Rangers 7, Oakland 4, Called after 4 Innings: The Rangers offense has struggled all year. So of course the day when Mitch Moreland hits a grand slam and the Rangers score 7 runs by the fourth inning, the game is called because of rain and the runs are erased and the game will be made up. What's the old saying? If they didn't have bad luck, they wouldn't have luck at all.
Milwaukee 6, San Diego 13: The Padres squandered a five run lead in this game only to explode for 8 runs in the eighth inning. Ryan Ludwick homered and drove in three runs. Jason Bartlett and Cameron Maybin each drove in a pair of runs as eight different Padres had RBIs on the day.
Minnesota 7, Detroit 9: On a day when the Twins actually score more than a couple of runs, their bullpen can't hold the lead. The Tigers scored two runs in the eighth inning to tie the game and then in the ninth Brandon Inge knocked in the winning run for the Tigers off a triple. The Tigers have now won five in a row and sit at 2nd place in the AL Central.
Toronto 9, Boston 3: Let's a take a quick look at John Lackey's numbers this year. His record is 2-5, ERA 7.16, WHIP 1.74, BABIP 3.36, K/9 4.96, BB/9 2.74, HR/9 1.10. If you can't tell, those numbers suck. Especially when you see that Lackey has given up a home run per game and gives up as many walks compared to how many batters he strikes out. Don't worry though Red Sox fans, you are only stuck with Lackey for another five years.Yunel Escobar turned a great double play in this game.
Atlanta 3, Washington 7, 11 Innings: The Braves gave up the game-tying hit to Alex Cora? Alex freaking Cora? Craig Kimbrel in fact did give up the game-tying hit to Alex Cora in the ninth inning for the Braves-Natinals game. The Nationals would break through in the eleventh inning with a Ian Desmond RBI double and a Jayson Werth two-run home run.
New York 3, Kansas City 4, 11 Innings: The numbers from this game certainly got the stat geeks like Joe Po in a lather. The Yankees and Royals combined for 16 hits, 19 walks, and 27 men were left on base. Credit to the Royals pitching staff who held down the fort because the Royals hitters only managed four hits on the game. Highly touted prospect Eric Hosmer hit his first career home run in the eleventh inning to give the Royals the victory.
Chicago 11, St. Louis 4: Matt Garza picked up his first victory at Wrigley, the Cubs knocked in a season high 11 runs to go along with a season high 17 hits. Starlin Castro had four hits on the day along with three RBIs. Besides Castro, three other Cubs players had more than two RBIs on the night. Matt Garza went five innings giving up one run and three hits to pick up the victory.
Anaheim 4, Chicago 6, 10 Innings: Jake Peavy made his return to the pitching mound after rehabbing an injury for ten months. Peavy gave up seven hits and four runs in six innings of work, but Juan Pierre failed in the field once that should have been an error but wasn't called. The White Sox would rally to score two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and then would score two runs in the tenth to beat the Angels. Paul Konerko made a spectacular play to end the game.
San Francisco 4, Arizona 3: How the Giants won this game, I'll never know. The Giants were down 3-0 before Aaron Rowand and Miguel Tejada out of all people knocked in two runs in the fourth. Aubrey Huff tied the game in the fifth with a home run and Andres Torres hit a ground rule double to drive in the winning run. Jonathon Sanchez had another up and down game, but pitched well enough to pick up the victory.
Create a Caption: Rowand in the fetal position is a common sight in San Francisco.
Video of the Day: I don't play many video games, but this game looks intriguing.
Giants baseball is becoming torture again.
