I love the Friday after Thanksgiving. There is always a great slate of college football games to watch while you have the day off from school or work. Three games stand out this week, Alabama/Auburn, West Virginia/Pittsburgh, and the nigh cap featuring Boise State vs. Nevada. The BSU vs. Nevada game should be the best of the night. Nevada is red hot right now, while Boise State is looking to stay undefeated and claim a BCS bowl bid. Should be a fun day.
Unfortunately I will not be around to update this thread. That should not stop you though from commenting on the games that you are watching. Have fun and leave comments.
Here's the Announcing Schedule courtesy of JFein.
I'm not sure if there is anyone around to answer my question (especially with Rutgers-Louisville the only game on basic cable right now) but if Alabama or Florida loses today and then wins the SEC Championship, are they still in the BCS championship game? What if both teams lose today? Is the SEC title game still a de facto semifinal game?
ReplyDeleteOof. I forgot Illinois-Cincy started. Regardless, there is little way that game is not Cincy blowing out a bad Big 10 team.
ReplyDeleteWow, Spielman is in the booth. As an announcer, he is by no means great, but as a man, I have a whole heck of a lot of respect for him.
ReplyDeleteCrap. Ohio is beating Temple 13-3 right now. The winner of that game will face Central Michigan in the MAC Championship game.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose a game right now to watch, that would be it (it's on ESPNU). Then again, I'm a Philly fan and that recommendation totally reeks of biasness.
@JFein, to answer your first question, yes the SEC game is still the de facto semifinal.
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't know if you know this, Bob Griese lost his first wife in the 1990's.
Uh Oh Illinois! Now Cincy is running high now.
ReplyDeleteCincy is now running away from Illinois after Illinois scored the first touchdown of the game.
ReplyDeleteCincy has scored 28 unanswered points since Illinois scored the first touchdown of the game.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: All right! That's one way to get out of it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI was out for the past few hours getting brunch with my family and searching for an AT&T Store for a new phone, which we were unable to find.
Temple got handled pretty good by Ohio so it will be Ohio, and not Temple, facing Ray Bentley's Central Michigan Chippewas in the MAC Championship.
ReplyDeleteTemple now moves to 8-3 so that should still hopefully be enough to get them into a bowl game, despite being from the less than desirable MAC.
"This game is all about who will get to rub it in for the next 365 days." - Tim Brando
ReplyDeletei guess Uncle Verne and Gary need to rest up for the Tebow orgy tomorrow.
ReplyDelete@JFein couldn't find an AT&T store in suburban Philly? that's crazy.
The Cincy-Pitt game next week is also going to be really good.
ReplyDeleteTOUCHDOWN AUBURN!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd here we go in the Iron Bowl!
Touchdown Auburn
ReplyDeleteThat the most excited I've heard Bolerjack.
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE CATCH AND RUN FOR AN AUBURN TD!
ReplyDelete@ kt: Bah, we did not look too too hard. There's 4 or so in the King of Prussia Mall. 10 minutes from my house, but something about today being Black Friday tells us that that place is better off avoided today.
ReplyDeleteIn case you guys didn't hear, Tiger Woods has been seriously injured in a car accident.
ReplyDeleteNo word yet, other than that.
Now Auburn attempts a onside kick and recovers.
ReplyDeleteWAR EAGLE
what a brilliant play call
ReplyDeleteONSIDE KICK RECOVERED BY AUBURN!!!
ReplyDeleteCollege football rivalry games are always great, regardless of the records of the teams.
Wow. No Keith, I had not heard that yet. I certainly hope that he will be fine.
ReplyDeleteAuburn is pulling out all the tricks today.
ReplyDeleteI think Craig Bolerjack had some 5-hour energy or something before the start of this game.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why 27 of Alabama should be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
ReplyDeleteFIRE SEC REFS!
Another Auburn touchdown!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Auburn!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite goal line play. A play-action pass to your tight end.
Time for leftovers from Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteAspeaking of people that drink way too much 5-hour energy, Jimmy Football is on my TV.
ReplyDeleteAuburn's defense has been very impressive today.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Auburn's defense.
ReplyDeleteTiger Woods has apparently been released from the hospital.
ReplyDelete@JFein, Twitter is blowing up saying that Tiger might have gotten into a fight with his wife and that's why he was leaving his house at 2 in the mourning.
ReplyDeleteGotta love rumors.
