Last night's NBA draft wasn't overly exciting. The only major trade that happened involved my Kings along with Milwaukee and Charlotte. Milwaukee sent John Salmons (To say Kings fans are pissed at the return of Salmons would be a huge understatement) and selected Jimmer Fredette for Sacramento. Yes. The Jimmer is coming to Sacramento!
I'm guessing the thought of this draft pick for the Kings is that Jimmer will play the point and Tyreke Evans will shift to shooting guard, a more natural position for him. The thought of fans though is this, "Is this just a pick to get people inside the arena?" I think it's a little of both. The Kings wouldn't have added John Salmons ridiculous contract just to pick Jimmer.
I still don't know what to make of this pick. The Kings needed a point guard, but is Jimmer the right fit? Evans is already a chucker. Salmons is a proven chucker who was originally traded from the Kings because he shot too much. And Jimmer was a chucker in college. Does Jimmer change? Does Jimmer become more of a ball handler and passer with the Kings? And what happens if Jimmer doesn't become more of a passer?
That's what is worrying Kings fans so much about this pick. The Jimmer selection would have been fine if the Kings didn't have to bring Salmons with him.
Like all other Kings fans, I'm going to debate who will shoot and who will pass on this team until the NBA returns. Whenever that will be.
The Salmons deal pisses me off. It screams of "We have money and can't attract free agents to our team, so let's trade for someone who has a lot of money left on their contract!"
