Kansas City 4 Minnesota 6: In three games at Kansas City, the Twins scored 36 runs. Delmon Young homered and drove in three runs. Jason Repko also homered for the Twins. Royals starting pitcher Brian Bannister gave up five runs, 11 hits, and two home runs in six innings of work. Before the game, the Royals traded outfielder Scott Podsednik to the Dodgers.
Philadelphia 7 Arizona 1: Uber Phillies prospect Dominic Brown made his debut against the Diamondbacks by driving in two runs off of two hits. Roy Halladay pitched another complete game giving up six hits, one run, no walks, and striking out nine. Carlos Ruiz went three-for-four with three RBIs in the game for the Phillies.
NY Mets 7 St. Louis 8, 13 Innings: The Cardinals jumped out to a 7-3 lead only to give up four runs to the Mets in the eighth inning. Johan Santana gave up 13 hits and 7 runs in 5 2/3 innings before finally being pulled. Albert Pujols singled in the game-winning run in the top of the 13th and Ryan Franklin picked up the save.
Tampa Bay 7 Detroit 4: The Tigers are sinking like a sunken ship since the All-Star break. The Tigers are 3-11 since the break and were just no-hit on Monday night. They're on the verge of being swept in a four-game series for the second time since the break. The question has to be ask: how long does Manager Jim Leyland and GM Dave Dombrowski last in Detroit? Injuries certainly haven't helped, but what about that pitching staff? Another depressing year in Detroit.

ReplyDeleteDombrowski traded a halfway decent prospect for J-honny Peralta under the impression that Miguel & the Mud Hens are "still in it." If the Tigers were owned by anyone other than The Pizza Man (former GM Randy Smith had as many chances as Matt Millen), both would be gone. They'll porbably both be back next year when some dead money comes off the books.