Nothing quite like the day after Thanksgiving and Ron Franklin on my TV. Good day to all.
ReplyDeleteOr he could have been leaving early to get a good deal on Black Friday. That's a possibility as well.
ReplyDelete@JFein: That's what I've been saying! He was just leaving to beat the crowds at Best Buy.
ReplyDeleteAlabama's defense has really settled down after that ferocious start by Auburn.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Or Target. Or JCPenney. Or Macy's. Or Sears. Or Radioshack.
ReplyDeleteHow was that not intercepted?????
ReplyDeleteWow! That would have been an incredible interception.
ReplyDeleteAlabama has comeback and tied the game.
ReplyDeleteBad turnover by Auburn. You can't afford those if you want to win this game.
ReplyDelete8 rushes for 10 yards for Mark Ingram. Colt McCoy will win the Heisman this year.
ReplyDeleteAuburn just caught a huge break. Tiffin hardly ever misses FG's.
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible shank by Tiffin, the Bama kicker. Unless it was tipped, that kick was nothing short of dreadful.
ReplyDeleteAuburn could score before halftime.
ReplyDeleteAuburn had their chance to get back momentum. Now Alabama could possibly score before halftime.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure how much of a big tradition it is to have college football games played the Friday after Thanksgiving, but I must say that it has given me something fun to do on this otherwise dull afternoon.
ReplyDelete/Not a Black Friday person
If I were a cable company, I'd want to be in Barbados right about now as well.
ReplyDeleteWell I know the Auburn-Alabama and Nebraska-Colorado games have always played on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Other than that though, I agree with you. Thank God for football on such a dull afternoon where it's raining where I'm at.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's cloudy, chilly, and windy where I am.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I have a feeling that Alabama will pull away in this game?
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I say that A DEEP BALL TOUCHDOWN FOR AUBURN!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Auburn!
ReplyDeleteThe UFL is playing their Championship game today. Wasn't it yesterday they were playing their first game?
ReplyDeleteAlabama turns the ball over on downs.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Seemingly, yes.
ReplyDeleteI could not even tell you who is in the championship game.
Auburn stuffs Ingram twice with one yard to go for a Alabama first down. I'm smelling an upset.
ReplyDeleteHigh Surf Advisery warning in the Bay Area. San Francisco saw 25 foot swells hit beaches yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAnd just think about it, the Mavericks Surfing tournament is just around the corner.
The UFL is so desperate for viewers that they are streaming their games on their own website for free.
ReplyDeleteI give the UFL until February before they cease operations and go out of business.
ReplyDeleteWow, the UFL has some hideout uniforms.
ReplyDeleteFlorida leads Las Vegas 7-3 at the start of the 3rd quarter.
@JFein: I watched the first UFL game between Las Vegas and San Francisco, and those uniforms started giving me a headache after a quarter.
ReplyDelete21-20 Auburn with 24 seconds left in the 3rd.
ReplyDeleteAuburn holds Alabama to another field goal.
ReplyDeleteAuburn 21 Alabama 20 with a few seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Wow! Four teams I despise will be playing on CBS next Saturday. UNC vs. Kentucky in college basketball and Alabama vs. Florida in college football.
ReplyDeleteDid Craig Bolerjack just say "Labama"?
ReplyDeleteThat Alabama-Florida game should at least be a good football game....
ReplyDeleteOof. Auburn downs a punt at the 2-yard line.
ReplyDeleteWait???? Is that J.P. Losman the QB of the Las Vegas Locos? LOL
"This is called the Green Zone." - Steve Beuerlein
ReplyDeleteWTF?
Auburn needs to score here. No way their defense holds on forever.
ReplyDeleteAlabama now at the Auburn 39.
ReplyDeleteJones to the 28. They are in a long field goal range now.
ReplyDeleteRichardson to the 12!!!
ReplyDeleteTold you Auburn needed a score because their defense wouldn't be able to hold Alabama late in this game.
ReplyDelete"If Alabama wins this football game, this will be known as The Drive." - Craig Bolerjack
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Alabama with 1:24 to go.
ReplyDeleteAnother upset bid gone to waste this year.
What a great play-call. A play-action pass to the tight end. Why don't more teams do this at the goaline?
ReplyDelete2-pointer attempt is picked off!!!!
ReplyDeleteAuburn can win it with a TD. They have one timeout left.
