When a team receives the opportunity to host an All-Star event, it's their opportunity to show the entire nation what is so great about their team. When the Giants hosted the 2007 MLB All-Star game, San Fransisco pulled out all of the stunts. The Giants wanted to show everyone how beautiful their ballpark is and why San Fransisco should be a destination for all people.
Well this weekend, the Phoenix Suns blew their golden opportunity.
They showed not only to fans, but to players how dysfunctional the Phoenix Suns really are.
During All-Star weekend in Phoenix, there were rumors that the Suns would fire their coach Terry Porter. Which were true, they fired him today. There were rumors that they are shopping around Amare Stodemire.
They showed the NBA how dysfunctional the team really is. You have an owner(Robert Sarvar) and a GM(Steve Kerr) who are completely clueless. Then you realize this is the Phoenix Suns we are talking about.
This is a team that let go Mike D'Antoni and his fun-and-gun offense. This is the same team that low-balled Joe Johnson and watched him leave for Atlanta. This is the same team that traded Shawn Marion in his prime. This is the same team that tried to plug Shaq into their system only to slow down their fast paste offense. This is the same team that thought Terry Porter would slow down the tempo to benefit Steve Nash.
Why would a prospective free agent, even consider Phoenix right now. LeBron James and Chris Bosh want no part of a team that wants to save money instead of win a championship. This is what happens when a banker owns your team.
Sarvar has always been more concerned with saving money. That's the only reason why he would have low-balled both Johnson and D'Antoni. Sarver has turned a once fun franchise into one of the most depressed.
The Phoenix Suns ruined their own party this weekend and gave a chance to others to see what it is really like in the valley of the sun.
