Foul Ball: Barry Zito?!?!

San Francisco 7, Colorado 0: Barry Zito out of all people threw a complete game shutout yesterday. Even more impressive about yesterday's game was that Zito didn't allow a walk even though Derryl Cousins had a strike zone the size of a penny. Pablo Sandoval homered and Brandon Crawford drove in three runs on a double.

Aubrey Huff Quote Fail: Oh Aubrey, via AP recap''I couldn't be happier for Barry,'' said Giants cleanup hitter Aubrey Huff. ''It's no secret he gets buried by the fans, the media and all. To see him go out there and put up a complete-game shutout in Colorado, all the haters out there - that's for them.'' Yes we're all haters and buried Zito for no reason. He hasn't sucked at all

Seattle 5, Texas 11: Yu Darvish made his debut and sucked in the first inning giving up four runs. Thankfully for Darvish he was playing the Mariners who promptly gave up the lead by the fifth inning just good enough to give Darvish his first career MLB win. Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, Mitch Moreland, and Nelson Cruz all homered for the Rangers.

Mariners Stat Fail: Only the Mariners, via the ESPN Stats & Info blog: "Darvish was the first pitcher in more than 100 years to win his major-league debut in a start in which he allowed four or more runs in the first inning." At least the Mariners made history yesterday.

Florida Miami 6, Philadelphia 2: The Phillies offense so far has Cained the shit out of their pitchers so far this year and yesterday was no different. Omar Infante homered twice yesterday to go along with a Austin Kearns home run. The only person who drove in a run for the Phillies was something called Freddy Galvis.

Ozzie Guillen quote fail: Ozzie is in a world of pain after this quote to Time magazine: "I love Fidel Castro," Guillen was quoted as saying. "I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that mother****** is still here." What amazes me about that Ozzie quote is this is the same person who gets angry at Sean Penn for supporting Hugo Chavez. How did he expect the Cuban population to react to this quote even if he's just saying that he's impressed with Castro longevity.

Anaheim 5, Minnesota 1: This is going to be one long season in Twinkie land. The Twins have played four games so far and have only scored 6 runs. Yesterday alone the Twins stranded 6 runners. Their offense so far is beyond pathetic and it doesn't look like it will improve.

Washington 3, New York 4: Look at for the Mets. The Queens Bombers are 4-0 on the year and came back from a 3 run deficit on Monday night. The Mets tied the game when something called Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Daniel Murphy hit the game-winning hit in the ninth inning to give the Mets the victory.

Boston 4, Toronto 2: Boston is finally in the win column as well. Boston came back from a two-run deficit and broke the Blue Jays hearts by scoring three runs in the ninth innings. The Blue Jays new "closer" Sergio Santos has now blown two saves in the young season.

St. Louis 7, Cincinnati 1: Hell of a debut for Homer Bailey. He gave up three home runs in the first inning, four runs in total. Bailey would last another 4 innings after that because Dusty will never take out a pitcher no matter the circumstance. Freese, Holiday, and Molina were the ones who victimized Bailey in the first inning. Jake Westbrook picked up the victory for the Cards.

New York 6, Baltimore 2: The Yankees finally won a game and sent the Orioles back to earth. The worst part for the Orioles is that the Yankees jabbed them to death scoring runs on singles, doubles, and one home run. Ivan Nova gave up 10 hits but the Orioles could only score two runs on solo home runs.

Kansas City 0, Oakland 1: Someone named Tommy Milone gave up only three hits, zero runs, and three walks in eight shutout innings for the A's last night. The Royals helped Milone by giving away an innings worth of outs on the base paths.

  1. It seems like Zito always sucks you in and then by mid-season kicks you in the nuts. I'm not falling for it this time.
