where the Phillies are bringing up Tyler Walker for the bullpen. Word of advice to JFein and James Craven, Tyler Walker sucks.

6 Pirates 3 Tigers: First the Red Wings loose the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh, then the Detroit Tigers lose two out of three to the Pirates. Worst of all though for Detroit, Dontrelle Willis is looking worse and worse. After coming back to Detroit after missing considerable time because of anxiety, Willis has gone 1-4 with a 7.49 ERA. Against the Pirates Willis went 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and six runs. But it's how many walks to strikeouts Willis has thrown. Against Pittsburgh Willis walk eight batters and only struck out 1. His WHIP is 1.70.

3 Cubs 2 Twins: Ryan Theriot single in the ninth inning with one out and a tied game would be all what the Cubs needed to beat Minnesota. Carlos Gomez had a great game for the Twins in the loss. Gomez went 2-4, with a home run and a stolen base.

11 Marlins 3 Blue Jays: The fish enjoyed their trip to Canada. Florida swept Toronto. Ronny Paulino homered twice for the Marlins and drove in three runs. Josh Johnson pitched a complete game giving up three runs and seven hits. Brett Carroll and Hanley Ramirez each drove in two runs for Florida. I enjoy Marlins on my wall though.

8 Astros 3 Diamondbacks: In the only non-interleague game, the Hunter Pence and Lance Berkman each hit home runs to lead the Astros over Arizona. Brian Moehler picked up the win for Houston.

7 Rockies 1 Mariners: I guess firing your manager can fire up a team. Colorado has won 11 straight with sweeps over St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Seattle. Not even tornado warnings in the Denver area can slow down this team.

  2. Slight correction: The 5-0 Red Sox lead was Saturday's game where the Sox won 11-6. Yesterday's game started 4-1 Boston, before the Phils started to rally to take a 5-4 lead, only to lose that lead on a Josh Beckett solo shot (no typo exists in that statement), and then the Phils went on there 7th inning tear. The Sawx would get 1 run back in the 8th but that was that.

/Thinks it is quite odd how in 2 days the Red Sox and the Phillies both beat each other 11-6.