And McElroy throws a pick during the 2point conversion.
ReplyDeleteAuburn still has a chance.
"Alabama fans will remember this scoring drive as The Drive." - Craig Bolerjack
ReplyDeleteRough start to the drive.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Auburn keep trying to dink and dunk it???
ReplyDeleteTHEY'RE TAKING TOO MUCH TIME!!!!!!
This is pathetic clock management.
ReplyDeleteWTF? Auburn is destroying their chances by not throwing down the field.
ReplyDeleteSimply awful.
ReplyDeleteFire Gene Chizik.
Ooh. Just in time with 1 second left.
ReplyDeleteHere we go......
Knocked away. Bama wins. He threw that too soon.
ReplyDelete@JFein: Total panic throw. He had plenty of time to let his receivers get into the end zone.
ReplyDeleteGo Florida State!
ReplyDeleteAnd then if the Noles win, go Gators in the SEC title game! I might even donate to 5 charities if that's the case, just to inspire Tebow to win that game after losing to FSU.
I mean really, is it just me or is Alabama/Florida vs. Texas an uninteresting championship game?
That whole drive was panic; trying to work out every little kink instead of snapping the ball and managing the clock appropriately. Simply awful.
ReplyDelete@JFein: Nope it's not you. Texas has virtually played in a shitty conference, while Florida really never had that one defining game.
ReplyDeleteAnyways I'm going to check out the end of the Nebraska-Colorado game.
We're getting Thunder showers here. Kind of amazing because the weather is so cold and you usually need hot weather and cold weather to produce thunderstorms.
ReplyDeleteThe UFL analyst is saying how a horsecollar tackle was a good move on the play.
ReplyDeleteSo much for safety first......a concept the UFL takes more serious than the NFL.
Yes.......believe it or not I am watching the end of the UFL championship. Although to defend my coolness, I've got Nebraska-Colorado on my TV while I am watching the free stream courtesy ufl-football.com
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Nebraska. They are now up 28-14 with 6:43 to go in the game.
ReplyDeleteGO HUSKERS!!!! BEAT TEXAS!!!
I have Comcast, so I don't have to watch the UFL internet stream.
ReplyDelete@ Keith: Instead of an open thread, do you want to put up a live blog of all the championship games on Saturday?
ReplyDelete@JFein: Yeah because that is the last college football Saturday of the weekend. You don't have plans next Saturday?
ReplyDeleteI have Comcast (I think) and I have the stream. Odd.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: No. Besides, it's a weekend. If I have actual stuff to do, I can always do it on Friday.
ReplyDelete@JFein: Sounds like a plan then. We will live blog next weeks college football games.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWow....this UFL is a whose who of the NFL rejects.
ReplyDeleteJP Losman
Brooks Bollinger
Michael Pittman
Matt "63-yard Field Goal Against The Eagles" Bryant.
And Jim Haslett is a coach.
2-minute warning and the game is tied at 17 with Las Vegas having the ball at their own 37 and JP Losman on the field trying to lead a championship winning drive.
ReplyDeleteI could not be more giddy!!!
In all seriousness, this 4th quarter, while far from great premium football, has not been awful, although I can imagine that the 1st 3 quarters where the only scoring was 1 Florida touchdown and 1 Las Vegas FG was nothing short of dreadful.
Not only is Jim Haslett one of the coaches, but Dennis "They are who we thought they were" Green and Jim Fassel also coach in the UFL.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, 49er16, that does sound like a good plan! ;-)
ReplyDelete@JFein: You have to see the weather where I'm at. Hale is raining down everywhere. And it never Hale's in this area. That tells you right there how cold it's been today here.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about Fassel. He's the Vegas coach. Haslett coaches Florida.
ReplyDeleteDennis Green is the coach of your hometown California Redwoods! Hey, they played a game or 2 at AT&T Park....
@JFein: No one showed up for those games at the Phone Booth.
ReplyDeleteShowing the ingenuity and grit and spectacular play that made him an NFL stand out, with a championship drive at steak, JP Losman did a fantastic job of going 3 and out.
ReplyDeleteMichael Spurlock???
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone in this game that wasn't an NFL reject to begin with?
I've never in my life seen this type of weather before. Ice is falling from the sky.
ReplyDeleteMichael Spurlock played for the Niners last season.
ReplyDelete"What an effort! Oh, brother." - Dave Sims, PbP man of UFL on Versus.
