Foul Ball: 20-1 !!!

Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap

Editor's Note: JFein will still take you through the weekend. This will be my only post from here on out. You see yesterday I had to travel to my parents house. And today we are taking a trip for Memorial Weekend. I will not have any connection to the Internet, so you have the great JFein to take you from here. But before I go, I thought I would leave you with one more Foul Ball post before the weekend. Enjoy!

20 Twins 1 White Sox: No that score is not a typo. The Minnesota Twins really did score 20 runs against Chicago. I'm sure Mt. Ozzie is pleased. Here's the strange part, Chicago starter Bartolo Colon gave up 8 runs but only one of them was earned. Wilson Betemit's two errors lead to the seven runs scored in the first two innings for Minnesota. Joe Mauer drove in six runs on a grand slam and two doubles. Scott Podsednik was brought in by Chicago to provide the team with speed. Instead he has been picked off at 1st base for three straight games. At least he has a hot wife.

Mt. Ozzie Quote, Part 1: From the AP: “We did everything wrong we could do,” Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. “You name it, we did it wrong.” If you allow a team to score 20 runs on you, I would say you did everything wrong.

Mt. Ozzie Quote, Part 2: “I hope Peavy didn’t watch the scoreboard today. He might say no,” said Guillen, whose club lost for the sixth time in eight games. “It would be nice to have him. If not, we have to move on and continue to fight.” I bet Ozzie was really steamed after this development.

Jake Peavy Update: Jake Peavy used his no-trade clause to turn down the trade between San Digeo and Chicago. He will stay a Padre, while the White Sox rely on Bartolo Colon.

4 Tigers 3 Rangers: Detroit had themselves a nice little home stand. They swept both AL West foes Oakland and Texas. More impressively they swept a red-hot Texas team. Miguel Cabrera's RBI single in the eighth inning would be the winning run for Detroit. Edwin Jackson pitched eight strong innings for Detroit giving up three runs and seven hits. The Tigers though looked like the San Francisco Giants by giving up five stolen bases in the game.

12 Phillies 5 Reds: The Phillies took advantage of another bandbox by hitting four home runs and knocking in 12 runs. Wait till they take their traveling circus to the Bronx for a weekend series at Coors Field East. Chase Utley homered and drove in four runs for Philadelphia. Joe Blanton picked up the victory.

Who's older? Moyer or the pitching coach?

3 Cardinals 1 Cubs: Adam Wainwright went 8 2/3 innings giving up five hits, one run, and seven strikeouts. Albert Pujols homered in the game for St. Louis. The Cardinals swept the Cubs but are still two games behind Milwaukee for first place.
