Foul Ball: Wild Game in Seattle, Anger in Baltimoe & Bizarre Game in New York

St. Louis 0 Philadelphia 2, 11 Innings: Cole Hamels and four Phillies relievers combined for a one-hit victory over the Cardinals to stop a four game skid. Hamels pitched eight innings giving up one hit and no runs but picked up the no-decision because Adam Wainwright was equally dominating. Wainwright pitched six innings giving up no runs and six hits and also picked up the no-decision because of a lack of run support. Placido Polanco broke the scoring drought in the 11th inning with a home run which proved to be the winning run.

Atlanta 8 San Diego 0: Thankfully for the Giants sake, the Padres lost two out of three against Atlanta, including being shutout in the third game by Tim Hudson. Hudson pitched seven innings giving up four hits, zero runs, and striking out four to improve his record to 10-5 on the year. Six Braves hitters drove in runs including two by Jason Hayward and two by Alex Gonzalez to go along with his four hits.

Florida Puerto Rico 3 Colorado 2: For the second time in four games, the Puerto Rico Marlins defeated the Rockies on a walkoff. The great Emilio Bonifacio hit a pinch hit triple in the ninth inning of a tied game. Ronny Paulino drove in Emilio with a single and the Marlins once again beat the Rockies on a walkoff. Josh Johnson picked up the no-decision for Florida while his ERA sits at 1.61 for the year while his WHIP is at 0.97. I think we have a new Cy Young Award winner in the National League.

Detroit 5 Toronto 2: Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Justin Verlander struck out five in eight innings to help Detroit defeat Toronto during a day game. Detroit is now two games out of first place in the AL Central.

Baltimore 0 Minnesota 5: Nice to know Gary Darling can fuck teams over not known as the A's or Giants. Seriously check out his Wikipedia page and read about the time he threw out both Bruce Bochy and Ron Wotus in the same game.  Darling ejected Orioles third baseman Ty Wiggington, manager Jaun Manuel, and bench coach Rick Kranitz in the seventh inning for arguing an out. Wigginton was especially heated, even turning red, arguing that JJ Hardy was tagged out on a aborted base stealing attempt. Darling missed the call, he frequently misses calls at first base, where Hardy was clearly out. By the way Carl Pavano pitched his fifth complete game of the year. Oh and a fan ran onto the field delaying play for five minutes.

Texas 3 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2:  Cliff Lee out-dueled fellow All-Star Jered Weaver to pick up his first victory as a Rangers pitcher. Lee pitched 8 1/3 innings and was pulled by Rangers coke snorter manager Ron Washington after the first out in the ninth inning. Washington was booed by the Texas crowd, but it was justified because of Lee had already thrown 99 pitches and the typical Texas heat was baring down on Lee. Lee gave up five hits, two runs, and struck out four.

Seattle 6 Boston 8, 13 Innings: John Lackey took a no-hitter into the eighth inning having it broke up by a clean Josh Bard single. Lackey should have at least picked up the victory for the night, but couldn't because Jonathon Papelbon blew the save. Seattle came back on Boston scoring five runs in the ninth to force extra innings. In the 13th inning former Athletics Nation whipping boy Eric Patterson drove in the two game-winning runs for Boston and Ramon Ramirez did what Papelbon couldn't do in the ninth.

New York 10 Kansas City 4: Another bizarre game. The Royals had 14 hits, 5 walks, 4 steals against the Yankees and still lost. David DeJesus injured his wrist against the outfield wall on a fly ball, dropping the ball and causing Derek Jeter to hit an inside-the-park home run. DeJesus, a possible trade piece, will probably be out of action for a while.

Video of the Day: I don't know if this video is racially insensitive or funny as hell. I'll go with the latter.

  1. What else can you expect from an umpiring crew that had Darling at 1st and Bill Hohn and his stupid glasses behind the plate?

  2. Seeing what the Astros want for Oswalt, I doubt the Phillies will trade for him.

  4. Not to mention Josh Johnson has a league-leading WAR of 5.0 (for starting pitchers)

I think you might be right about Josh Johnson and Cy Young.
