We're into conference play and the games look great this week. We actually have two solid games in each of the big three time-slots which is a first for this season. Also CBS is going with a rare triple-header on Saturday starting at Noon. Should be a fun week of college football so here's this week's must list.
Thursday, September 29th
South Florida at Pitt, 8:00 (ESPN: Rece Davis, Craig James, Jesse Palmer, Jenn Brown): Another Thursday with a lame game featuring Craig James on commentary. The Big East should implode just for agreeing with these terrible Thursday night ESPN games. Hopefully when Pitt moves to the ACC, we never them play again on Thursday night.
Saturday, October 1st
Air Force at Navy, Noon (CBS: Ian Eagle, Randy Cross, Lewis Johnson): I've always enjoyed watching Navy play. They run that triple-option so smoothly that it's fun to watch them. And it's especially fun watching Navy match up against the Air Force to see who runs the triple-option better. Sorry but I cannot hold my excitement for this game.
Texas A&M vs Arkansas, Noon (ESPN: Dave Pasch, Chris Spielman, Urban Meyer, Shelley Smith): Both teams are coming off disheartening losses last Saturday. It will be interesting to see though how Texas A&M responds after blowing that lead against OK State last week. TAMU could still reach a BCS game, but they can't lose another game. This game will also be a preview of what's coming for TAMU when they move to the SEC next season.
Mississippi State at Georgia, Noon (SEC Network: Bob Rathbun, Tim Couch, Kristina Akra): This game intrigues me because both teams have been disappointments so far this season. Miss State has been the bigger disappointment to me because after watching their opening game against Memphis, I thought they were going to be really good this year. Then they lost their first two SEC games. As for Georgia they need a win for Mark Richt's case.
Nevada at Boise State, 2:30 (VS: Paul Burmeister, Shaun King, Anthony Herron): We all know what happened when these two teams played last time. Kyle Brotzman missed a field goal, Nevada upset the Broncos, and Boise State finished the season with one loss on their record. Nevada is nowhere near as good as they were last season so this game should be a Boise State rout.
Auburn at South Carolina, 3:30 (CBS: Spero Dedes, Steve Beuerlein, Otis Livingston): I'm salivating thinking about Spurrier running up the score on Chizik and Auburn. Can't you just imagine South Carolina up by 14 with a minute left in the game and Spurrier calling a flea-flicker to rub it in Chizik's face? Oh yes, you can.
Michigan State at Ohio State, 3:30 (ABC: Sean McDonough, Matt Millen, Heather Cox): These two teams along with Wisconsin split the Big Ten last year. Michigan State never played Ohio State last season so this year Michigan State and Ohio State play for the retroactive Big Ten split for the 2010 season. (Do not watch this game.)
Baylor at Kansas State, 3:30 (ABC: Bob Wischusen, Bob Davie): Who knew the first October weekend of 2011, Kansas State vs Baylor would be a must watch game? Both teams are undefeated and both teams are actually fun to watch on offense. Kansas State can run the ball right up teams throats. Robert Griffin III is Mr. Everything for Baylor at Quarterback. This should be a great game. Too bad Footbaw Bob is calling the game.
Clemson at Virginia Tech, 6:00 (ESPN2: Mark Jones, Ed Cunningham, Quint Kessenich): For the past two weeks everyone expected Clemson to lose. they didn't. Partially because they played at home. Well now Clemson goes to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech and I expect Clemson to lose. Will they though will be the answer.
Washington at Utah, 7:00 (FSN: Ron Thulin, JC Pearson, Jeremy Bloom): Utah plays their first Pac-12 home game against an underrated Washington team. Washington has a great offense that proved against Nebraska that they can score on anyone. Will Utah be able to stop Keith Price and the Washington offense? Will the Utah offense be able to keep up with the Washington offense? Should be a great game from an offensive standpoint.
Alabama at Florida, 8:00 (CBS: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson): Under the lights in the Swamp with Uncle Verne commenting on the game. It also doesn't hurt that both of these teams are undefeated and that both coaches know each other really well. Trent Richardson vs Chris Rainey. It's going to be glorious.
Nebraska at Wisconsin, 8:00 (ABC: Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit, Erin Andrews): Nebraska's first Big Ten game is a tough one. Nebraska travels to Madison to play a very good Wisconsin team. Wisconsin's offense has looked really good this year while Nebraska's defense has looked mediocre. Will this trend keep up?
Recipe of the Week, Mighty Matt's Kick-Butt Chili: According to recipes.com, this is a tailgate recipe and it looks delicious. Ground beef combined with pinto beans, cheese, and spices. I'm frothing from the mouth just thinking about this chili.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Cherry Chocolate Stout: From Stone Brewery in Southern California comes this delicious Cherry Chocolate Stout. I tasted this beer the other day during lunch and it was great. It's very smooth for a stout and the cherry-chocolate combination is better than I could have ever imagined.
Those CBS night games are usually pretty special.
ReplyDeleteI will be attending one of your "must" games in person. The Huskies should be a pretty good test for the Utes defense, as the deity that is Jake Heaps clearly wasn't two weeks ago. But for us anyway, this is a perfect dry run for next weekend's game against Arizona State. They look scary good
ReplyDeleteWashington's offense is really good. Keith Price is a poor man's Cam Newton. Should be a great game in SLC.