ReplyDelete@ 49er16: You've never had sleet before?
ReplyDeleteIt happens all the time out here. Careful. That shit is a mess to go out in.
I'm amazed how much you've gotten into that game.
ReplyDelete@JFein: We've had sleet before, but I've never seen it come down that hard before. Also it's very rare for this area to have a sleet storm. It never gets cold enough.
ReplyDeleteWell, the UFL has managed to have something happen that has never happened in the Super Bowl era in the NFL: championship game in overtime.
ReplyDelete17-17.
And in the UFL, both teams are guaranteed 1 possession.
This is how it should be. Both teams guaranteed 1 possession.
ReplyDeleteIt's a championship game and there is not much else to do, so might as well try to get into it.
ReplyDeleteBesides, the 4th quarter was not awful.
"I have a feeling this is going to come down to somebody making a play in overtime." - Dave Sims
No shit.
I love the refs uniforms. They look gang members for the Bloods.
ReplyDeleteBOLLINGER THROWS AN INT!!!! VEGAS BALL AT THE FLORIDA 15!!!!
ReplyDeleteJP Losman did not screw that up. I'm amazed.
ReplyDeletePoor Doug Flutie. Goes from ABC college football halftime crew to the UFL. And if that's not bad, he was replaced by the Bachelor Jesse Palmer.
ReplyDeleteOoo....Icing the kicker in the UFL. No wonder the Rams didn't keep Hasslet last year after he was the interim coach.
ReplyDeleteThey get rings in the UFL?
ReplyDeleteWow.....Graham Gano is in the UFL....
ReplyDeleteAND JIM FASSEL IS A FOOTBALL CHAMPION!!!!! The players are carrying him off the field. This shit is emotional.
ReplyDeleteIT'S GOOD!! VEGAS WINS!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Dave Sims just had a heart attack or something in the booth.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteA UFL highlight package? I work in a TV production class in college, I could have made this package for Versucks.
ReplyDeleteJP Losman is now a championship quarterback.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is what hell must be like.....
Dinner time for me.
ReplyDelete@JFein: Hurry back for the West Virginia-Pittsburgh game. Should be another fun one.
ReplyDeleteI'll be in and out for the rest of the night.
ReplyDeleteAnd just as soon as I come back in, it's time to go back out.
The good game doesn't come on until it's 11 o'clock at night where you are.
ReplyDeleteNo one is missing much if they aren't watching West Virginia-Pittsburgh.
ReplyDelete"Real friends don't let friends eat the way I did yesterday." - Bob Davie
ReplyDelete"Incredibly Divine!" - Mark Jones during his call of the Divine touchdown.
ReplyDeleteI'll be leaving for a big again in a few minutes.
Figures I turn it on 1 minute before the biggest play of the game.
This is a meaningless game for Pitt. They still win the Big East if they beat Cincy next week regardless of a win or a loss in the Backyard Brawl, IIRC.
I'm going to watch the Sharks-Oilers game until the Nevada-Boise State game starts.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go out one more time tonight and that should only be for about 20 minutes or so. Other than, I'll be here for the rest, including Boise and Nevada.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is there a chance that Boise-Nevada eclipses 100 points by the end of the first half?
ReplyDelete@JFein: It's not you. Both teams can score in bunches.
ReplyDeletei think Boise-Nevada will definitely be a 50+ point half....
ReplyDeleteand good lord i hate seeing those inbreds from West by god Virginia happy
way to allow that 3rd down conversion Pitt
ReplyDeleteif anyone's watching basketball Florida leads Michigan State 74-72 with under a minute to go
ReplyDeleteSo Kris, what happened to the Twerps in Maui?
ReplyDelete@Keith
ReplyDeletethe Terps appear to be soft as Charmin...
was not a good start for them
FLA 75, MSU 74 18.5 to go
Florida upsets Michigan State 77-74
ReplyDelete@Kris: Don't feel bad. Look at what happened to Cal in New York.
ReplyDelete@Keith
ReplyDeleteyeah, 2 losses don't eliminate you in CBB
i guess no one's watching but Pitt has tied WVU 16 all
what a scramble by Brown, but it sets up 4th and 1..
ReplyDeletewhat decision? you gotta go for this...
wow that is going to be a close spot
First Down WVU,
ReplyDeleteand it appears Boise returned the opening KO for a TD
Boise State has already scored.
