Foul Ball is your daily baseball recap.
The Minnesota-Boston game was postponed.
5 Yankees 3 A's: The Yankees win their first night game in Coors Field, err new Yankee stadium. Andy Pettitte pitched seven innings allowing two runs and nine hits. Shockingly Johnny Damon had the only home run in the game. I guess that new A's offense isn't working the way they would have liked it. Also some more bad news for the A's, their closer is out for the season
3 Pirates 2 Marlins: While the Marlins have been the hottest team to start the new season, the Pittsburgh Pirates somehow have cooled them down. Last year the Pirates had the worst pitching staff in the league, now they lead the league in ERA. Jeff Karstens pitched six innings allowing three hits and one run for Pittsburgh. And Freddy Sanchez homered for the Pirates.
5 Rangers 4 Blue Jays: Both Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz hit two-run home runs for the Rangers both off of ace pitcher Roy Halladay. The game was actually delayed when the home plate umpire took a piece of broken bat off his head.
4 Nationals 3 Braves: The Nationals have a winning streak! So it might be only two games, but the Nationals pitching staff has come up big the last two games. This time the Nationals bullpen pitched three scoreless innings to preserve the win. Adam Dunn also homered for the Nationals in the game.
Worst of the Night:
- The Royals hit into double plays for six straight innings against the Indians. That's the Royals for you.
- The company that mistakenly made the "Natinals" has apologized for the mistake.
- Mets catcher Ramon Castro was called for an error for catcher interference in their loss to St. Louis.
- Brewers pitcher Jorge Julio only got two outs in relief, but gave up 2 hits, 5 runs, and 3 walks against the Phillies.
- Jake Peavy gave up his first grand slam in his career. And to all teams, he gave it up to the Giants.
- The White Sox pitching staff combined gave up 12 hits, 10 runs, 2 home runs, 7 walks, and only 2 strikeouts in their loss to Baltimore.
Video of the Night: An plate umpire last night took a piece of baseball bat right off his head.
