Minnesota 7 Chicago 6: The White Sox surly won't forget about this series. Entering the four-game series with the Twins, the White Sox were 41/2 game up on the Twins in the division. After the series, the White Sox are now a game and a half up on the Twins after Minnesota took 3 out of 4 from them. Sunday will be particularly disheartening because the Chicago bullpen blew a three run lead in the ninth inning topped off by a game-losing error by Alex Rios. Delmon Young singled to tie the game and then Rios air-mailed a ball into the White Sox dugout to score the game-winning run. Little Leaguers don't even make that error Alex.
Ozzie Guillen Quote: Ozzie going all Captain Obvious on us. From the AP: “If we don’t win against all the teams in our division, we’re done,” said Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen.
Cleveland 7 Detroit 2: The Indians swept the Tigers at home in a four-game series for the first time since 1991. The highlight of the game came in the first inning when Indians shortstop Jhonny Peralta hit an inside-the-park home run. The home run was special because Tigers outfielder Ryan Rayburn crashed through the bullpen gate and then almost throwing out Peralta at home. (Sorry for the poor video quality. It's the only one I could find.)
San Francisco 4 NY Mets 3 in 10 innings: I'm still steamed about this game. The Giants scored the winning run in the ninth inning only to have it taken away from them. Travis Ishikawa tied the game with a two-run double in the ninth inning. Then while at third base, Freddy Sanchez hit a grounder to David Wright, Wright threw to home and Henry Blanco missed the tag. Game over, the Giants won. Only Phil Cuzzi didn't see it that way and called Ishikawa out. Brian Wilson gave up the game-winning run in the tenth inning in a game the Giants had already won! Thanks Phil Cuzzi, scumbag.
Boston 2 Texas 4: Rangers pitcher C.J. Wilson struck out a career high ten batters in 6 2/3 innings of work to help Texas take three out of four games from Boston. The Rangers took the lead in the fourth inning off of a Adrian Beltre fielding error. The Red Sox are now 6.5 games behind the Yankees for first place in the AL East and 3.5 games behind Tampa Bay in the Wild Card.
New York 9 Tampa Bay 5: The Yankees took two out of three games against Tampa Bay and now lead the Rays by 3.5 games in the AL East. That's the good news. The bad news, they're going to have to play without Andy Pettitte for the next four to five weeks. Pettitte injured his groin in the third inning and will immediately be placed on the disabled list. The Yankees, for now, will not be looking to add any help to the rotation through a trade.
The Giants game was brutal yesterday. The hitters looked like crap for the first 8 innings, then looked great in the 9th inning only to have the win taken away from them.