ReplyDeleteWest Virginia going to attempt a game winning Field Goal.
ReplyDeleteWVU going for a 43 yd FG to win
ReplyDeleteIt's good and West Virginia wins!
ReplyDeleteits good...West Virginia wins...
ReplyDeleteIt's raining in Boise State like it is here.
ReplyDeletewell, i hope all of the siblings in WV that are going to celebrate that win by sleeping together enjoy it
ReplyDeletenice fumble return for TD by Boise to start it
ReplyDelete@Keith
ReplyDeletehere's GaryWilliams'1st tweet since Sunday.
"Just got done watching our 3 games from Maui. Everyone better be ready to go tomorrow morning during practice."
i think he's pissed...
i need to get some more beer and vodka and i'll be back for the rest of this game
Touchdown Boise State! 13-0 BSU
ReplyDeleteThey are making this look too easy so far.
Wow.....I just get in, turn on the game, and it's already 13-0 Boise St!
ReplyDelete@KT: Chris Peterson usually goes for 2 a couple times a game.
ReplyDeleteHey! I know some members of that one big happy West Virginia family.
ReplyDelete"I'll start with Titus Pettis, sorry, Austin Pettis." - Heather Cox
ReplyDeleteWow. Boise is back in Nevada territory.
ReplyDeleteBoise State is going to score again.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! Another Boise touchdown!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Boise State!
ReplyDeleteThey are making this look way too easy.
"The Broncos BCS statement is being stamped here tonight." - Joe Tessitore
ReplyDeleteAs inconceivable as it may seem that it is absolutely urgent for a team to score in the 1st quarter........it is completely urgent for Nevada to score on this drive. Boise will score at will this game. Nevada needs to start doing the same pronto.
ReplyDeleteNevada is driving quite effectively on this drive.
ReplyDeleteThe only game tomorrow that is screaming "must watch" is Florida State-Florida.
ReplyDeleteAnd because I will be going to my grandfather's and eating dinner with him, I will miss the end of it.
Kaepernick needs to complete a pass or 2 in order for Nevada to stay in this game. They can't run the ball forever.
ReplyDeleteI think I might be busy as well tomorrow. We will see.......
ReplyDelete@JFein: You haven't watched that many Nevada games like I have. Their running game is like a passing game when it's going full blast. They can easily get right back into this game with their running game.
ReplyDeleteNevada kicks a FG and the score is now 20-3 Boise State.
ReplyDelete4th and 3.......GO FOR IT!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis game will be a shootout. You gotta go big or go home, in my view.
Well they kick it and it's good, but the Nevada defense needs to step up. They can start by forcing a 2nd down.
Boise-Okie St. in the Fiesta Bowl?
ReplyDeleteThen there wouldn't be two Big Ten teams.
ReplyDeleteWow! They got Boise in a 3rd and long! Incredible!
ReplyDeleteEven if Martin is short, Boise will go for it.
ReplyDeleteOoh. They are going to give him a very generous spot on that one.
And Boise was still able to pick up the first down.
ReplyDeleteLet's do Boise State vs. Penn State and leave out Okie. St!
ReplyDeleteActually, let's not do that. Boise would cream Penn State.
Boise State is looking incredible on offense so far.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, they would cream Penn State.
Kings are beating the Nyets by 17 points at halftime. They are really bad.
ReplyDeleteNevada needs a touchdown.
ReplyDeleteThey gotta go for it here!
ReplyDeleteA throw by Nevada? I think that's all they can do though is one of those screen passes.
ReplyDeleteI think they would cream Okie St. as well.
ReplyDeleteIf they end up with TCU or the SEC runner-up, then it would be a closer game.
Sweet! The Cincy-Pitt game is on at Noon ET (9 AM PT) on Saturday. Now I won't have to choose between that or the other big games.
ReplyDelete1st and goal Nevada.
ReplyDeleteTouchdown Nevada on a rare throw.
ReplyDelete27-9 BSU after the extra point is no good.
The Wolfpack finally have a TD.
ReplyDeleteBoise cannot score again in this half in order for Nevada to climb back in it.
Oof. Missed PAT.
That cancels out Boise's missed conversion from earlier.
People in the south are not big Boise State fans.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a lot BCS teams being BSU fans.
ReplyDeleteWow. All of a sudden Nevada may be in this game.
ReplyDelete
