The Must List: Recipes & Beverages

For two years now I've done a weekly preview of the must watch games in college football. And that will continue for this year as well.

As you may have also noticed, I haven't previewed the upcoming college football season like normal. My excuse is I'm not in school anymore so basically the only chance I get to sit down and post something is when I'm off work or I have a break. My other excuse is because of work, I'm way behind doing my homework on the college football season. I haven't read any previews or really went over which teams will be good or bad this season. Even with Cal I've been behind on the upkeep. So it would be pretty foolish of me to write previews on a season that I really know nothing about.

That however won't stop me from previewing the beverages and food recipes you should try during the college football season. As a part of the Must List, I always include a recipe and beverage of the week. Since I never go out on those Saturday's, I like to cook from home. I also like to pair beverages with my meal. Usually I'll drink a beer but sometimes I'll drink an hard alcohol with the meal. So without further ado, here's some recipes and beverage choices to try out during the season.

Recipes:

Barbequed Ribs: I feel like I can't start off the recipe list without a few items for the grill. After all we still have about another month left in summer which is the perfect time to grill. What I love about this barbequed ribs recipe is the garlic. I could add garlic to almost anything and adding garlic to ribs is something I'm going to have to do.

Grilled Salmon: Admittedly I love fish. I especially love salmon. The pink meat of salmon is right on the top of my fish choices along with Halibut. Now I would prefer my salmon smoked, but that takes way too long to cook. You want something right away. Grill the salmon. The ingredients are simple and it takes no longer than twenty minutes to cook.

Amy's Sensational Summer Salad: I choose this recipe because it sounds like something my dad would eat. It's a salad recipe with ingredients like diced apples and strawberries with boneless chicken to top everything off.

Fried Apple Pie: Moving away from summer and healthy foods we go to our first holiday of the fall, Halloween. Now I like fried food. I know it's not healthy for me, but I still like it. So my fried food choice is actually a desert. Instead of eating an old and tired apple pie, fry that puppy.

Turkey Pumpkin Enchiladas: This is quite the combo. Turkey and pumpkin puree inside a wheat tortilla. I don't know if I would like this combination, but I'm sure there is someone who would like this.

Beverages:

Canadian Mist: I've talked about my love Crown Royal multiple times. If you need a cheap alternate to Crown Royal though, drink Canadian Mist. I like to mix my Canadian whiskeys with a soda. I will usually go with a Pepsi/Coke, but everyone once in a while I'll mix the whiskey with Squirt or Mountain Dew.

Pliny The Elder: I have to start off the beverage list with a local beer which is Pliny The Elder from Russian River Brewery. This is an IPA with an orange taste that is absolutely delicious.

Alpine Ale: I have to go with another local beer here. I'm not normally a fan of ale beers. They're too bitter for me. Alpine Ale though is a delicious orange flavored beer with a sweet smelling aroma. So if you're going to drink an ale, try Alpine Ale.

1792: Move away from beers and onto a Bourbon. Now I'm not a bourbon drinker, they taste rot gut to me for whatever reason. 1792 though is a bourbon I would recommend. It's the smoothest tasting bourbon I've had.

A Walk on the Moon:  I love the drink mixer site because they have every type of mix drink you can think of. Example, A Walk on the Moon which is a mixture of blackberry schnapps, vodka, cola, and milk. So basically it's kind of like a White Russian. I might have to try a walk on the moon at the Cantina the next time I'm there.

Fantasia: I blame my parents for getting me hooked on wine, specifically Fantasia. Fantasia is a desert wine from Napa Valley which is the best tasting wine I've ever had. I can drink a whole bottle by myself it's that good. Taking after my dad, I like Fantasia mixed with frozen fruit. It's like a smoothie.

If you have a recipe or beverage for me to share on a Must List, e-mail me at 49er16@gmail.com. The real must list will be posted next Thursday and the rest of the Thursdays until the beginning of 2012. Enjoy the season folks!
