Just a few weeks ago I was complaining about the weak slate of games, especially the Thursday night game. Well this week there's almost too many good games on with a great Thursday night game. Maybe I should complain more. Or uh........look ahead at the schedule. Nah I'll just complain some more. Here's this week's must list.
Thursday, September 18th
Auburn at Kansas State, 7:30 (ESPN: Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, Samantha Ponder) I'm completely surprised Bill Snyder would schedule a game like this. He usually schedules non-conference games against junior colleges. This must have been scheduled while he was gone the first time. As for the game itself, it should be an offensive shootout. Both of these teams can run the ball with ease and they should be able to pass as well. Auburn appears to be the better defensive team but neither of them have played enough games yet to make a judgement on that. Should be a fun game.
Saturday, September 20th
Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech, Noon (ESPN: Dave Pasch, Brian Griese, Tom Luginbill) Remember last week when I said I didn't trust Virginia Tech and it wouldn't surprise me if they lost to a very good ECU team? (pats self on back) I still don't trust them but I like them a little bit more against Georgia Tech at home because the Yellow Jackets really haven't played anyone yet until this point while the Hokies are a little bit more tested.
Iowa at Pittsburgh, Noon (ESPNU: Adam Amin, John Congemi) I only highlight this game because this is the matchup the devil himself would pick to watch. What a miserable mashup of boring offenses and stingy defenses. First team to score in this game wins.
Florida at Alabama, 3:30 (CBS: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Allie Laforce) This game has blowout written all over it. A Florida team on the road for the first time all season after they haven't played anyone in Alabama. The best thing that could happen in this game for Florida is that this is the week that Bloodchamp gets canned.
Utah at Michigan, 3:30 (ABC/ESPN2: Sean McDonough, Chris Spielman, Todd McShay) Yeah I know Michigan was blown out by Notre Dame. Yeah they haven't looked that hot at all this season. But they're at home and I have a hard time picking against them at home. On the other side is Utah who I really don't know if they're good or not. They've looked good against punching bags but let's see them on the road at Michigan before making a call.
Virginia at BYU, 3:30 (ABC: Bob Wischusen, Matt Millen, Quint Kessenich) Speaking of teams I don't know how good they are yet, let's talk about the other Utah school, BYU. The Cougs have crushed teams this year like Texas in Austin but this week is different. Virginia is a very good defensive team having given up only 21 points as their high this year and they should be 3-0 on the year if their offense didn't give up the ball so much against an overrated UCLA team. Classic game between a punishing running attack versus a punishing defense.
North Carolina at ECU, 3:30 (ESPNU: Clay Matvick, Anthony Becht) Speaking of teams that look overrated, UNC plays at ECU this week with the Pirates coming off a victory against Virginia Tech. Maybe I'm crazy for calling a 2nd ECU upset in two weeks but I'm feeling it. UNC doesn't deserve their ranking while ECU should be ranked higher.
Miss State at LSU, 7:00 (ESPN: Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe) Ah the annual tradition of Mississippi State not playing anyone in non-conference, playing a tough SEC team for their opening conference game, and getting crushed. LSU gets the pleasure this year of spanking Miss State right out of the gate.
Oklahoma at West Virginia, 7:30 (Fox: Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, Molly McGrath) Ah you gotta love these all offense and no defense matchups. And when I say no defense, I mean West Virginia. Does that gambler Holgorsen even pay attention to his defense? At least Oklahoma still tries on that side of the ball.
Clemson at Florida State, 8:00 (ABC: Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Heather Cox) I'm beginning to think that Jameis Winston is a bit of a knucklehead. Call it a hunch. But then again if you get off on a rape case and slapped on the wrist for stealing crab legs you'd also think you can get away with anything. Leave it up to the courageous Jimbo Fisher taking his sweat time deciding whether or not Winston is going to play this week. Yeah think real long and hard Fisher maybe even take this decision into next week because after all you are playing against Clemson this week................If I've learned anything these past two weeks its that football people are cowards when it comes to violence against women or children.
Miami at Nebraska, 8:00 (ESPN2: Joe Tessitore, Brock Huard, Shannon Spake) Yeah Miami hasn't looked this year and they're on the road. I'm still calling for the upset in this game. Look at who is calling the action and look at who they are playing. I'm ready for some Joe Tessitore crazy game action.
Recipe of the Week, Baked Lemon Chicken with Mushroom sauce: Confession, I've been trying to eat healthier and one way to eat healthier I've been told is to eat chicken with lemon sauce. This is one of the recipes I'm going to try while on the healthier path this week.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Imperial Pumpkin Ale: Then I'm going to wash it all down with an unhealthy, fatty, full of sugar beer called Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Sorry but I love pumpkin ales. I love the pumpkin spice, I love how that spice warms my tummy, I love the taste, I love everything about pumpkin ales. If that makes me a hipster douche then I don't care.
