This should not come as much of a surprise as Peavy has expressed nothing but disinterest in pitching in the AL, but Jake Peavy is utilising his no trade clause and therefore he cannot and will not be traded to the Chicago White Sox as was previously planned by the Padres and the White Sox. Ken Williams struck again, but Jake Peavy declined overtures from the White Sox on Thursday to become the latest impact addition made during Williams' nine-year reign as general manager. And while this is not surprising, the biggest thing I can think of right now is the awkwardness that I'm sure Jake Peavy now feels as a Padre. He is pitching for a team that wanted to trade him away! Talk about awkward....
"Right now, this is the best place for me and my family," Peavy said in a statement on Thursday evening.
The Padres and White Sox agreed on the terms of a trade early Thursday that would have sent the All-Star right-hander to Chicago. Peavy, who has a no-trade clause and must approve any deal, met with Padres manager Bud Black after Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Giants to discuss the White Sox interest in the Padres' ace.
Man why can't he leave?

I'm sure Peavy's contract also had a full "No Hawk Harrelson" clause.
ReplyDeleteThe White Sox should be competitive enough to keep pace with the others. I really like the White Sox ; they’ve always been my favourite teams in MLB.
