This week's slate of games is a whole lot deeper than the crap we had to watch last weekend. LSU at Miss State starts the week off which should be a great game. Boise State travels to Toledo for one of those weird games. Uncle Vern and Gary return to our TV screens. The two ineligibles will play this week. And then we cap the night off with Oklahoma at Florida State. Should be a great week of college football.
Announcing Schedule
September 15th
LSU at Miss State, 8:00 (ESPN: Rece Davis, Craig James, Jesse Palmer, Jenn Brown): Last week I thought Miss State would beat Auburn. It didn't happen. So I'm not picking Miss State this week because I don't want to look bad. Now after saying all of that, I do think this will be a weird game. Les Miles is involved, it will be a night game on ESPN, weirdness is going to happen. Weirdness is the only thing that can happen with Les Miles on national TV.
September 16th
Boise State at Toledo, 8:00 (ESPN: Joe Tessitore, Rod Gilmore, Jeannie Edwards): These Friday night games are always weird. Boise State lost to Nevada on a Friday night. Toledo solidified Dan Hawkins firing at Colorado with a victory on a Friday night. I'm not saying Boise State is going to lose, but I would keep a close eye on this game.
September 17th
Auburn at Clemson, Noon (ABC: Dave Pasch, Chris Spielman, Urban Meyer, Quint Kessenich): Will this finally be the game Auburn loses? Will this finally be the big game Clemson wins? Will this finally be the game that gets Dabo Sweeney fired? I don't think this will be an exciting game, but it's a game I would keep an eye on. Both teams played a close game last year and this game should be close as well.
Pittsburgh at Iowa, Noon (ESPN2: Beth Mowins, Mike Bellotti): A good chance to see what Todd Graham looks like as the Pitt coach. Also a chance to see if Iowa responds from their 3 OT loss from Iowa State last week. Translation: If you're watching Pitt at Iowa, then maybe it's a good time to cook food.
West Virginia at Maryland, Noon (ESPNU: Rob Stone, Danny Kanell): I can't wait to see Randy Edsall shit himself when he see's the Air Raid offense. It's going to be glorious. It's going to be outstanding. It's going to be Holgoawesome.
Michigan State at Notre Dame, 3:30 (NBC: Tom Hammond, Mike Mayock, Alex Flanagan): I would normally say skip this game. Notre Dame is 0-2 and going nowhere. Notre Dame versus Michigan State games though are usually weird and the endings of the games are must see. Remember the huge comeback Notre Dame had against the John L. Smith Spartans? Remember Sparty beating the Irish with the trick play last year? So yeah, keep an eye on this one.
Tennessee at Florida, 3:30 (CBS: Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson): I'm only watching this game for the return of Verne. I am not looking forward to Danielson though shilling for the SEC but I'll tolerate it.
Washington at Nebraska, 3:30 (ABC: Sean McDonough, Matt Millen, Heather Cox): Washington is better than last year so this game should be better than last year's drubbing. That's all I can really say about this game.
Texas at UCLA, 3:30 (ABC: Bob Wischusen, Bob Davie, Samantha Steele): Last year UCLA was a bad team. Last year UCLA drubbed an even worse Texas team. In previous years UCLA has drubbed Texas. Will it happen again? I think since everyone is expecting UCLA to beat Texas the Longhorns will probably beat UCLA.
Navy at South Carolina, 6:00 (ESPN2: Mike Patrick, Craig James, Jeannine Edwards): I want to watch this game just to see how frustrated Spurrier gets watching the Navy offense hold onto the ball 5 to 7 minutes a time. That being said, South Carolina will probably destroy the Midshipmen.
Ohio State at Miami, 7:30 (ESPN: Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe): Has it been decided yet what to officially call this game? Can I just go with the Ineligible Bowl? One thing is sure about this game, it will be a train wreck. Jacory Harris will start for Miami and Like a Baus will start for Ohio State. Arm punts will be available to everybody.
Oklahoma at Florida State, 8:00 (ABC: Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit, Erin Andrews, Tom Rinaldi): This game feels like it can only go one way. Either a Oklahoma blowout or another Bob Stoops big game letdown. It really can't go one way or the other. This also leads to me to another tangent, this year's college football season is going to be weird. Oklahoma is ranked number 1 right now, but they don't feel like a clear cut favorite. Then you look at the rest of the rankings and you can poke holes in all the teams ranked in the top 10. What I'm trying to say is, this season will probably be a lot like the 07 season when there was two two-loss teams playing for the national championship.
Utah at BYU, 9:15 (ESPN2: Mark Jones, Ed Cunningham, Jessica Mendoza): Rivalry games are always must see games for me personally. Especially a rivalry game called the "Holy War". I like BYU in this game because they've played tougher competition up to this point and are the home field team.
Stanford at Arizona, 10:45 (ESPN: Carter Blackburn, Brock Huard, Shelley Smith): I'm watching this game for one reason only. To see Shelley Smith in 90 degree Tucson. It will be like the Sistine chapel of sideline reporters on Saturday night.
Recipe of the Week, Mustard and Peppercorn Crusted Rib-eye: This week's recipe comes courtesy from James Craven. This recipe is a Paula Dean special and it sounds delicious. I love rib-eye's but I'll usually eat them with BBQ sauce. I've never thought about adding mustard and ground black pepper to the meal. And by reading the instructions there isn't many ingredients for this meal and it isn't hard to cook.
Bonus Recipe of the Week, Crab Quesadilla: Another recipe courtesy from James Craven. Now admittedly I love seafood. I however don't care for crab or any other crustacean. If crab is your thing though I would seriously try this recipe.
Alcoholic Beverage of the Week, Session Lager: This week's alcoholic beverage of the week continues to be beer until the weather changes. This week's beer is Session Lager from Full Sail Brewery. Out of all the beers, Lager's are my favorite and this beer is one of the best. Plus there's a gimmick to this beer since it comes in a 11 OZ bottle that looks like the Red Stripe bottles.
Now watch Miss State win tonight.
ReplyDeleteNo love for Penn State and Temple? Sure, it's got Ray Bentley on the mic, but Penn State is still going with the dreaded 2 QB system that I hate and Temple may be better now than they ever were under Al Golden. Temple can win on Saturday. And I would not be shocked in the least.
ReplyDeleteI just have no interest in watching Penn State.
ReplyDeleteThe Maryland/WVU game got a lot less interesting with the suspensions for 2 of the Terps senior WR's.
