This blog post is over a year old, but nevertheless is current to events that are about to take place. David Gladow of NOLA.com listed the top ten Gus Johnson freakouts during the NCAA Tournament. Gladow listed Johnson's call from the Gonzaga vs. UCLA back in 2006 as number 1. My personnel favorite Gus Johnson call though is from the Vermont-Syracuse game back in 2005. When Vermont's T.J. Sorrentine took an ill-advised 28-foot shot with time running out in overtime, Gus Johnson has one of his best moments ever.
Why or Why Not Georgia Tech Coach Paul Hewitt Should Be Fired
Two authors from the Georgia Tech blog 'From the Rumble Seat' play good cop/bad cop on why or why not coach Paul Hewitt should be fired. Both authors bring up great points for and against Hewitt. Here's the number one argument, why Georgia Tech should keep or fire Hewitt.
On The BubbleWinfield: Hewitt may not be meeting your expectations but he is meeting reality. We have never consistently been better than North Carolina or Duke. Bobby Cremins kept us above average in the ACC while Paul Hewitt is keeping us in the ballpark of where we've always been in years of parity.
Bird: Frustrating half court offense is turnover prone. Lack of explosive transition offense since departure of Jarrett Jack. Defense fades in and out of conference play. Heavy reliance on underclassmen in offense because of poor recruiting and/or poor player development. All of these factors have led to a majority of the losses on the season and previous seasons.
The Big XII was on the verge of seven of their teams making the NCAA tournament. But after Missouri's disastrous loss to Nebraska, the Big XII may only get six teams in the tournament. Missouri lost to the 12th seeded Nebraska in the Big XII tournament and will now have to wait patiently to see if they even make the tournament. It will be a long for days for the Missouri Tigers.
An Even Better Story
Remember Anthony Johnson who plays for Montana? Last night in the Big Sky Championship, Johnson scored 42 points as the Grizzlies came back to beat Weber State and win the Big Sky Championship. If you thought that story was cool, then you have to read about his back story.
After high school, Johnson all but gave up on his dream of playing college basketball. He met his future wife Shaunte Nance, who also plays basketball, and she convinced the Yakima Valley Community College to also give her boyfriend a spot on the basketball team. Johnson's career blossomed and he was starting to receive Scholarship offers from multiple schools. Johnson though would only go to a school that would give Shaunte a basketball scholarship. And that's how Anthony Johnson ended at Montana, Shaunte Nance-Johnson also plays basketball for the Montana Grizzlies.
