Much has been made about the high ticket prices at Yankee Stadium. This has resulted in much publicity about the empty seats that can be clearly seen on T.V. The Yankees finally acknowledge they had high ticket prices and sort of lowered the price. So did the Yankee Stadium employees turn around paying customers?
Apparently they did last night against the Red Sox. The game was delayed for two hours because of rain.
According to the Daily News, Yankee Stadium employees told fans the game had been rained out. But when the game wasn't rained out, and the play was going to resume, they did not allow the fans back in the stadium.
"When a 9:20 p.m. start time was eventually announced over the public address system, a crowd on the sidewalk outside Gate 6 tried to get back into the Stadium, only to have the employees working the turnstiles promptly close the doors in their faces. Panicked fans began racing up and down the sidewalk, trying to find a way back into the ballpark, while others remained at Gate 6 either pleading or demanding to be let back in.
"We talked to the security personnel, who said there was zero chance they were going to play the game," said Tom Stuart, a 27-year-old from Astoria who waited out most of the rain delay before leaving with his girlfriend. "We spent three hours drinking beer - you can't drink much because they're 10 bucks apiece - now they're going to play a game in front of 35 fans."
That's a great business plan. Piss off your paying customers.
I have always had this theory why American car companies are in such deep trouble, while foreign car companies are not on the verge of Chapter 11. You see American car companies flicked their thumbs at people who had been loyal to their product for years. They kept jacking up the prices for cars and pickups, while Toyota and Honda kept their prices at a reasonable level. Eventually American people stopped buying American cars, and we all see what has happened to GM and Chrysler.
Even New Yorkers have their limits. The Yankees were too arrogant to realize this. Now they are being embarrassed in front of millions of people around the country.

The Yankees are to arrogant to even get out of their own way.

ReplyDeleteI thought Yankees' PR was going to be better with Hal more involved in the day-to-day than Hank Steinbrenner, as theorized by SbB. Obviously not.
